They are rather expensive on eBay, and I'd rather not have to buy a box of Warriors every time i need a unit of Scarabs. Are there any other places (GW models, or other places) to get Necron Scarabs?

Thanks

FW does scarab swarms. There's also ebay, and Puppetswar do a knock-off Cyber Spiders.

GW does not sell Scarabs by themselves. You will have to get forgeworld ones or Ebay them. You could also just get a crap ton of boxes of warriors. Those warriors could be useful if you ever play apocalypse and want to do an Infinite Phalanx apocalypse formation.

You might look for bits dealers on ebay for bits from the Tessaract Vault box, if you haven't already...that box comes with alot of scarabs (~40 by pictures I'm seeing)

For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WARHAMMER-40K-BITS-NECRON-TESSERACT-VAULT-SCARABS-/131762531223?hash=item1eada8ab97:g:5-oAAOSwzvlW9ZSd.

You'll have to judge for yourself whether what they're asking is worth it to you...

Friends who built Obelsiks from the same box istead of Vault might have extra scarabs to sell, trade, or give (though I imagine these players are gonna want to use the extra scarabs for themselves typically)

(EDIT: Sorry, when I wrote this I misunderstood you were saying "other than eBay")

I personally half the amount of scarabs on a base, this allows me to get double the amount

Yeah, your options tend to be as follows...

1. Buy more boxes of Warriors. - Not really cost effective
2. Buy Scarabs off eBay. - Inconsistent. Bits sellers tend to be pricey. Look for some random guy selling poorly assembled or painted models and just cut the up for parts.
3. Forgeworld. - Pricey, but an option.
4. 3rd Party Vendors. - Puppetswar.eu has some good options. There are others.
5. Cheap insect looking toys. - Check random toy stores. You'd be surprised what you can find that looks reasonable once you slap on a silver paint job.

I went the eBay route. I bought an auction of poorly assembled and painted Necrons that included a handful of Warriors, a broken Immortal and a grand total of 27 Scarabs on various bases. I ended up pitching the Warriors and Immortals and putting 3 Scarabs per base. I think I paid 11 USD and ended up with 9 Scarab bases.

If you go with #1 you can use the warriors for the Infinite Phalanx Apocalypse formation. It can have up to 200 warriors I think.

Buy these. So what if they're only "bases" if they already have everything you could need.

Me too. I think they look alot better clumped together in big numbers on the ground, rather than the typical 3-scarabs-hovering-over-a-base configuration.

Yeah they are supposed to be scarab swarms so they look much better when they are swarming.

Although I am guilty of running three model scarab swarms, those do look awesome. They should have 10 wounds according to the rule of cool

And they would still get ID by S: 6 weapons.

There's a tradition in the UK, from what I've been told, that if you try to do an April Fool's Day joke past 12pm that you are the fool.

The actual April Fool's Day jokes from GW, like the Primarch Pop-Up Book and the Left Handed Paint Brushes won't let you check out with the item.
FW did not do an April Fool's Day joke, and what's more they posted up "Last Chance to Buy" after 12pm their time.

Well you might be stuck with ebay, warrior boxes, or even the superheavy version.

You could always press mold them and spread out the real ones on top.

(i dont think press molds are really considered piracy is it? )

If you get a single FW scarab swarm, you could recast the top of it pretty easily and use that to make terrain on the top of as many bases as you need. Then just stick one or two real scarabs on top to give it some depth, and something to hold onto to move it around.

Not really, the FW scarab swarms are fiddle as all hell with those tiny legs.

Here's an idea I gleefully stole from another person, who will remain unnamed lest I besmirch their sterling Imperialist reputation... (Not really, it was Honda from Greggle's Tabletop);

Originally done for Flensing Scarabs from IA14, but essentially you take some detritus (or skeleton models), damage them so it looks like they've been melted, and put them on the bases. You then glue sand to them in great drifts and paint the sand to match your army colour scheme. Voila, nanoscarabs.

Sorry for the late reply. If you want to proxy them with some similar and cool looking models, try these.
