So i've been toying with this list after much pondering. Key is of course to utilize smart positioning & cover as much as possible. It seems solid enough although it has some tougher match ups like flyer heavy lists and Eldar bike spam, but then again which list doesn't
Anyways, can it be improved upon without altering it too much?
The biggest issue I have had with running a list like this is that I can't find anyone that would let me play 2 Lords of War. The Heavy Retribution Cadre is sweet (slowing your opponent down while shooting them is great) but I'm surprised anyone lets you play it :[
Hmm. I like it alot! What point level is this? 1850?
The only thing I might change is.. running two HBC riptides rather then 1. Much more effective at taking out vehicles, and then you can leave your pie plates from your stormsurges to deal with TEQs

Thanks, yes 1850. The trade-off with 2 HBC is that one is without Stims and i do like stims on HBC 'tides. But yes it is possible.

1 WK can beat 2-3 IKs in melee with ghost glaives.
I normally don't. Eldar lists using MSU scatbikes and or multiple Wraithknights are super good. But sometimes one gets lucky and roll lots of 6 for the D-Missiles.
The only Tau counter to those lists i can think of would be to go Piranha Firestream Drone/Seeker/melta spam or maybe MSU Crisis spam. That might do it but i don't like the Piranha model and Crisis spam is boring (model wise) so i would probably just go Eldar myself

As a Tau player myself... I have 0 clue how I would face 5 wraithknights. Definitely try and take them out piecemeal.. doing so is so tough though when they can move 12" a turn. I run a suit heavy list myself, the main thing, is WK are T8.. I generally have enough s7 that I could handle 1 or 2 WKs... but 5 uff. I would imagine I would lose those units after my initial alpha strike and it would just be a rough battle from there.

Aye, i also play eldar besides Tau and this is an annoyingly tough list and i would like to find a proper Tau counter to it.
Massive Kroot spam maybe=) hundreds of ObSec Snipers LOL.

Going off this list. I wanted to see how many Knights I can kill in my turn 2 alpha strike. Since my entire Army comes in turn 2 because of his list. Its debatable on whether to use my DBC doom bonus for majority wounds or for low ap wounds..
I will do majority wounds first.. lets also assume that I rolled for 2 markerlights with my d3 formation bonus!
First knight - doomed
Welp... it took my entire army assuming I had no warlord traits (such as monster hunter to help me) , and my ghostkeel were killed turn 1... I managed to off 2 WKs..... in the next turn I would imagine I would lose maybe 1/3 of my army.. I feel like that's a safe assumption.. what of.. I am not sure.. too variable.. I would imagine I could kill another knight my next turn... and deal with some bikes etc... Lose maybe lose another 3rd of my remaining force.. maybe.. maybe by turn 4 kill another Knight... and MAYBE if i'm still in the game because of assaults... I can kill or damage the 5th knight turn 5..

Still it's a gamble with taking down those WK's. And then there's the psychic stuff and objectives to handle vs the obsec bikes. Hmm...
ONLY 1850 !@%!
yeah i have no idea. If i made a force designed to fight that list it maybe.. but otherwise I don't think i could take an allcomers army and expect to win.
Possible counter list..
Crisis bomb.. delete a WK a turn and try and kite as much as possible.
Buffmander, as is
x9 crisis suits, 18 drones to soak D shots
Lets see how effective this unit would be..lets assume 0 markerlights..
18 CIBs: 40.5 hits -> 22.5 wounds -> 5 damage dealt.. so exactly one knight dead.. granted your at 18" range.. but that should allow you to kite enough.
18 MPs: 27 hits -> 15 wounds -> 3.3 damage... so you can't take one out directly, but you will be 36" away and can kite better
18 Plasma: 27 hits -> 8.25 wounds -> 5.5 damage... I want to note how this is the battle of mass over ap... less wounds but no armor saves. Granted I am assuming he is running cannon WK so no 5++ as well.
18 burst cannons: 54 hits -> 16.5 wounds -> 4 damage.. didn't quite do it.
18 Fusion blasters: 13.5 hits -> 10.2 wounds -> 6.75 damage... hey there you go! gives some wiggle room as well!
Automatically Appended Next Post: This crisis unit is only like 700 points before drones too!
Automatically Appended Next Post: I would like to point out.. for effeciency sake... the stormsurge D missles may be the best option.. but you ultimately get lucky rolling a 6... plus you need the markerlight support and with 10 D shots to get rid of those stormsurge...

I have had a lot of success with this list. Turn 2 is devastating for my opponent, and the air formation gives your subpar AA fighters the buffs they need to clear airspace before they go hunting for ground transports and rear vehicle armor... Having turrets makes they awesome rear armor hunters. you pretty much can fly anywhere you want.
