Everyone in the formation within 12 inches of the painboy get FnP (6+)
The deff dread gains it will not die (6+)

you KNOW its true.

Lol, just attach the Painboy to a squad instantly becomes better HAHA

This is quite funny. But I guess Orks weren't meant to be taken seriously

Relax, that's just what I pessamistically predicted. I'm sure it will be much better. Maybe it will be 5+ within 6 inches!

We already know the ghaz remake is crap. 3 new formations, all worthless flyer bonuses.

It seems that GW has a clear bias towards SM, Tau, Eldar and possibly Necrons that is reflected in the rules.

I'm not optimistic to say the least.

But I'm still going to get one, possibly 2-3 more. Scratch build some mega armour for the nobz.

Even if the Formation isn't great it's still a good deal.

boys are 29
Deff Dread is 49
nobs are 25
painboy is 26

129 dollars of models for 85 is a solid deal.

I actually like this formation. It isn't over the top nasty. But it will get rid of that stupid lone fire warrior that refused to die in their turn once each game or do some real damage in a tricky massive combat.

The only downside is that dread. I just need to find a way to let him pull its weight.

The dreads are so dang cheap that it isn't too big of a deal. Just don't load it up with upgrades.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love

No true Ork player would ever complain about owning a Dread model

Using one is another matter entirely. But no one would complain about owning one.

I am just feel like it should be possible to play hide and seek with one. Not sure how. And deffdreads might be too big but the sneaky around the corner dread would be fun and could actually kinda work

Right. Another way to try to sell Nobz and Dreds. ALL THEY NEED TO DO is tweak the rules or point costs for those units and sales would go up. Sometimes I think GW is just out for money, and then they do stuff like this.

How many attacks would Deff Dreads have if they got 4 CCWs? Would that even work?

6 attacks base. It does work in that 4 CCW gives you a lot of melee attacks but its rough if you get immobilized and become a lawn ornament.

I was thinking it should be bumped up to 5 attacks base, before the CCW bonuses, so that would result in 8 attacks (9 on the charge).

That way you can comfortably drop two CCWs and still have a decent number of attacks for charging enemies (you don't want to completely wipe out a squad on a charge so you can duck out of shooting) and retain some shooting.

But Grot Riggers should be like Mek Tools, except onboard and work on a 6+ rather than 5+. Maybe that will help?

Allowing deff dreads to be taken in squads of 1-3 would have helped somewhat, I think.

Deff dreads could have million attacks and still be bad. It's not their problem to begin with.
They are only semi-fine in small games or in quite casual enviroment. Sure, full walker lists can hope to overextend the armor saturation, be fun and look awesome but they fall apart the moment they meet a decent list.

I think most Ork players that are left with a sour taste in their mouths (I know mine is still a bit bitter) are forgetting one VERY important point from the Painmob: Independent Characters, when joined to a unit, become part of that unit for all rules purposes. Take the painboy, put him with the nobz, and slap a warboss in the unit. Get into combat, "Pile on da PAIN" next round, kill a bunch of stuff for free!

The problem with Pile on Da Pain is that you can only use it during your movement phase which requires a locked in combat for 1-2 rounds of combat. Orks are really not durable and don't have the stats to stay in protracted combat where their furious charge has fallen off. Only time you want to stay locked in combat is to stay safe from enemy shooting and that's only really against a unit that is poor in close combat so they don't chew you up into tiny bits. Also honestly the issue with the Orks isn't its damage in close combat but the combination of durability and morale when trying to close the distance to get engaged in shooting/melee combat. For the Nobz in particular they are usally going to obliterate what they charge or get destroyed by better melee units. You would really have to go light on the PKs and be fighting something that hits like a wet noodle for Nobz to spend 2 rounds of combat locked in to hope you get a chance to make use of the formation rule.

Deffdreads despite their stat line and points being really appealing suffer from being walkers. Not having a save, infantry movement speed, difficult terrain being a major pain, and AV12 not being what it was in 5th just makes it not perform. If GW pulled their collective heads out of their imperial knight's exhaust port and stopped snorting warp dust with Draigo then maybe they could see that they don't sell walkers because the BRB rules for walkers are hot garbage.

Pretty much. This Ork box mostly suffers from 7th edition syndrome. This particular Ork box would have been fine in every edition back to 2nd ed.

At least on the bright side - it does give plenty of bits for conversions and customization. Deff Dread alone gives a good pile of spare parts for things as outlandish as meganob armor, or cybork body chunks. The Boyz/Nobz bits allow for a pretty wide array of equipment choices, and for those of us who haven't had an army in nigh unto a decade - Hounds of Demos's point of the deal on price is quite true.

That was (and probably still is) a 15+ page arguement. So, i'd not put my buck on it.
