Nope they are 7th IIRC - lot older than them..........but they missed the power jump to 7.5 ediiton.
But GW does not do codexes that need doing - it does different coloured marines with occassional other stuff - throwing in increasingly silly "themed" units......like sleds and murdering murder dreds with murder claws.
Ah a campaign book - I like their campaign books

Holding a river dance pose is not more dynamic. Bloody stupid, yes.
More to the point, put that image side by side with the other one, The differences are legion, not least the hairyness and proper proportions of the old ones, Infinitely superior.

With the caveat that all we have is the first blurry pic, I quite like all of the guys in the front, but not the one in the center with the Karate Kid crane pose. @Mr. Morden - Yeah, with the exclusion of kung fu wolf, the rest of them are reminiscent of the old ones, IMO. I never liked the old heads or stubby nail-claws though. TBH, I wasn't really a fan of space wolves when they first launched.

The old ones just have hairy faces and bit on their arms? - I agree the braids are cooler - but now i am thinking about the 13th Company spending more time doing their hair than fighting...............
The new ones I need to see clearly but like the legs element -very werewolfy. The pose is lazy - just the stadard - close combat pose from GW - Harlequins etc all learn the same star jumps as part of combat training................

@Mr Morden - I don't like werewolfy look of the leaping harlequinesque one's legs either. It's just not the aesthetic for me. The other ones look a little more like pelts? But I'm not sure. I don't know about most of 'em having "typical" poses though. Will need to see more photos. The pose I imagine the hero in is more like a Wolverine-type pose.

Old ones look wolfier in the face, new ones remind me of orks with wigs (silly wigs at that).
Old one's arms all look to be much more proportionate, the front right new one looks to have orangutan arms (and I'm not talking about the colour of their fur).
Power armour stopping at the knees for wolf legs looks ludicrous in my opinion. When you combine it with the bare arms and heads it seems like they're wolfy creatures who've put on a few scraps of power armour they found lying around rather than marines who've started to go a bit wolfy.
You're right, we can't see the legs of the new ones apart from the central figure, but they do look to be in Harlequin poses which is plain daft. 7-8 foot super-humans in power armour can't hold the same poses as lithe, slender space-elf acrobats. The old wulfen, while not especially dynamic, at least are in sensible poses for something that is based on a marine.

Ah right - good catch.........thanks
Please don;t ignore the digital codexes - GW do that too much on their own without others doing so :(
back to Wolves - as its the 13th Company and a Campaign - deos this not mean its likely for Chaos to get new stuff as well (unless they screw them over with no rules like Sisters in Sheild of baal)

I have the originals and I much prefer them. The new ones suffer from "too much skull bling syndrome", and look too much (even at a limited glance) like a Khornate unit for Age of Sigmar.
I like the old ones as they are more understated, but it's still obvious that they are marines who have gone through a horrible change.

Standard Marines do have a decent list- if you take the double demi formation. If you toss formations out the window and play a straight codex, their units (specific to just the SM codex) don't compare to either Tau or Eldar, I would wager Necrons would be an uphill battle. As far as Eldar and Tau, 1 stormsurge with missiles and some pathfinders (with its 4 shots at BS5) has about a 50% chance on turn 1 of removing any model in the game- and people complain about the 2 d-shots the Wraithknight has.
However, we aren't talking about regular marines, or eldar and Tau, we are talking about SW that have one functional unit- Thunderwolves. While some other codexes might have been as supported as SW, we certainly haven't been blessed by GW's rules development team (that's actually kind of funny to say it that way)

It says something about GW's rapid release cycle when 'nids are one of the oldest armies... and they only came out 2 years ago in Jan 2014 I've only played a couple of games with that horrible codex, lol. We're actually reaching the point where almost every codex is around 2 years old or newer, so it'll be interesting to see if GW start replacing codices that aren't even all that old (whether they need it or not is another matter!).

I disliked the most recent SW codex - plus the fact that they released it in two parts. I only bought one and that was rip off.
I hated the Sleigh and MurderDread
I really don;t like the Thunderwolves at all - cocept or execution.
I liked the 13th Company concept..........I like them coming back......
You can't ignore the fact that the 7.5 (power)Codexs are now built around formations and detachments - which raise them to that level of power compared to the older codexes. Try playing against power codex Marines with a non power codex.............its unbalanced.

I'm less annoyed by the models and more annoyed that GW is making yet another Assault unit. On foot, no guns. Maybe 12" move (since they're part beast), but probably not. Couldn't see better than 3+ with maybe some sort of poor Invuln.
The last new Assault units they came out with were the Cult Mechanicus Elecro-priest dudes and they looked cooler but were still garbage. Unless these guys get a bunch of fantastic rules, we probably won't even see them.

"Unimaginably ancient xenos artefact somewhere on the planet, hive fleet poised above our heads, hidden 'stealer broods making an early start....and now a bloody Chaos cult crawling out of the woodwork just in case we were bored. Welcome to my world, Ciaphas."
Inquisitor Amberley Vail, Ordo Xenos
"I will admit that some Primachs like Russ or Horus could have a chance against an unarmed 12 year old novice but, a full Battle Sister??!! One to one? In close combat? Perhaps three Primarchs fighting together... but just one Primarch?" da001

Honestly I prefer the old Wulfen. The new guys just look damn goofy with the non-wolf faces and giant furry limbs. It was better when it was just a Space Marine with wolf arms and a Wolfman head.

The last new Assault units they came out with were the Cult Mechanicus Elecro-priest dudes and they looked cooler but were still garbage. Unless these guys get a bunch of fantastic rules, we probably won't even see them.
If they're anything like the original Wulfen?
5-15 models @ 24ish points a model. Two CCWs and nobody other than a Wolf Priest may join the Pack. Animal Rage gave them a normal move+ D6" toward the nearest enemy instead of moving normally and it was unaffected by difficult terrain. If a Wolf Priest was in the unit, you could decide whether or not they were subject to Animal Rage. They had 3 attacks at S5 with I5, LD10, and WS5.
They were kind of like the Sicarian Ruststalkers before the Ruststalkers existed. A HUGE movement distance coupled with charge.
I could see them getting something not unlike the "Silent Stalker" Warlord Trait that the Raven Guard just got as well, where the unit they charge has to take a LD test in order to fire Overwatch.
Add in the various weapons we see them equipped with(one has a TH/ SS) and it could be a pretty interesting unit--despite being purely CC.
