Isn't there some upgrade or ability that lets you pass target locks? Could be an interesting combo. Maybe I am just imaging things.

Problem is, Advanced Scanners is restricted to bombers, K-wings, and Punishers. That abilities on a Shuttle.

One of the shuttles can. But it can take the title card and target lock at any range already, without the range 1-2 penalty of LRS. Not that you could take LRS on the shuttle anyway.

What about on a K-Wing with advanced SLAM? You could do a three speed move, SLAM, and target lock. That should take you beyond range two

LRS is a modification so no advanced SLAM. And advanced SLAM is so effective on a k-wing that you'd never even consider other modifications.

Fun bit of trivia: Tomax Bren is the first unique pilot to cost less than a pilot with a lower pilot skill in the same ship.

Just thought I'd point that out.

What would be neat is if the ship with LRS could pass on its target locks.

I'd say too pricey, but you never know until you try it.
I'd like Jonus, Tie Shuttle, Tactician with a pair of Defenders with tractor beams and the double-shot title.

What is the point of a Tie Shuttle? I really don't see what role it fills.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

Cheap crew carrier. For example, a PS 2 with a tactician is 18 points. That's just ridiculously cheap stress control.

In any case, this thread is about the new expansion. Feel free to carry on talking about pre-Veterans Bomber and Defender in the other thread.

It seems I did, didn't I?

I'm actually more stoked for this than for anything in Wave 8 to be honest (not counting the FA single-packs because they're more like 7.5) and this (well, this and a 50% off sale) convinced me to finally pick up a TIE Bomber expansion. That Bomber and the Defender from Veterans will be getting the First Order paint job!

Long-range scanners: garbage. Helps your alpha strike on paper, but you're openly telling your opponent who the target is going to be and giving them a chance to move that ship out of danger. And since you lose the ability to get target locks at close range you're crippling your ability to deliver the second shot. I just can't see how that's going to be an acceptable price to pay, especially when alpha strike lists are already pretty weak.

Epic all the way. Now bombers can lock onto an enemy Epic ship without being in range of it's big guns, and then rush in to release their ordnance, without needing to use the Imperial shuttle pilot like required so far.

Possibly, and I guess this might also help with the fact that epic ships move after all other ships have moved (and attempted to target lock). But, on the other hand, are bombers really worth it compared to bringing an epic ship of your own? A turbolaser gunship (possible now that a lot of the energy problems have been fixed) will kill an enemy epic ship by the time those bombers are able to fire, and won't cost all that much more than a proper bomber group. But either way it's pretty disappointing for normal games.
