So, I've been fairly interested with the idea of a tau CQB commander for a while, and I'm finally considering taking the plunge and making one. I also want to take this idea to it's logical extreme as well. I'm very much a fan of the theory that farsight is corrupted by chaos, and I find the idea of tau corruption by chaos interesting to say the last. So, I want to make a CBQ tau commander who's corrupted by the ruinous powers. Now, I'm comming here mainly because 1: I want some input on how to use and how to make a good tau CQB commander, 2: I want some input on what lore would work well for a chaos corrupted commander who's got a thing for punching people.

My plan on how I'd kit him out is giving him the onager gauntlet, vectored retro-thrusters, iridium armor, shield gen, stim injector. I'm not sure if this is too many points dumped into a model that can be insta-deathed by a power fist, but I'd like some input on how I could make him a bit more survivable and capable of thwacking people to death.

As far as the lore, I'm not certain how to make this guy work. I know tau don't fall to chaos very often, though I'm aware the protagonist in FW did, and that tau do have a presence in the warp (even if it's minute). What I'm wanting is an honorable guy whom has a blood lust problem and prefers melee/shock tactics. I'm wanting to make him basically as extreme as you can get with tau. That being said, I'm not sure well I could make this work, and with idea like "chaos tau guy who punches people to death" you need to do it well, else it's cliche as all hell. With that all being said, I want to make this idea work because the modeling for it could be fun as hell, and some input would be great.

Wanted to make something like it in 6th, when 6th was new, and that Tau where friends with everyone.

The idea was to make somekind of Dark Mech to go with my CSm force.

Farsight with Crisis and a riptide with some Pathfinders.

intended to convert Juggernauts with raptors jump packs on the back with some Necron weapons.

had a Dreamforge Stormtroopers kit to make the pathfinders and heavely converted a riptide, so muhc that now i use it as a Soulgrinder.

Fluff was that those "crisis" where somekind of Cyborg/Dreadnought, a mix of cyber-augmentics, Daemon machinery with Dead CSM in it brought back to life by obscur rituals and alchemy.

I've had a lot of success with a Farsight commander: Iridium, Neuroweb, Fusion Blades, Talisman, Onager, Stims. Hard to kill, hits like a truck.

I was going to suggest dropping the shield or stims (to taste) to take the fusion blades. reason for, you get the Str8AP1 attacks until you roll a one, then the Onager.

I actually have a fully modeled chaos crisis suit commander on hand, as well as a bodyguard chaos spawn/crisis suit kitbadh, I'll try to get some photos up if you want.

The commander i currently play in pretty much every causal game is
- iridium
- neuroweb
- puretide chip
- talismon
- Fusion Blades
- Stim
- Vector Thrusters

I want to say this comes out somewhere around 241 points? or something close to that. Seems like a lot of investment but let me tell you, he earns his points every game.

Most of the time if i know he is coming in turn 2 (through retaliation cadre) I will deepstrike him with a unit.. but if i run a hunter Cadre, i usually start him on the board solo. He can move->run->shoot until he gets near enough to start charging. And he is very effective with 5 attacks on the charge.. made better by the WS5 warlord trait from FSE.

He also tanks everything... be wary of s10 but anything else your fine. I run him solo because fleet does not confer to the unit. So he is much faster on his own.

Spoiler:
Careful that no one mention that the book is a novelization of a video game with the same name. (I never got past the ship boarding as I kept getting lost)

The book is different IIRC. still a similar set up and plot line but i think it ends differently. My point still stand though.

Do we really want to take games as canon? Black library is bad with canon GW plays it off as "PR" or what not. Part of the Tau is there lack of soul that demons don't seem to care much about them as they are less then a snack to them. Though I will laugh my off if they were a just some plain by tzeentch

Tau have a soul, don't mix them up with the players.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Anyway, theres a good deal of fluff hinting that Chaos is going to be playing a bigger part with Tau. Shadowsun got a voice in the head and Farsight has a prophecy about him.

As for crunch, Iridium armor does +1 Toughness still yea? So you don't have to worry about ID outside of Thunderwolves. Outside of that I can't really think of anyways to make him a smashfucker, but there is the one warlord trait that lets you increase WS.

I guess look at Fusion Blades as well, but isn't that a relic? Still S8 AP1 at init.

Lore says they are Blunt not Blank - so harder to be perceived or affected by psychics and the warp - there is no reason they can not be corrupted if Chaos tries hard enough........

They can be physically corrupted - same as anything physical but they may not be morally corrupted.....however the Tau have emotions and desires so they are somewhat vulnerable to the latter...........

Why don't you just use farsight's rules but a different model? Not a tau player myself but considering the fact he's got a sword he's got to be worth something in combat.

I feel like the fusion blade is a better weapon than the dawn blade, and I can add more wargear onto the guy in order to make him better in combat than farsight.

Difficult, not impossible. They aren't Blanks, after all.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
