This seems to happen fortnightly on this site. Why on earth is GW's website so good at kicking you into the wrong region?

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Or conversely it feeds on the momentary hope when it boot an Aussie into the UK or US site for an army they don't play but are thinking about.
He could also be looking at Mont'Ka or Kauyon, given that they're 125 each over here, that'd put them at around 80 or so US wouldn't it?

A dollar sign is still a dollar sign, regardless of whether its US or Australian dollars. The Necron codex is $49.50 US and $83 Australian

Yeah, even in the UK the codex price is way too high, especially the new ones like the Space Marine and Dark Angels one. The print and finished quality is undoubtedly superb so no complaints there, but seriously, around 30 UK pounds for a book?!!!
Fair enough if some people have no problem paying over the odds for a fancy pants hardback glossy book, but a lot of us would just settle for a cheap paperback, a codex in a similar format to the small rulebook you can get in the Dark Vengeance set and a fraction of the price of the hardback ones.

I remember too OP. When I first started WHFB my Skaven army book was £12. When it was updated the price had increased to £15 and my Guard codex was the same. I didnt mind paying that much for the book as it was not too extravagant.
Now they cost around £30+
No way in hell am I paying that when I can just download them for free.

I really wish GW would accept that codexes and the BRB should be loss leaders to get more people starting new armies and the game in general. Even if your looking at it from a "collectable" standpoint, people are going to be more willing to buy, build, and paint up a model if they like the fluff behind it. Trying to get started in the game is a nightmare with you needing to drop roughly $140 US on rules for a single army codex and game rule book. That's 140 before you even began to buy models.

Back in 3rd, I collected all the codexes. They were reasonably priced back then. These days I’ve got armies on the shelf that just get to collect dust due to the cost of rules. Old RT era BA and IG forces, about 50 of each. But I’m irritated enough keeping up with the basic SM codex, and recently back into Eldar. If the rules were free/reasonably priced, there are kits for the old armies I’d grab and keep them updated and viable. But as it is, I’m limiting myself to how many armies I’m keeping active. I spend far too much on rules as it is.

I don't like the price increases but I will say that GW has increased the production values. Is it enough in my opinion, not really, but unlike the price hikes on existing models, atleast they put a bit of effort to justify it.
That said I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. Back in 5th when codexs were only 30 or so a piece, I slowly collected them all cause that wasn't a bad. Now at almost double I own a space marine codex since i wanted a physical copy and i pirated the rest. It's too much money.

In France - and I guess it's the same for other non english speaking countries - codexes are like half translated, sentences are a mix of french with english words here and there, wich makes the reading uncomfortable.

"Because we couldn't be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We've all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we've all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher's Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to the heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn't behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

This would be beautiful. I shouldn't have to pay for these recent MS Paint pages that fill the codex, or the same dull lore since 3rd Edition. A simple, streamlined codex system of just rules would be a huge gesture from GW. Which is why it is a pipe dream...

Indeed. It would have made the Knights Codex a hell of a lot less of a kick to the teeth, especially how fast they released the second one after the first despite it being barely a few pages of rules.
But that would imply that GW actually cared about it's rules. Or it's customers. And we all know the day that happens is when Khorne and Tzeentch both kiss Nurgle's pimply rump.

I feel their pain. In all honesty I am not advising torrenting but a good torrent is free and only a google search away....
On a side note I have become a form of codex dealer at my local club. A very pro GW club. That should give a rough idea of just how bad things have become.

The two year cycle on the last SM and Eldar codex really gets me. (Core rules as well) When I was paying stupid prices, I could at least console myself with the fact that it should last me 4-5 years. I don’t have a problem spending cash on minis. Minis last I’m still using RT era minis, it’s not like they go stale or moldy. They are an investment that continues to reap benefits on the table. But I’ve got a whole shelf full of books that are only relevant for historical reference. Which, admittedly, I do a fair bit of. But I’d rather be painting minis with that money.

Getting everyone updated in a reasonable timeframe is a good thing. Playing with last edition’s codex is never a good thing. I think there is a happy medium somewhere though. And I agree on the FAQs. If GW wants to sell me rules as often as they do, please at least make sure they work. GW has high quality minis, and good customer service if there is a problem there. The rules side of the fence is abysmal though.
I don’t regret a penny I spend on minis, but most of the cash I spend on rules. The two year cycle is taking a toll on my will to stay active in 40k.
