I've recently gotten back into hosting D&D for my buddies and it's a blast. Although I like playing PCs, I don't mind DMing for my friends and running an adventure. I've recently taken up modules due to time and other hobbies/work wrecking any chance to build/create my own adventures. I'm currently playing 3.5 edition due to all the books I already had as well as the absolute ton of material available for this edition.

D&D, no. I do get together the my gaming group twice a week for Pathfinder though. And we will still occasionally draw from older 3.5 stuff. One of the guys is currently running a big module from there atm. (World’s Largest Dungeon or something like that)
While there are a number of differences between 3.5 and Pathfinder, they are still very much cut from the same cloth.

A few guys from my gaming group play in a weekly Fifth ed. game, mostly with folks they know from outside of gaming. Fifth seems to be a big hit with people discovering an interest in RPGs and gaming generally.

I'm actively playing D&D. I have DM'ed for a several of years now with different groups, but currently one of the guys I play with has taken over as DM. I'm back to the role of PC for a while, which I am quite enjoying.
I do love wargames, but when it comes to gathering around a table for some good fun nothing beats D&D (or equivalent RPG).
In terms of editions, I played 3.5 briefly a long time ago. I really got started in 4th, and transitioned to 5th when it came out. There are things I miss about 3.5 and 4, but 5th is probably my favorite overall.

I also play D&D actively. Started with 4e, slowly learning the ropes to 3.5, hoping to take a look at basic (the rules cyclopedia one). Also may or may not be DMing for the first time for 3.5 in a few months.

We're at the wind down phase of a really long online game of Pathfinder.
I really want to run some 5th edition one of these days, but my next project will probably be less hassle to run in PF as well. I prefer 5th as a system but they've not got the breadth for what I want to do yet.
Hoping to get an In Person game going with some people from work and a friend here, but finding players is an issue due to all of us being ex-pats.

We've been playing a 5e campaign for over a year now, using the Kingmaker adventure path. Our DM adapted it for 5e.
D&D is far from dead. Sales of the 5e books have been very strong.

I just got into D&D last year, have been in two fifth edition campaigns that alternate each week for about six months now. Our LGS runs D&D every Thursday, and we usually have about 12 players between two tables. On occasion the LGS holds some one-shot sessions on Wednesdays or Saturdays, but the DMs who run those have weird schedules so they don't always take off. But generally I think D&D is pretty popular around here.
I really enjoy D&D, and one of the DMs has decided to integrate Curse of Strahd into their campaign, so that's been a lot of fun, though it got pretty hairy when we unexpectedly fought a CR7 boss while we are level 4 last week because I wanted to explore a windmill I sto-... found... a deed to. We leveled up at least, but that was brutal, especially since I and the other party warlock were the only ones doing legitimate damage.

I play pathfinder (3.5-ish) about 3-4 times a month, and was playing 5th edition weekly. That campaign is on a short break, but we'll play it again in 6 months or so.

A group of friends plays Pathfinder every couple months (scheduling is a royal pain), and I've been thinking of running them through a 4E module to get some use out of my various terrain collections and books.
Sadly it's been years since we played an RPG regularly.

I bought the core books for Pathfinder back when it was originally released. I like the look of it but I never did get a chance to play (I was moving around a lot at the time and just never got hooked up with a reliable group).
I just recently picked up a set of core books for D&D 5th ed and I like that too. I think there's a group at the local comics & games store that's running some campaigns so I may try to get back into playing.

I have a gaming group of 9 with 3 DMs including myself that plays every weekend for 6-12 hours. We started playing in 3rd edition moved on to 3.5 and then to pathfinder as we didn't care for 4th ed and now we are into 5th. We have played hoard of the dragon queen, rise of tiamat, and two or three Dm made games and a dozen or so one off sessions. All and all the game has become less power gaming and more fun to our group.

There are some advantages to both 3.5 and Pathfinder.
While I will complain about the massive bloat that overcame 3.5 towards the end of it’s life, there were a lot of gems scattered around there. While I prefer the archetype system Pathfinder uses to tweak characters from the base class, 3.5’s use of prestige classes let you do some neat things. And they have been largely abandoned in Pathfinder.
We had a lot of fun in a campaign that we transitioned from 3.5 to Pathfinder. Lots of fun stuff got grandfathered in, with the overall smoother Pathfinder mechanics.

One of my favorite things about 3.5: the resources and campaign books/supplements. HOLY GAK. Aside from premade adventures, the amount of source material is insane, even without including the d20 knockoffs.

Both a blessing and a curse. We found at the end you could not just let players take what they wanted from wherever. The DM had to ride careful heard on what was open for use, and vet characters carefully. With so many moving parts and feats/classes/abilities/items/spells there were some game breaking combos that could come out.
Also when you consider classes like clerics and druids have access to every spell on their list just by praying in the morning, they got crazy powerful. Just cherry pick the busted stuff from whatever splat book you could bring to the table. Wizards at least had to scribe the spells in their book, and sorcerers had a finite number to pick from.
