So I'm going to start 30k. The constant Tau/Necron/Eldar match ups I get in 40k is finally starting to get on my nerves and I need a change of pace.

I have a Daemons army for 40k and AoS that I figure I would use to start. After that I plan on going with Word Bearers. I am having the issue of gathering info on Daemons though, presumably due to the fact that I have none of the books at my disposal at the moment. I've googled things and browsed forums but haven't found a whole lot of concrete info. Most of it is conflicting info. I have gathered two pieces of information that seem legitimate though: Daemons cannot summon other Daemons (bummer, but understandable) and there are no formations in 30k.

So I was wondering which 30k book the Daemons would be in (if any, perhaps it's just the 40k books. I don't know!) and what kind of detachment they can be fielded as. First I've heard that Age of Darkness is just fine but then I heard on a Facebook group that they HAVE to be allied with Word Bearers (which sounds wrong, and I'm hoping it's wrong).

I haven't looked at the new rules for Daemons yet (Wulfen book and such) and even though the formations cannot be used, can the datacards and rules still be applied legally?

The relics and psychic disciplines are considered a bolt-on to codex:chaos daemons (as opposed to a new sub-faction like Farsight Enclaves, Haemonculus Covens or Waaaggh! Ghazghkull) so, yes, you can use them.

You can use them as a pure age of darkness detachment - ideally with one of the two 30k Daemon Princes in HQ, as their rules specifically talk about a Daemons Primary Detachment. 30k has no formations per se, so you can only take them in a normal detachment.... In theory, nothing stops you taking a Leviathan detachment built around a Daemon Lord, though, nd the four-heralds-in-an-HQ-choice rule still applies.

You can take them as allies but only to someone whose rules say you can - essentially word bearers and militia cults with the right HQ choices. There are no other options as they're not on the normal ally matrix.

Here are the rules for a couple Daemon LoWs that FW put out models and free experimental 30k rules for. See Samus and Cor'bax dataslates. The models aren't much to look at IMO, but the rules look pretty fun. Both can be taken as HQs in a 30k army if its Primary Detachment is from Codex: Chaos Daemons.

Note that these rules are marked as "Experimental", so you probably want to get your opponent's OK. I can't imagine too many people caring about that.

Have a squiz at that topic in regards to daemon summoning. Basically there is no ruling that prevents the use of malefic daemonolgy by daemons.

Well that's very interesting and changes things quite a bit. Probably should get the go ahead from my opponent before each battle though. Just to make sure.
