A friend wants to take on my guard at 1850, but I'm a bit short so planning on bringing some of my DA. His only recommendation for our game is that I bring the best list I can bring, including any flavor of cheese we desire. I haven't used it before, but I really want to test out Azrael in a blob, with Ezekiel hopefully bring invis, but I'm debating what's the easiest way to take him (since he's a LoW).
I can't remember, are there any stipulations about how big your detachments need to be? If I run two CAD, can the Azrael one be my primary even if it's less points? Can I run Azrael in a barebones CAD? I couldn't find anything in the BRB, could you point me to a page if I'm missing something?
So the overall unit will be 5 squads, with 5 flamers, 2 vox casters, and 2 autocannons. Azrael giving 4++, Zeke giving telepathy powers (invis hopefully) and doubling attacks, and a lvl 2 primaris psyker on divination. Maybe not the deadliest, but lolololol

Yes. AFAIK the only detachments that can't be your primary are the AD and IK Oathsworn detachment. Can I run Azrael in a barebones CAD?
Most definitely.

Ezekiel only buffs the number of attacks for units/models with the DA faction.

Actually the OP's proposed use for him is one of the few ways he might actually be worth taking. Giving a blob of 50 or so guardsmen a 4++ save is pretty gross, especially if he can get Invisibility on them as well.

That depends on what he's challenged out by. A TWC dude can easily take the challenge while Azrael swings away at the squad.
He isn't GREAT but you're giving him far less credit than you should.

If he's going in a combined blob of 5 Infantry Squads, then there's 5 sergeants to bravely step up first...

Pretty sure there was a high ranked DA list with Azrael as part of some space wolves/librarius Conclave shenanigans to give them all a 4++ from LVO this year

Yes you can...that is the tactic with him. I assumed that you just left the priest out of the original list on accident. I wouldnt bother with the autocannons. I would take melta bombs on all your IG squad leaders though. You dont want to be tarpitted by a single dread./sentinel. Power axes can also be good if you have the points, it adds a little extra punch and some AP 2 since Azreal is only swinging AP3.
