Hey there guys, I have a big question!

I got my hands on an old White Dwarf issue (#197 May 2012) and saw that it has two very nice Formations for the Necron faction.
However, they were used in a Apocalypse game.
Since regular Match rules don't forbid the usage of Apocalypse formations, I was really curious if those from the WD are
still usable, because the Necron codex was updated.

One of the two formations isn't going to be that much of a problem, because it is one that doesn't have any benefits or
restrictions that wouldn't work with the newest Crondex.

The second one, on the other hand, has one special rule that allows it to spend Energy points on different bonuses.
One of them happens to be a 6" bubble which increases the RP roll by +1.
It is not limited to a 4+ (like it is nowadays in the new crondex), but it sais that a 1 is always a fail.
So, is this formation still allowed? (Ofc with the 4+ restriction for RP).

What do you guys think?

In my opinion they should. At least if they don't neet a complete overhaul.

A lot of the current formations are mirrors of old apocalypse formations as it is. And since there is no rule anymore keeping Superheavys out of the regular game. They are technically allowed as the rules just tell you to bring a valid formation, at this point you're just taking a formation from a still in print expansion of 40k, I see no real difference between it and taking Army bits out of the IA books.

Gonna move this to YMDC, kinda fits better there IMO.

This is not how the rules work. You need permission to use Apoc formations, not the other way around. Currently the only rules that give you permission to use Apoc formations are the Apocalypse rules them selves.

So no, Apoc formations can not be used in regular 40k.

Apocalypse Formations aren't legal for use in "standard" games of Warhammer 40k. If you want to play with them, check with your opponents. I wouldn't expect most tournaments or random strangers in an FLGS would allow them, though.

You don't want to introduce the nightmares of appoc formation in your regular games. if you want to play appoc formations go and play appoc. If you allow them be prepared for ork bikers with infinite movement, tyranids with build in invisibility like effects and rules that have appropriate names like "The Planet Killer"

Our club once tried to play a tournament with the ruling that a formation is a formation regardless of where it was published unless it has the seal "for apocalypse only". The tournament was a disaster of cheese that would choke a wraithknight.

Bikeboyz Kult of Speed. They gain inf movement if they arrive from reserve. Note in appoc arriving from reserve is something else then in a normal game on top of that they may fire if moved flat out or turbo boosted ( this was before snap shooting existed)
