Hey guys, I've been deciding between Dark Angels and Ultramarines for a while, and after some feedback on my Ultras list, also posted here, I decided to post my Dark Angel version as well for some feedback
So the theme is a 5th company Drop-pod list operating with minimal inner-circle support, (I may expand it to add Deathwing down the line as I love Terminators) And again my goal is to be competitive but still fluffy and fun, not full hardcore.

so here it is:

Demi-Company Formation -

HQ

Company Master Balthasar with Artificer Armour, Relic Blade, Combi-Plasma and Shroud of Heroes - 155pts

ELITES

Company Veteran squad (8 man) with BP and CCW, 2 Storm Shields, a Power Axe, a Power Sword, and a Powerfist in a Pod - 254pts (Balthasar goes in here)

Dreadnought with Multi-melta in a pod - 135pts

TROOPS

Tactical Squad (10 man) with PG, PC and Vet Sarge with Combi-Plasma in a pod - 225pts

Tactical Squad (10 man) with GG and GC in a pod - 225pts

Tactical Squad (10 man) with MG, MM and a Vet Sarge with Combi-Melta in a pod - 215pts

FAST ATTACK

Assault Squad (5 man) with 2 Flamers in a pod - 115pts

HEAVY SUPPORT

Devastator Squad (5 man) with 2 Grav Cannons in a pod - 175pts

TOTAL = 1499pts

so that's 7 pods, meaning 4 on turn 1 which is pretty neat. I also like the addition of the Vets in this list (compared to my Ultras) but the lack of doctrines makes the alpha of the DA a little weaker.
my Ultras version can be found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/681698.page

all comments welcome

kinda hard to screw up a lions blade demi there literally a list you follow so i dont see what your asking questions about here

maybe drop the veteran sargeant upgrades on the tacticals use them somewhere else but thats all im going to comment on because the rest is so positively cookie cutter i could use it to make gingerbread men

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

The special abilities associated with DA demi company involve shooting. I don't think drop pods are way to go with Dark Angels. Your getting every unit fires overwatch at bs3 and every unit gets objective secure. You need to look at it a different way and focus more on seizing objectives and board control- make the enemy come to you and gun them down. DA are the shooty marines. I'd maybe stick the assault squad in a drop pod with flamers but thats like it.

My DA builds focus on moving rhinos/razorbacks out to objectives fast, jumping out, and making them come to me. DA are pretty difficult to dig out of places. Then I have a small Ravenwing unit with homers to get my terminators in. I dont even use drop pods. My terminators go after problems.

Shooting gunlines aren't even my style of play. My main armies are orks and world eaters. Im a very aggressive player. I push my tactical squads forward then surgical strike places with terminators.

Someones probably going to name armies that can blow up my advice but those armies do it to every army. I just saw your original post and think your paying points per model for something you may not even use.

A small correction, Lion's Blade allows you to overwatch at FULL BS.

I like seeing a Greenwing list! Here are some comments from a long time DA player:

Plasma cannon / Grav cannon / Multimelta aren't too great in a pod. The plasma cannon cannot fire if it moves and the others are 6s to hit.

Assault marines in a pod with 2 meltaguns and a combi melta are a bit better suited for this type of role.

Dev squad with 2 grav cannons - this is a great unit to put in a rhino since they can shoot out of the 2 firepoints. In a pod, the turn they come out they're hitting on 6s.

At 1500 points your veterans and tacticals are taking way too many points. I'd suggest 5 man tac squads in rhinos (or razorbacks) with meltaguns or grav cannons.

*interesting point - full BS overwatch with grav cannons is really brutal because standing still = using the higher salvo number when firing.

That would free up some points to take some dark angels goodies like ravenwing bikers or the formation of landspeeders that gets overwatch and interceptor.

Veterans with a bunch of meltaguns in a pod can be fun to take out big baddies - but they are a suicide squad and I wouldn't put my warlord in it. But definitely don't kit them out for close combat - they won't survive that long after they drop.

(Interesting point DA vets are cheaper than space marine sternguards by a lot because you don't pay for special ammunition which actually makes them better drop pod suicide melters than sternguard)

For warlord of that formation I'd take a chaplain on a bike or a captain in terminator armor. Then either a terminator squad or bike squad to put him in and keep him safe (couple TH/SS in the termy squad if you take it)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Note - to get the termies or bikers you will need to take the lions blade detachment not just the demi company by itself - this is better though since it gives you full ballistic skill overwatch

Chaosmarauder, check your rulebook on how Salvo weapons work. You don't have to snapshot Grav Cannons if you move.
