Hi dakka,
First of all" Hello"

Im a relative new player and im playing imperial guard.
In our store where im playing there is a league with apocalypse ruleset.
The guy winning it 3 years in a row in 12 tournaments is a tau Player.
He is not " that guy" but he is just not very sympathic.
My First Game will be against him.
I never played against Tau before.
Point Limit is 12000.
I Managed to make a quick photo of his Army when he had it stored on the managers desk.
Missing in the picture are his whole infantrie and 6 small fliers and 2 big flier, one very big and one moderate.

I have 2 months till the game.
My army consists of 200 guardsmen, several tanks including 4 superheavie Tanks 2 lightnings,1 marauder.
I can Post an exact List if needed.
Im willing to spend some money to get myself prepared.
Can anyone help me out vs this Kind of tau?

1. use smaller pics.
2. starting at 12000? I call BS. play smaller games.
3. You're gonna get stomped. Do what you can to ensure you go first - take Inquisitor Coteaz, and any other buffs to ensure that you might go first. 200 guardsmen? don't combine the squads, and don't cross the streams.

**edit** hold on, 2 supremacy suits?!? refuse the game or play smaller ones.
get deathstrikes or the vortex bastions. if there is a warlord who allows you to go first, take him.

If you're new, why are you playing Apocalypse? It can be really fun, but it's a terrible way to get familiar with the game.

Bring a Warlord Titan. Or 3 if you can somehow get them. You are way past the godzilla threshold. It's time for the nuclear option.

Im quite familiar with the rules and im about to get realy into 40 k.
I like "encounters".
Are supremacy Suits realy that powerful?!?
I thought about getting a reaver titan or 2 warhounds.
Good or Bad idea?

Titans good. Titans really good.

Get nothing but titans.

The Supremacy Suits are stupid-durable due to being Gargantuan Creatures with insane number of wounds and high toughness. And they're pretty cost-effective to boot so you'll want something to erase large chunks of his army off the board to mitigate that.

I know the supremacy suit is insanely undercosted, but just two in 12k points is not really scumbag-tau territory. Maybe if he had like five or six it would be?

I'm also a fan of wtf-huge games where a lot of the imbalances get too small to notice.

For guard I think just having a ton of long range barrage like basilisks etc while a million cheap guardsmen make it impossible to outflank or deep strike on your table side is a pretty winning strategy. Warhounds with 2x laser destructors are pretty comparable to supremacy suits also.
Go after markerlights, first D the big things, barrage the smaller suits...

Without knowing details about the game format (board size, objectives etc,) I can't really be of more help than that.

Yeah, there's nothing you can do short of going all Titans. At least all his stuff is painted nicely. But, yeah, you're going to have unconsensual buttsecks in approximately two months; stretch before and after to avoid soreness.

But if you really do. Go and look for appocalypse formations in the appocalypse books and the appocalyse warzone books. There are some great tings in there for IG that will just evaporate tau armies
