2000pt battles for Matched Play. Points in the book.
GW are creating the point costs.
First thing, its a book and will be release in the summer. There are 5 new campaigns including path to glory, 22 new battle plans from small games all the way up to epic battles between the games biggest characters. 6 new ‘Pitched Battle’ scenarios Multi-player and team play and of course, full points values for every Warscroll in Age of Sigmar.

Haven't listened yet, but the inclusion of 6 flavours of pitched battle gives me hope - matched play will be a stand-alone game mode with it's own battleplans, rather than playing the Ritual wth perfectly even forces...
These guys were invited by GW to go to HQ and play test/read the book. GW have written it.
Throughout that process one of the scenarios was scrapped as they said it didn't work.
Other feedback was given and taken on board.
Regarding "balance":
HeelanHammer wrote:I can't really give too many thoughts at this stage, although we will obviously be discussing this more in the months to come. I think the main thing to remember with this book, is that is encourages multiple ways to play. Don't like points? Don't play that way. Love points? Something for you. When I play Wayne (co-host for those that don't know) we won't play points, we would play narrative. If I play a random new player at club I've never played I will play Matched as its. All ways are equally valid and I'm personally very excited about what this means for the game.
Also, if the system comes out and you don't agree with points/other bits, alter them as you see fit for your own games/events! We've been saying similar with our well received SCGT system - there are odd bits people don't like and don't agree with and we've encouraged people to take the system and adapt how you like - its a gaming aid. Much like this book, think 'toolbox/aid'.
Appears to be no change to core rules. So I'm interested to know if summoning is still a free-for-all/+1 saves are still in for Matched Play. Because how do you points value that sensibly.

It was cool to hear how receptive GW was to the guys' feedback, with Jervis scrapping a scenario right away when they said it wasn't working.
Edit: Also liked the way Jervis interprets the game, as two players creating a movie and the models are the cast. That's how I think of the game too, but probably not a super common interpretation in modern wargaming.

On the podcast there was a quick comment by either Russ or Ben about playing with Nagash and the new summoning rules.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The only downside so far is the points won't be "living" if they are in a book, and that's a shame. Everything else sounds great.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I will currently take all this to be the same as the Grand Alliance books. They're essentially 'out-of-date' the moment you buy them but there's still value in having a physical copy. Probably do an annual release with community feedback. App version updated as normal

That would be cool and probably the most sensible, feel that it could go either way though. They've tended to charge for 'additional content' so far, not that I blame them for that.
I kinda wish they would make the parts available separately. I like points, so I will probably only use those rules.
Still, this news has made me want to actually work on my Stormcast Eternals. I still can't decide on a color scheme. I want to have it pinned down before I go adding more dudes.

That is a very.... peculiar number they have there.
Here's hoping 2000 pts means roughly 30-40 miniatures for more skilled armies.
They said it makes a 2.5 hour game.
As for the peculiar number, I am expecting 40k levels of points. Especially with all the options on each warscroll. Where things soon don't make sense when compared.

Shane... I have a bad feeling about this.
I will definitely need to hear that podcast.

You're supposed to be the positive one.
My idea of what the points could be are a complete guess. But the 2000 pts/2.5 hour game is specifically mentioned.
Correction: There are different scaled battles i.e. different point values by battleplan.
Podcast wrote:...Matched Play where there will be actual points by Games Workshop for [AoS] models...you can play matched games, practice games, pick-up games, friendly games...these are actually going to be 2000pts. Proper, harking back to Warhammer. 2000pts is going to be the 2 hour, 2 and a half hour battle. There's different levels of battle in the book with different points values

I do want to see the Path to Glory content.

Getting at least some outside feedback is an improvement over GW's usual attempts at balancing points....which is to say not, not all that good.
It certainly is an improvement although GW still doesn't seem to realize that as much as they playtest a game the player testing and feedback will always be better. Especially since we can get in quite a bit more games and more odd scenarios then they can come up with.

Looking forward to it! More options to game, ideas, campaigns, all the better to me.

If they get the TO guys to review everything it might be okay.
Given that they scrapped something immediately based on the TO's feedback, would suggest it's more than a lip service / hostage situation.
I read about that. I found it a bit worrying that as experienced a designer as Jervis should design a scenario that didn't work. But it was feedback and got taken notice of, so that's good.
I just wonder if GW and the TO guys will find the time for them to review all new releases. That's what will be required for consistency going forward.
Wow, this news increases both my hopes for and my interest in the upcoming release. Even if it turns out to be a flop the approach GW is taking here is a massive step in the right direction IMO.
