My wallet weeps in anticipation.

All I can say is think about what we have seen in last six months, the fun nostalgic atmosphere of GW lately, this event art and announcement and this communication to stores today and it makes me happier the more I think about it. If this turns out not to be accurate meh, oh well. Fun thinking about it. I trust him completely and he's never been wrong so.. But that's just me. There's a wealth of options for FLGS with gaming veterans who could have fun events dusting off older models for a fun weekend. Hell, with boxed games break out those genestealers

Specialist games, FB and website propaganda, like Imperial primer/Starship Troopers, milking the nostalgia great gaming age for vets who understandably have a black eye. Eh, honestly, if they really did dig up the molds and crank out a bunch of the originals, I'd buy a couple boxes.

^ Just want to point out that the stormcast liberator you got with the white dwarf, while actually beeing a clamshell style mini sprue, are not from a single mold. They are printed from the same mold as the age of sigmar starterset. It is not a seperate mold. the sprues are on a single mold with 4 single liberators on the last part of it. Every time a starterset is made they also make 4 of the liberator singles and they ship these out in boxes by the hundreds to every store as those come in and paint/build a miniature demo's.

I dunno. One site is saying its on one marine. Maybe that means it's a model from the old first box? Maybe I'm way off here.

...but instead, we should see Squat ancestor leading a squad of exoarmor warriors because, clearly that would be the better way.

Eh- thats me on warseer and I'm just postulating from the information here- its not new info. A full box seems a lot to me- the discussion here was around a single character release initially - i just thought a full box might be a bit much to expect. mind you- limited release.. you never know..

I think, given the age, that the odds of the original die for RTB01
- still existing
- being compatible with modern HIPs presses
- being owned by GW (back then they may have been produced off site?)
- not being worn to gak

Are pretty slim.

Making the big assumption that this is indeed what we're getting, I'd expect them to either be 3D scanned and the sprue redesigned or, and personally more likely, they simply develop a new MkVI box. Which I'd buy, not because I've a particular need, but because that's the sort of move that deserves supporting.

I don't think this will be a box set. A pic of the next white dwarf says a special "miniature" will be on sale while supplies last. It may be a single RTB01 marine, but a whole box set? Unlikely.

Agreed, a box might sell for 100 quid if its a Deathwatch or whatever, but at the same price as a Tactical squad there's no point. I think this will be a collector's item akin to the 25th Anniversary "Captain Coteaz." Ie, sell a single collector's model for 10x the asking price of a normal version. Also, a box is not a collector's item but a single RT01 Marines? Ebay, bidding starts £250. Bit much? A LEGO Millenium Falcon goes for a grand or more. I saw a Pyrex measuring jug (the kind you get from Argos for £3 for cooking) was going at 145.

Yep sorry for the confusion and not quoting you properly on warseer! The nostalgia is strong with that set- I still have my original marines and even though my "modern"[i.e. post rogue trader] armies are both xenos I might be quite tempted to get these guys if they update them the way they have done with the recent gene stealer cults. My Storm Troopers Of Death chapter could get a few very late additions!

Yeah, I thought the same thing. It does make you wonder, though, what happened to the original RT era plastic molds.
Maybe they're in the water somewhere, anchoring fishing nets alongside the original DeLorean panel dies.

Yeah, I'm leaning more and more towards a single model from that box but really wish the guy had more specific detail

One of the stores near me have shared the video featuring the RTB-01 marines again, I wonder if the exclusive miniature is the guy front and centre here?

For some reason I really doubt a box of RTB01 will be it... I can see novelty in having 1-5 of old school marines... but didn't that box have like 20? I'm not sure anyone wants THAT many completely out of scale minis alongside their modern ones. Not impossible but seems unlikely to me for that reason -

If they did do an RTB release, I'd be very surprised if they hadn't recut the sprues to fit the existing build style. I doubt that GW would invest as much as they have over the last 3 decades only to reuse one of their original products without first bringing it in-line with modern scales and qualities.

A nice plastic Mk VI Space Marine would be a pleasant surprise. A box of ten multi-part Mk VIs would obviously be even better, but I would anticipate getting one of those in the Heresy range down the line anyway.

Either way, I'm pleased enough to see GW display some consciousness of their game's history that I shall resist the urge to whine about the limited miniature not being a Squat, Grox or crystal forest made of old slottabases.
