Everything stays. Essentially the "soul" blasts to heavens in a lightning strike to be recast/reforged once more. Everytime they are reforged they lose a part of who they are; memories and personality fade.

I expect we'll see some 'lost' Stormcast eventually.

I hate to be that guy, but: link?

Orc Stormcasts must be one of tge few flavours of Sigmarine conversions I've yet to see.

Lost Sigmarines, well, they're already quite a bit like the LotD, aren't they.

Now you've said that, I'll double-check at some point. I don't know if it ever says the armour remains. But I do recall the process sounds like it is left behind.

That's a shame! Whilst I am keeping my AoS experience almost entirely Stormcast free - I had considered how cool some old broken suits of hollow armour would look as objectives or scenery. Like the dead Terminator from Space Hulk.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

It's not exactly a concept unique to either WoW or AoS...

Interesting to see the "Infernal Tetrarchy"-looks like the Daemon Prince unit from the MotW book is making its way to AoS. Wonder what kinds of bonuses we'll see for them when they arrive.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

They vanish completely their whole body and soul gets taken. Going by the recent audio drama it sounds like they are literally getting smacked with a hammer when being reforged and in that process that's when they lose a part of themselves due to nagash. Whats nice is that we are finally seeing mortals fighting alongside stormcasts. That warrior priest is so badass.

Yeah when they get pulled back to Sigmaron there armour and weapons go as well. There's a scene in Warbeast where a Lord Celestant is surveying the aftermath of a battle, and remarks how odd it is to not see the body's of the warriors he lost, just the enemy.
.

Looking at the maps from Godbeasts I'm wondering how much the geography has been altered by the Chaos conquest. I had assumed that a lot of the more wacky features were the result of the RoC bleeding into the mortal realms. But the titbits about some of the pre Chaos nations seems to suggest that some of them are from before the Chaos invasion.

Seriously, I read it as a hint, but no one else reacted to it so maybe I'm seeing something that isn't there?

I have the same wondering. How the hell are/were mortals supposed to live in these realms?

I took it to be a hint too. Given the Genestealer familiars it wouldn't be a big surprise

Worth noting is that many of the regions will tend to be unusual and fantastic, aside from making for a fun story the average plain of (relative) normalness would rarely be an important military objective. There are more normal areas mentioned in the fluff, though battles don't really occur in said places during the story. Also of note is that unlike WHFB magic-users are relatively common; it seems that every tribe having at least a handful of shamans is/was normal, while nations had much more developed capacity.

I also kind of think about the maps, descriptions, stories, theories etc. as the way ancient people interpreted the world. Whole civilizations can exist, and the people would have built up an interpretation for the world, but it might not be anything close to "reality," which itself could be somewhat a field of mirrors and illusions.

Indeed, I like to think the Unreachable Mountain pictured was named by an incredibly fat man.

That's exactly what I was thinking, Vorian! And I think Sad Panda knows better than to just toss something like that out there as a joke.

So... anyone have pics of some really old chaos familiars to get an idea of what we might be talking about?

If new familiars are coming in the box it will mark the first AoS miniatures to come on 25mm bases. Everything else has been on 32mm or bigger so far.

I have to say, that page describing the duel between the Khorne Lords makes me think of an anime. I'm not even joking. All I could see was animu graphics and skulls cartoonishly flying everywhere.

Yeah, this is what I imagined was happening.

So if they brought Valkia back, maybe there's a chance to see Prince Sigvald again. At least I'd be sold on that :>
