If you were designing a TAC list, and you were forced to take a single Land Raider (points not being relevant), which one would you take? Let's leave the Heresy-era tech out of the discussion.

Phobos = 2 twin-linked lascannon sponsons, twin-linked heavy bolters
Crusader = 2 hurricane bolter sponsons, twin-linked assault cannons
Redeemer = 2 flamestorm cannon sponsons, twin-linked assault cannons
Helios = 2 twin-linked lascannon sponsons, Whirlwind Missile Launcher
Prometheus = 4 twin-linked heavy bolters
Achilles = 2 twin-linked multi-melta sponsons, Thunderfire cannon
Terminus Ultra = 2 twin-linked lascannon sponsons, lascannon sponsons, twin-linked lascannons
Excelsior = 2 twin-linked lascannon sponsons, heavy grav cannon w/grav amp

You're encouraged to take into account their options and/or special rules in your reasoning!

Crusader, simply because of the transport ability. Nothing more fun than 15 bloodclaws and a Wolf Priest charging into enemy lines.

Only the Helios and Crusader don't have schizophrenic loadouts, but for transportation it would be given to the Crusader.

That said, the Spartan is much better.

My vote is Prometheus.

Give it Psybolt ammunition = many S6 dakka.
It also has the great +1 to reserve rolls and reduces the cover of an enemy unit.

Phobos.

All you kids can get off my lawn with your new-fangled “variants”

Grumpy old man aside, I do like the classic from a TAC sense. While the LRC/R are better battlefield taxies, they are crummy tanks. Some of the FW options have decent firepower, but IIRC they pretty much toss aside the transport aspect. And if I’m including a LR in a list, I want to have some guys charging down the assault ramp to smash something.

The Phobos might be schizophrenic, (or tactically flexible, as I like to call it) overpriced, and not as tough as it should be with all the D weapons and other shenanigans out there. But it’s a classic, and I love it.

It's still early, but I thought the Achilles would run away with the voting because of the Armored Ceramite upgrade.

That would be awesome, but I don't see where in the rules that's permitted. The Prometheus has a list of upgrades it can select from in IA2, and it does not have access to the Codex: Inquisition armory.

Yeah, I'm still a big fan of the basic LR. It's always struggled with a dual identity of transport vs. pillbox, but my preference has always been to use it from my backlines as a firebase, with the added benefit of either protecting a valuable unit or carrying a counter-assault squad.

Is the Ares an official variant from a published book? I always thought it was one of those homemade datafaxes.

I gotta go Achilles

A thunderfire cannon, armored ceramite and 2 twin linked multimeltas. Yeah you cut down the transpo capacity, but throw a techpreist in there with some servitors and the IH tactics and it is basically invincible (until everyone and thier brother got D weapons)

Also it looks mean as gak, so it should have the fear rule IMHO (but I'm bias lol)

This is the one I got painted by atropos907 at "third fate creations" and I am still in awe

Redeemer. There's no confusion that you should be doing anything but going flat out 18" towards some fools that need punching by a character or 2 and 5 hammernators. Once they've gotten out, you are now perfectly in range to put out MEQ obliterating firepower in 2 directions with PotMS.

While the Crusader carries 2-4 more dudes, armour dependant, it's also got popguns instead of a pair of non-torrent baleflamers, and anything that can have their gak pushed in by a character or 2 and 5 hammernators probably wouldn't be fazed by 2 more hammernators anyway.

Anything with a grav cannon isn't terrible, but anything that encourages you to sit back and shoot with lascannons just means you're an expensive gun platform, and other stuff does that better.

The Redeemer has two sponsons that are impossible to use against even a mediocre opponent.

Back in my codex, we had one Land Raider type, and we were grateful! That said, the one with a Thunderfire seems juicy.

excelsior flat out its got the most utility, with it you can cut back on your amount of anti-air and your tank fighting gets better, it also gives you the ability to bring on reserves on a whim, the primaris also lets you basically ignore taking a techmarine

dont look at it as a 400 point land raider that has some fancy tricks look at it more like the land raider that comes with a free razorback, and a pile of utility

codex marines could use it to extreme devestation but people dont want to go chasing the use of it because its too cost effective to spam bikes like a lemming

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

I'm thinking of running a proxy Excelsior in my DA list just to give it a spin. The rules look really good, tbh.

But then you cram Chronos in there and give the tank the War of Murder or Schism of Mars LoG.
