Well - that's just it.

Should Thunderwolves be an auto-include?

Thank you, so very much!

How competitive does it need to be? If you want to win tournaments then yes is the most likely answer. If it's just for casual games then no.

Makes sense

they aren't stupid-levels of competitive, they can be gentle hehe

Did I say, Gentle? Bahaha
All the same - I think I should make room for them, yes...

Last question, is it enough to field them unequipped? Or should I add some weapons to them?

Or, is it enough to include a beastly Lord on Mount, with an unequipped escort of TWC?

Thank you!

I've seen some lists with TWC with hammer/shield perform very well. Very strong unit, especially when geared to kill stuff. If you can fit in geared TWC then do so by all means. And TWC will win you more games, so definitely worth taking if competitive gameplay is what you want.

Generally the way I've seen them run is that every model has a storm shield and the sarge has a powerfist or thunderhammer. This provides lots of tanking and ensures you don't simply get plasmaed to death with no saves.

yea but too many makes you very one dimensional and it can get you eatyen alive by some people. TWC lists are good but when they lose im pretty certain nothing is quite as decisive

So, general consensus is to not tun them naked.

I got a lot going on in my 1500 pts list, so think I maybe should run them with this loadout to keep pts down:

Wolf Guard Battle Leader,
SS and Krakenbone sword (ap2 relic) using company of the great wolf for +1 WS

3x TWC, 1 SS on leader, wolf claw on everyone

345pts in total, about 38pts per wound. Able to slice through anything 3+ and still utilize rending so as not to overpay and nullify the ability to rend.

I think preserving the WGBL's i5 seems ideal, able to land much damage before ever getting struck back.

Wolf claws are amazing powerswords, w/ shred being like monster hunter.
SS on leader lets me absorb challenges, which I Must do as Fenris, taking on moderately powerful characters w/o too much trouble; if i5 can strike first, definitely the better Challenger to go on.

Ultimately, the main questions are: is this unit an auto include as Space Wolves? And should I run them naked loadout. Seems the answers are: Yes use them, and definitely put some gear on them.

Thank you so much for replying!!!!

well you dont need to run them, and you can certainly win games without them, i actually dont own any black knights or many ravenwing in general, like 3 different ravenwing unit (well 4 i guess after magnets) and i have yet to field them and i win plenty of games, i do more then fine, i win games, i lose games. everyone loses games and being able to accept that is key to broadening your horizons on your army and how you understand them

If you get Curse of the Wulfen, there are some formations that make some lists that aren't dependent on TWC.

Still, I make TWC my common go to unit for my Space Wolves. I generally go for a list with a kitted out WGBL or WL with 5 TWC all with SS and a PF or TH on the leader.

I'm currently running one unit of TWC in my 1500 point list. They have one Wolf Claw and 3 SS. They are accompanied by a WGBL with PF/SS and Helm of Durfast. Idealy I'd like the krakenbone sword but I can't pull it off with the Blackmanes. I back this up with Blackmanes and a WS allied detachment to get grav cents in the list.

Wow thank you for your responses

I have played a few games recently on this new list (yes, post Wulfen book, tried Iron Wolves and Wulfen a lot). Found some cool ideas, however Wulfen in themselves are beasty haha

List I'm hammering out:

Not throwing them in is hard to do, but seems I gotta thin things out to do so =/

That's 1500 though, right? lol
