Would've been better, yes. More like Ghouls.

The old Wolfen looked like apemen in power armour with limited poses and the new ones are a rather crude mix of features but better for conversions I guess.

And the very first pics we saw from HH: BaC were not bad at all. Further images just looked better. Sometimes crappy pics turn out to be the pics' fault and the models are fine. But usually terrible pics are because the models are terrible. A less shaky hand cannot make a crappy model look cool.

BS. Back that up or STFU. BaC has been universally loved except for the monopose dread and people that rightfully know that MkIII is best Mk.

You have to remember that Talys exists in his own Sigmar-esque bubble reality where things happened in whatever manner he needs them to in order to support the point he's attempting to make.

You and I know that the BaC models were largely positively received (Contemptor aside) from the very first images, but that's not the evidence Contrary Man needs, so he gets the evidence he feels he's entitled to right now.

Yeah, I remember no one having any issues with the BaC stuff except the usual "ugh, more marines" and the severely monopose dreadnought. Fast forward to today, and people *still* have the same feelings!

In the same vein, it seems better pictures did little to change opinions of the new AOS dwarves. People liked them or hated them, but there didn't seem to be a significant change from first impressions.

I'm not seeing anything that i would say is out of the norm. Wulfen have always been kinda "on the edge", like how far can they dive into the change before its irreversible. Mix that already unstable aspect of their geneseed with have spend as long in the warp as the 13th have and you're bound to get a far beastlier version of your normal SW.

As for the models themselves, I don't think they look any worse than the current Wulfen, with exception of Sgt Furrylegs (its abit much, he's obviously a mutant at this point). But then again I'm not a SW player and I don't own a pair of nostalgia goggles.

That's not true, my opinion drastically changed.

I loved the look of them in the blurry first pics we saw.

Then they hit GW's website for a proper look

Those spaces wolves really hammer home how GW's products become less and less "miniatures" and more and more "toys" with each terrible new release.

Hahah, fair enough! I admit my feelings weren't as strong on that second comment. However, I stand by what I said regarding BaC!

True. I hate that dreadnought in BaC, but I've still caught myself lingering over it at my FLGS, thinking that if it were just a bit cheaper I could get it and start painting up 18 different pre heresy colours for the fun of it.

Conversions should be a choice, not a necessity to make a "premium" product acceptable.

I will be willing to bet that the models will be released at the premium normal price point of 5 for 50 dollars. GW seems to think that that is fair for their quality work.

As for the rules. Who the hell knows. Back when I was working out wish list units, I added a wolfen unit that didn't take up a FOC slot. They Deepstruck in automatically on turn 2 moved like beasts, and automatically left the table when the game ended.

This all came from a fluff piece where a guard regiment was "rescued" by a unit of wolfen who showed up out of the warp, beat up the enemy, then left just as quickly as they came.

It really depends if these guys are nothing more than a new unit or two or if they represent an entire army faction inside the SW codex.

I am confused by the narrative that is being formed by some people here. The fyreslayers are a mixed bag, The Varanguard and the giant summoner were both excellent. The Tau were mostly excellent, the Horus stuff was excellent, the blood bound characters were excellent, etc. There have been a few releases of dubious quality, but the ratio of good to bad has improved dramatically in the last 10 years.
I will agree though that this release looks a little suspect. They are too busy, and not well posed. I think though that you could take these bits and mix them with regular space wolves for a much better overall effect.

I agree that you shouldn't HAVE to convert anything if you don't want to. And I convert literally every mini in my army, even the basic troops. Of course, I play CSM, not Nids or Guard, but still.

If GW wants to be ZOMG THE BEST MINIS EVAR then they need to be amazing out of the box. Drivel like this (further pics *might* prove this estimation to be wrong) doesn't deserve to be considered top notch, and certainly doesn't justify GW's increasingly "boutique" pricing.

I suppose I am one of the lone voices here that thinks the new models actually look pretty cool, huh? Sure, they are posed a bit interestingly, but better pictures and a more in depth view of the kit will probably change some opinions. I just wish they had more armor on them. Hopefully subsequent kits will be less controversial.

Also, I just want to point out that technically Space Wolves wear enough human skin on their armor to make a Night Lord blush.

I like the models too. That mutated savage look with conventional close combat weapons like axes, shields and claws is great. If they get playable rules, would be great too.

PS To all those who say the old ones are better, seriously now???

To all those who whine about murderfang, what do you say about a sanguinary priest with blood chalice, along with a dreadnought with blood talons, along with a librarian shooting blood boil and blood lance , in storm raven with blood strike missiles???

Subjective is subjective. To you who says the new one is better, seriously now?

We complain about them all the time. Stupid is stupid. We're not mentioning those because we're staying on topic.

Besides, I don't see what's wrong with Blood chalice; it's a chalice that carries blood

After seeing the physical sprues for the fyreslayers, my impression of them improved from "like" to "love" on most of them. They're really nice dwarf models, as nice as I've ever seen, generally speaking.

At the end of the day, I agree with you -- if I just had 2 buckets, "good" and "bad" (or like/dislike), the ratio since the start of this decade is way more strongly weighted on the "good" side, as compared to previous decades of GW's models (the 80's, 90's and 2000's).

GW seem to have forgotten how to sculpt muscle properly.

Its what was so glaringly poor about the dwarves, and now these. It doesnt help that the low standard of painting used for display models only exacerbates the poor sculpting rather than hides it.

I also don't get the painting bit, there are supremely talented painters working at GW, what is going on that stuff like those dwarves get into the magazines. All of them can do better than that.

Hell, I'm usually the one decrying GW's Space Marines As Procrastination release schedule, and I still think that the BaC stuff was a good idea. A kit for old marks of power armour that can be used by both Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine players is something I suggested years ago, along with a plastic Thunderhawk, as the two plastic kits that Space Marines really deserve.

These Wolfen, on the other hand, are not a kit the Space Marines deserve. It's a hard idea to get right, and they've clearly failed to get it right here. They should have been more along the lines of Space Marines with inhuman minds, with an emphasis on low-slung poses like loping runs or pouncing leaps, and maybe have one tearing flesh off of a severed arm with his teeth, not something like the goddamn Crane stance.
