True, I am just trying to figure out, how to make more story out of my regiment. Large writing isn't my strong suit which is why I like doing things like this to help me grow in that aspect. A problem I run into is needing inspiration. I am continuing against Hive Cogger, but later I am thinking of shifting around to trying to tackle something else. I am trying to develop a strategy for the regiment as a whole then how my colonel would go about it.
Maybe something about that dragon since I brought Wyrms??? hmm..

This.
Imperial armies are somewhat limited, having a pre-set goal and pre-set allies, compared to the Xenos and Chaos. But as the campaign progresses, you'll forge your own plans, your own story, your own identity.
In the last Crusade, this happened pretty well, with each character being fleshed out and essential to the unfolding narrative. All it took were a few key moments to create the skeleton of a story arc, and it sprang to life from that.
Just meander along, and see where the story takes you.

Also this. Alternatively, it can help storywise to have an actual objective in mind to fill the gaps and provide your forces with some motivation

This is what I mean for me.
I just had an idea. Since they are a Forgeworld Expedition escort. Have the Magos of the expedition be a Magos Biologis and ws in search of genetic material to improve the STC of vat grown wyrms. And this planet is rumored to have something similar to wyrms in their legends?

This is what I mean for me.
Also never underestimate the characters interaction. The whole way that happened in last made story lines on ots own. We had the whole coupes crusade, the bro templers and ultras, various allies and trechery.
All good fun.

Apart from securing Crion my guys are trying to track down some breeds that are native to crion, it is a subplot that i try and implement from time to time. Overall alot of thinking goes into my guys more so then the writing itself. I have a general idea of what I want to happen to my characters its just a matter of getting there or waiting for an opportunity to come along so my character can change in such a way that i wanted him to from the beginning.

I understand this. This is what I try to do with my guys especially when I am bored and waiting for flow to continue. (Yea I am a bit hyper). Anyways, this time I did it backwards because I already had a unit in the ready. So now I am thinking and developing on the fly.
Edit as a funny side not, I was told on another thread my regiments are way too small and should have more like over 100,000 soldiers each lol.

Im kind of doing it on the fly as in I will get an idea one day and try and implement it into my vague plan, seems to have worked so far. As regard to the numbers thing I just have as much troops as the story requires.

Regarding that thread in question - adding extra guys isn't necessary. There are as many men as the plot requires, on all sides. We don't need to specify how many men, as long as we work in percentile losses. No need for millions of men when there isn't a need for them. Extra numbers won't improve your rolls. Extra forces will.

Okay, fort making piece is now under construction. Adopted Son of the Emperor
Flailing on the beach like a beached whale. While also wearing fashionable panties.

[Redacted by Ordo Heretius for heretical substance]

TheEyeOfNight I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes.
Tactical_Spam Vanden clearly loves making sweet sweet love to his school. He is the most passionate, learning oriented individual you will ever meet.
War Kitten You should ask nicely before hitting people with your stick Vanden. We're a polite society after all.
2BlackJack1 Snow is great though. Snowmen, snowball fights, frostbite, snow forts, what's not to love?
Kharne the Befriender It's just the smug look of eternal irony while you wait for Creed to pull out his Baneblade so you can steal it.
War Kitten I love how this has gone from a deathly serious war to a discussion about how Vanden is secretly a whale wearing panties. Welcome to the Crusade of Fury.
Irishpeacockz Well this crusade will be endless then as I imagine Vandan has a large collection of inflatables lying around

That's not all. I also have a clever trap that involves a garden grooming instrument and Kharne's face....

TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum
