Hey guys..

I'm trying to decide which army to collect after my wolves. I've got a passion for both armies, and I love both sets of models equally. I'm not bothered about power levels as such.. But more of which army is more fun to play. I think Orks AND daemons could be both really fun and frustrating for different reasons...

Any help would be appreciated

If you want to be awesome, cool, fun, creative, and the life of the 40k party then play Orks. If you want to win then play Daemons.... actually scratch that Orks always win even when they lose so ignore those warp gitz and play da boyz.

Honestly? The Daemons have a better shot, but only if you play extremely well, roll the right powers, and bring the right units. Anything going against Tau has the possibility to get tabled.

I just don't want to seem like a joke rolling with orks. I like the grim dark humour.. But it's nice to think that I'm not gonna have an army that'll pretty much wreck itself

Orks are the most fun to play, imo. I have a 1k ork army, never wins, but I always have a great game with them. Daemons are good and ally well with csm which opens doors to new units, so are definitely worthy of consideration.

If all you want is great models and having fun with an army though, orks every day.

I would propose orks. They are ancient ennemies of the Tau so it would make for cool campaigns. While Tau vs Orks makes for a tough match for the orks due to the fact that their codex and army type is very vulnerable to them, there is some trick you can pull to surprise a Tau player for exemple throngs of small bands of Trukk boyz work well for me since they force Tau spread their massive firepower (which reduce the efficency of their markerlight network and their special rule of support fire). It also makes for a nice base for a Evil Sunz tribe.

Orks can still pull out some tricky wins (trust me, I almost beat a Necron Decurion detachment, it was 7-6), they just need a little more finesse. The big thing is Transports and going all in. You're either all Shooty or all Assault, you can't half ass it. Also, pick and choose your combats, as assaulting the wrong squad will often result in you losing.

Trust me, I main Daemons and yeah I can pull out wins against Tau, but it's just as hard. Smart Missile Systems are the bane of my existence, as Daemons are almost exclusively T3-4 and only get a 5+. Even your Daemon Princes are T5 and can get wrecked by SMS.

Well the thing about the Tau vs Ork matchup is that Tau is the extreme counter to Orks. Its not because Orks are weak but that Orks are an army of low armor, low AV vehicle spam that relies on cover saves and body count to get into close combat. Tau excels at spamming Str 5, targeting multiple vehicles with a single unit (target lock), ignoring cover, and have enough shots to handle large body counts plus have long range. Blitz Brigade use to be the solution to Tau before their latest codex but now the Stormsurge is a very powerful tool against AV14 (and everything else).

Orks actually do ok vs most enemies but Tau is THE hard counter for Orks. Daemons might not do all that well against Tau either but I don't know that matchup very well. Orks are not a joke on the tabletop if you bring a solid list. They might not win the top tables at a tournament but good Ork players can take games off very competitive armies.

The cool thing to say is orks are fun to play, but Daemons are pretty dang fun as well. You can pull a lot of crazy stuff, and deep striking is super sweet. You also have access to tons and tons and tons of awesome forgeworld goodies, as well as some of the coolest allies around (Renegades and heretics).

The thing to remember with daemons, is its basically 4 mini armies in one book. You have 4 vastly themes in the codex, and they are all pretty awesome to play as.

Oh, Chaos superheavies are also the best superheavies. Get a Greater Brass Scorpion, they are amazingly cool.

Daemons are fun, if you surrender yourself to the Gods. Their entire codex relies on randomness and quick thinking. Trust me, I've ran Daemons in a couple competitive tournies and nothing sucks harder than bad rolls on the Warpstorm table.

As an Ork player, I can tell you that Orks are a lot of fun to play/model/paint. Unless your friend brings out super cheesy lists, you can still do well vs Tau, but you need speed. Bikes and transports will do well, because you need to be in his face asap.

Do not footslog. Ever.

The only time I'd ever Footslog is for the Greentide Formation, with a Painboy, but that's a bit expensive TBH

Lost in a blizzard, somewhere near Toronto

A true Space Wolves player would easily pick Daemons, especially of the Tzeentchian variety, as it would be the single most fluffy choice!

Plus, there's that whole Warzone Fenris campaign stuff going on now!

Both armies are fun and have lots of conversion options. They both have lots of random effects and can be comicly painted as well as quite grimm.

here are some quick questions you should ask yourself.

Do you like to have vehicles (and transports) -> Orks
Do you like invulnerable saves. -> Daemons
Do you like psykrs -> Daemons.
Do you like monsters -> Daemons
Do you love painting 100+ of roughly the same models green ? -> Orks.
Do you love diversity in type of models -> Demons
Do you love diversity in type of equipment -> Orks
Do you also want to AoS or 9th age or equivalents with the same army -> Deamons.
Do you want to summon more of your army -> Deamons
Do you love playing appocalypse with scatch build titans ->orks.

I would argue that 40k orks can still be used for aos. They are just steam punk orks.
