According to the OP, the man specifically said he was bound with that GK list. So no he wasn't trying to play unbound.

I don't think you can have a really good pickup game with a stranger. It's way more fun to play with your gaming buddies.

Lot of trolls coming on here bashing a guy who got nicely asked if he got cheated against. Pretty sure thats why the official GW forums got shut down, because of people who have nothing better to do than bash a guy for playing a legal powerful list, and heaven forbid get enjoyment out of winning or at least having a shot at doing so.

Sounds like he duped you m80, sorry :( I'll echo everyone else and say ask for a list. I'll try and give him the benefit of the doubt, and just hope that he didn't know about the "paladins no longer being troops", but it's up to you if you ever wanna play him again.
MechaEmperor7000 wrote:I definitely call him cheating. There's no way he could have known about the 1 troop choice AND the term Bound without knowing about the new edition of Grey Knights, in which case he should have also known that Draigo no longer turned Paladins into Troops.
Even if not, there's no way all of that crap adds up to *only* 1500.
I would avoid playing him again, cuz there's plenty of legitimate cheese within the game especially if you can afford forgeworld, so there's no point in lying to this degree.
are people still whining about "forge world" cheese, which hasn't really been to major, when we have even worse gak popped out by GW?

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field. |

You can still use formation benefits as long as they are not listed as Command Bebefits like the Objective Secured rule for a CAD and an allied detachment.

If he used Paladins and made his Lancer his Warlord, most likely he went Unbound
7ed Draigo doesnt make paladins troops.
Nemesis Strike Force is 1 HQ and 1 Troop mandatory.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

pumpinchimp wrote:Played a guy I'd never met before, he brought some beautifully painted Grey Knights against my Tau. I got well and truely out-cheesed, gave up before my turn 3!
He had -
Kaldor Draigo
a lvl 3 Librarian
A squad of 5 paladins (with an Apothecary, a banner and 2 psycannons)
2 dread knights (both with the torrent flamer and heavy psycannons)
1 Ceratus Knight Lancer (his warlord)
1 Knight Crusader (i think that's the right one based on the weapons he was using)
I want to give him the benefit of doubt and assume he misheard me when I said I had a 1500pt list (I make the above about 2000) but he also said his list was bound and I can't figure out how (using battlescribe, I don't know grey knights very well, never played against them before). He said that Draigo made the paladins a troop choice and that he only needed to take one troop.
Is there a formation or something that makes it fit?
Sounds like a Grey Knight player here I had a game with in an escalation league. I was getting back into 40K after a couple years and got smoked. I found out later as I learned more about Grey Knights that he brought over 1100 points into a 750 point game.

I really Hate this mentality. STOP DOING IT! I play Eldar and have been for quite some time. Just because I play an Army doesn't make me TFG. Sure I have my cheeselists that I play in tournaments (at the local setting) but I have other lists that I bring out just to see how it measures up. This trend of "You play (insert faction here) so you must be TFG." really has to stop. It doesn't benefit anyone and never has.
Completely agree here. I play Eldar as well and I lose a lot more than I win. I know what the cheese is in my dex and I avoid it cause I want fun games. To instantly hate someone and call them TFG just because of the army they chose to play is really... disturbing to say the least. It's not the fault of the Tau or Eldar players that they have the rules/weapons/points costs they do. That's on GW, and not EVERY Tau or Eldar player brings cheese to every fight. Some bring legitimate fun lists. You know what hating on someone based on your biases towards their race is called in real life? RACISM. It's not ok in real life and it shouldn't be ok here.

Hey pal, if you play howling banshees and footdar I'm not gonna call you a cheeser, but the guy in this thread brought the optimized cheese cadre and retaliation cadre, I'm surprised he hadn't killed both knights by turn 2. The broadsides probably could have killed one knight by themselves.
Even if this guy did what OP says and brought 2k to a 1500 battle, I still see the tau as having the upper hand.

Complete rubbish, one of the best games I've ever had was a pick up game with a stranger (1500pts of Nids vs Harleys).
Why do some people think that an opponent you haven't played against before automatically has to be cheesemonger? Such a stupid outlook.
