So fluff wise drop pods fall through the air at about 12,000 KPH and dread pops are not only bigger but can go even faster and the fluff even mentions how drop pods can simply demolish a ruined building by crashing through it. So has anyone ever considered making up some house rules around this? I feel it could be very cool for narrative play though would obviously require some heavy forethought seeing as how you may need to adjust the point cost of the pod as well as come up with a system for how the drop pod could potentially land on a squad of orks and crush some of them or break down a ruined building someone used for cover and thus lower the save or getting rid of it entirely as the building is now rubble. Maybe I'm just thinking too much about it but I feel like that should kind of be happening a lot frankly...

Probably, but they would be the board a little farther down called "40K Proposed Rules", not on the board about asking rules clarifications.

The problem comes from balance. I bet if a Hive Tyrant came barreling out of the sky at full speed and landed on any infantry they would be crushed into paste.
And while many armies have units that can DS and should be able to just annihilate what they land on others have nothing! (DE that just teleport in). Is it fair to have a SM army load up on drop pods and start crushing a horde army to pieces on turn 1/2?
It's easier/more balanced to say no landing on models at all.

As I was thinking of this idea I did think of that exact problem, it would be a whole lot of work to come up with a system for the points and slowly integrate all the armies. Though I can't think of too many things that the other armies have that could be comparable to the drop pod. With the hive tyrant thing, I read that tyranids are dropped onto a planet via mycetic spores but then that might feel like stepping on toes to some. I mostly just thought it was a cool idea and was curious if anyone else liked the concept or had maybe thought of it before.

Some are dropped via spores. Some breed/evolved on the ground. By I was just saying a HT is like a dinosaur landing on you. If it flys full speed and decides to hit the ground where your at you might as well turn to jelly in your armor.

Given that Codex: Space Marines don't have a Strength D attack...
I could see this being a Str D Small Blast (which is about the size of the Drop Pod's bottom) that is One Use Only and occurs in the Movement phase. You must place the Drop Pod so that it touches the Blast template once the attack is resolved.

It can't be a thing, the fact that players would just take these as missiles with troops in it then. I can see it if the made them 55-65 point but even then it would be nuts. Plus I think it also a way for them to represent the fact that a unit would see them and move out the way, also a way to should that the imperium has some accuracy with there deployment methods. lol although they still have issue every now and then. Automatically Appended Next Post: I could see an blast effect similar to a vehicle exploding, d6" at strength 3/4.

This is literally what tank shock is, but the "pod shock" wouldn't allow a Death or Glory.

Is no one considering the fact that even if these pods were 300 pts each they can still be taken for free in a Gladius Strike Force, unless you completely overhaul then GSF in which case the DP won't be worth taking.

I honestly think the GSF should only be able to take Rhinos for free, or take Razorbacks/Drop pods if the Tac squads are full 10-man squads, but that's another topic entirely.

I'd tend to agree with this; I mean you could go even further still, why no damage from tanks trying to run you down? If a Drop Pod can splat a unit then surely a Land Raider can crush it too if it goes flat out and catches it by surprise? Why can't my tanks plough through weak walls? As cool as it would be, having to resolve all that could quickly get tedious.
That said, for Land Raiders it could be justified given how over priced they are, but for drop pods I don't think that extra damage is a good idea for the current game. Could be a fun addition for scenarios to have custom Drop Pod rules with they landing embedded in buildings, squashing units etc.
