I was wondering how many points (min with no upgrades and max with all upgrades) was in the tau retaliation cadre box.

edit: I wasn't sure if you could list a model's specific point cost, which is why I asked about the whole box.

Tau are too modular to meaningfully answer that.

Technically a minimum points value would have no weapons on four of the suits, and none of the drones in the kit used.

Meanwhile, maximum would have a ton of utterly random wargear assigned just to cost more.

Very valid. Alright, would it be too much to ask for the point value of the standard equipment on the models for how a list made up of the retaliation cadre would be point-wise?

OK... but what is standard equipment on a Battlesuit? You pay X points for a bare model, and then you can add up to 3 Support Systems to it. So what do you add? Flamers? A Missile Pod? Plasma Rifle? Fusion gun? Burst Cannon? An Invulnerable save? Skyfire? Interceptor? Split Fire? Do you give them all the Bonding Knife ritual? What about drones? Do you give them drones? If you do, which one? Marker Light? Gun? Missile? Shield? Do you upgrade a suit to Shas'Vre and buy a Drone Controller?

The Broadside suit is just as bad. Do you go with a Railgun, or Missile Pod? What about it's systems?

Then you have a Commander. who has even MORE choices then a regular Battlesuit. And here is probably the most difficult choice of all: Buffmander or shooty Commander?

Finally, we come to the Riptide... who again has a ton of choices.

Looking at that box set, I can say it's probably around 500 points on the cheap side, and over 1000 points on the high side. You can equip these guys just about anyway you want- there really isn't a "One Build Fits All" approach to Tau. You'll want some Battlesuits with Flammers, and some with Plasma, and some with Fusion, and you'll have to decide which way your Commander is going to go- total Buffmander or Combat Commander. Going a little bit of both will pretty much doom him to failure. The Broadside/Riptide are the same way. Anti-Armor? Anti-Infantry? Which one?

Haha, at a price of $165 each I bought all I could. I had to quit the hobby due to financial troubles, but I weathered the storm and am rewarding myself with buying back some of the things I lost. I had played SM and Guard, simply because I started with SM when I was 5 and I got guard in a trade, but I've always wanted to play tau. So I decided to get tau, and again, since I could get them for $165 a box, I bought three!

Where did you get them for $165 per box? That could be a great boon to my own Battlesuit swarm.

All sold out, he only had eight in total and when I was done, he only had two left. They are gone now. Was an ebayer with like 10,000 positive feedback.

With mobile, deep striking broadsides, I would consider taking the Plasma Rifles on them. Their primary role is heavy fire support, so the raised strength and AP is pretty handy once you can actually expect them to be in range.

If all of the crisis suits and commander have 2x 15 point weapons (which is most of them) and all other wargear is left standard (so no drones, EWO, signature systems, etc.) then you've got 516 pts per box.

Damn. Oh well. I'll have to go with $199.

Huh. I suppose I counted the Riptide's points value incorrectly.

My Retalliation Cadre with the following .. obviously I left out my upgrades, but that is about the cost. It would be easy to make 1000 points by downgrading some upgrades.
