Running a Gladius Strike Force with 10 assault marines and a jump Chaplian. Which load out would work best or do you have a better one?
Captain
Artificer Armour, SS, PF, & JP
Gorgons Chain, PW or Axe of Medusa, and JP
Thanks!

Does anyone have any experience fielding a Jump Captain?

I don't have the experience of using captain on jump pack, but I think if you want him to be monster hunter, maybe take burning blade, grav pistol, jump pack and artificer armor, Put him into a squad of Vanguard veteran, and put storm shields on two or three of those dudes, use them to LoS against AP2 shots, while the Captain tank the AP3 or less shots for the squad. Meanwhile, the weapon loadouts should be good for the Captain to go against normal MCs ot tanks.

The Shield Eternal becomes even MORE mandatory with the Jump Pack, because avoiding the ID threshold at T5 is easier than T4. That's an immediate fix.
Also seems like Raven Guard would be a mandatory pick, yes? If that's the case, the Chaplain could take that one suit of Artificer Armor they get (I think they have one that confers Stealth or something).

I ran a Jump Captain a few times in my BAngels. I used to arm him with Artificer armour and duel lightning claws. In one game he shredded through my opponents entire army, by himself. Recently I've added him back into my force but I now arm him with a lightning claw and power fist and chuck him into a squad of jump death company. Pretty affective, imo.
I think it'd be pretty sweet with a shield eternal and powerfist if you wanted to take out big things

Well the first load out I had up there was 2+/3++/6+++ with a PF and the second was 3+/3++/5+++ EW with the special Clan Axe. It seems like they both have their place in the list but seem pretty close. Thoughts?

I regularly use a Jump Pack Captain with SS and ToT to harass weak melee units. Works quite well and draws attention away from better units.

Any captain should have the shield eternal, that's not worth debating at a competitive level. His weapon is debatable depending on your meta. Many go for the a thunder hammer, but if you don't have many 2+ in your group the relic blade is still an option.

It isn't just the AP2, it is IDing T4 and reliably damaging vehicles that makes the Power Fist just that much better.

I've run a DA jump company master (he was flying solo since i lack any assault marines and i was borrowing the model) and he did nicely. artificer armor, thunderhammer, stormshield, digital weapon, shroud of heros makes for a serious beast in combat. WS6 2+ 3+ 5++ rerolling one to wound with str 8
not the best, not competitive, but in a friendly game he can be awesome

I have faced a jump pack captain a lot of times.
He had gorgon chains, power fist, lightning claw, artificer armor.
I don't remember anything more.
Very, very tough, hidden in a cheap assault squad.
So, even when I shoot him, he has a lot of guys to hide him, and he his really good by himself, but a bit pricey IIRC.
2+,3++,5+++ will not die isn't easy to remove.
I made him run away from the table once, killing some guys from his squad ^^
Killed him once when he hadn't his gorgon chains but a SS IIRC again.
Tough and mobile, a good choice to my mind.
DO NOT put him in an expensive unit, it will waste his potential and make shooting at the unit worth it.

I plan on running him with 10 assault marines plus the chaplain with JP. I was leaning towards the Gorgan Chain and the only downside is it would lock me down to Iron Hands.

The chaplain has got to go somewhere, and he's the least terrible with assault marines.
I'm not sure your second build is legal OP, since I don't think you can have 2 relics (unless the supplement is worded differently, or your group plays that it's fine because the chain doesn't replace a weapon or whatever).
Either way, captains are meh, don't overspend and go with your first option. AA, JP, SS & Fist. You could probably even get away with dropping the SS/fist and giving him a power weapon if you needed to shave points, but str 8 is nice to have.

Yeah I had to put the Chaplian somewhere and he fits best with the Assault Marines (2 with Flamers) for hatred. I have never had an issue with running two relics and I don't believe my FLGS does as well. If I would go with a power weapon would you get a PA?

I think a good low budget one would be AA, axe and a sword.
Step up from that is AA, LC/fist (or hammer). I've run this with some success. If you are in a squad you can LOS any instant death attacks away.
If you are just looking to tank wounds, SS/SE and a specialist/two handed killstick.

If you are playing Iron Hands, you might as well run the guy in a Command Squad. He will have 3+ FNP with the Gorgon's Chain.

What if I ran a Blood Angels Allies and put a Sang Priest in on the squad to give them all FNP and Furious Charge? Would that CT debate come into play about not being able to mix in CT with Blood Angels and stuff?

That isn't what a Sanguinary Priest does. They will grant FNP to non- BA. That is it. The Priest will have Furious Charge. And for what you are doing to get it, you are still better with a JP Command Squad as you wouldn't need to buy troops for the BA allies.

I wish SM command squads could take JP as I would stick with that rather than an ally.

Crap, I forgot that C: SM Command Squads can't take Jump Packs. Hmmm.

I know you're talking about using a jump pack. I don't know if you are absolutely set on using that.
If not, run a Chapter Master with a Bike using Raukaan. Give him Artificer Armour, Gorgons Chain, PF & LC. Put him in a Command Squad bikes to enjoy T5, EW, IWND, 2+/3++/3+ FNP (with the possibility of being 2+ FNP with the Warlord Trait). Throw in your Chaplain who is also on a bike and you have a pretty righteous death star.
Ignore this entire post if you aren't going to use bikes

I wanted to try something new other than the bike beat stick. I have ran him before and he never died mostly earning his points back. Since I received the new Blood Angels Chaplain for Christmas I wanted to try out something like this

Maybe you all would be interested in what my list will look like and can help provide feedback on the Captain. I decided to go with the Blood Angel ally to give the Captain 2+/3++/3+ FNP, EW, & IWND and the Assault Squad along with the Chaplain will have a 4+ FNP + Furious Charge from the Priest. Thanks for the help!
