Was that wtf for it being overcosted? Cos 40pts is a bargain for what it gives. Scout, infiltrate (I think) and deep strike? Yes please. And it keeps your scouts safe for a few turns as well.
If you think about a rhino, for 5 less points you get bigger transport capacity (which doesn't matter cos you really should be rolling with 5 man squads) and slightly better armour. What you're not getting is a much better gun (heavy bolter stock), the ability to jink and being able to move 12" and shoot heavy weapons normally. You even get infiltrate and scout without the need for WS chapter tactics.

Storms are stupidly excellent for what you get. It's an autobuy if you're using Scouts, no exceptions.

Good! i figured I was leaning in the right direction. Plus you get a free 5 man team when you buy a LSS box!. I made the marines look like theyre sitting on toilars, legs out, gaking themselves.
The speeder is essentially a floating razorback with 2 hp, gak armour but gets a neat-o save.
Seems kinda OP. Glad the consensus is so.
Any typical loadouts? I understand some are particular to HF or MM to be annoying threat pokes.

You can always keep the Storm plain with a Heavy Flamer, and give the Sergeant a Combi-Flamer for the odd Greedtide list you bump into. There's also my favorite, which is the Multi-Melta on the Storm and a Combi-Melta/Melta Bomb on the Sergeant.

The land Speeder storm gets most improved model in my view. I didn't play in 6th but when it was first introduced in 5th it was steaming garbage. Now it's probably the best transport marines have outside of forge world.

It’s old problems were BS3 and eating a FA slot. Both those are gone now.
Take them, they are good.

They're great all in all. But the opponent can deal with them as they're just av10 opentopped 2 HP without overly fancy mechanics to keep them alive. That's why not op. But close to due to all the other things that they bring.

I like them as an open-topped bolter-wagon.
It is a 5-man drive-by platform.
Heavy weapons and jamming are nice, but as a way to take and hold an objective, they're great.
By disembarking the squad, it is possible to take 2 objectives in a turn, if you position them well.

Thought that only filled 1 slot and it was just dedicated? Didnt know a troop + transport = 2 troops units for force org purposes

That's because it doesn't. I think he meant 2 objective secured units for one troops, but even then that's the same for any troop with transport.

There a good unit, not god like. If your having problems killing something that bolters can glance to death and 5 scouts you have other issues with your list.

They can get more tricks loaded on to them by formations as well. Although generally they loose ObSec for that.
In a 10th company TF, if you infiltrate them, they get precision shots and stealth. So you can use them aggressively, and then jink if shot at for a 3+ cover save.
In a stormbringer squadron, they can get a boost to their jink if near a normal speeder in the formation, and can disembark after 12”.
Might be more out there, those two came to mind.

Really - you could spam these things...competitively. I have 4 of them - they are worth their weight in gold. You can even give them an assault cannon for 10 points.
Another thing that is fantastic about these guys is they are an assault vehcical too! Meaning - this cheap unit can route most any squad of it's cost in melle too. They are marines with 4+ saves that you can get into assault much easier than tactical marines.
Basically...consider a 2x CAD running 12 of these with AC (or HB depending on the rest of your unit selections) with camo cloked scouts inside with melta bombs on the Sargent's. It easily has the objective control of gladius - maybe even better because jinking LSS is actually harder to kill than a razorback.
You probably got enough points left over to form a solid centurion death star in a pod. I'm surprised one hasn't won a tournament yet.

THIS GUY RIGHT HERE.
Assault cannon speeders for 10 pts? Thank you sir may I have som' moar????
Flamer speeder and a assault cannon speeder. It has been decided.
The comment about a speeder gladius is insulting to opponents. Losing to that many scouts.... Throw a libby in a pod, cast some LD lowering junk and let scouts win an assault. Causes riptides to flee from scouts. HOW RUDE.

How viable is running Assault Marines or something similar out of them? I've considered getting into a small Marine force but if I were to do that I'd like to still have the maneuverability that Dark Eldar have with their fast open-topped skimmers.

Totaly non-viable. The can only carry scouts.
That said, scouts can take a BP/ CCW so can act as assault marine juniors. That’s a lot of fun.

It's pretty much everything you could want in a trans port considering it only cost 40 points stock. It's a fast skimmer with that can get object secure which makes it great for zooming around for Maelstorm. It carries the better of the two standard troops for marines, all who got boosted up to marine ballistic skill. It can deepstrike, scout and outflank if you want it to.
Additionally it has pretty good offensive out put. The HB/HF isn't a bad base weapon and can be swapped for an AC bringing it to the price of a Razorback but with much better out put. Enough of them on the board makes deep striking reliably very risky and the Ceberus Launcher eats light Infantry.
