Initially what are your thoughts on picking up datacards, are they worth it?

What is the difference in the two Tau datacards that makes one better then the other?

Without saying, the warlord trait cards are different.

The objective cards are also different. The Tau have more gunline objectives, where farsight has more mont'ka style objectives, such as "get 1 point if you kill the first unit targeted in your shooting, 2 pts if first two, 3+d3 if first 3 units" something like that anyway. Farsight also has some hilarious extra melee cards. (funny because it is tau).

I prefer farsight because of its hilarity.

So for the sheer fact of fun, Farsight is better? Though if you want actual game play the basic Tau cards are what yo use? Do you have an example of hilarious melee cards? I normally try to get a single unit of Tau in close combat at least once during a game haha.

Sorry if I was a bit confusing. For fun or not I always use Farsight cards. I just don't like the static play that I find the Tau cards make you do.

One example... get 1 point if 2 or more of your units charge a single enemy unit. Get d3 points if that unit is then killed in the assault phase. There are few others as well.

Sounds like your Tau have been taking lessons from the wrong movies.

YESSSSS that is exactly why its hilarious! But in some seriousness though, I do have decent success with charging my crisis/ghostkeel/riptides at the right times. MCs should not have innate smash imo. Or rather it should be a single smash attack s10 ap2 w/ your base attacks are ap3 maybe.. base ap2 attacks is too good I think.

I have had zero success in close combat so far. But I never stop attempting!

How would you suggest a situation being "proper conditions" to charge with the Tau? I always get wasted by my opponent every single time. Usually it's just my horrid dice rolls...

So firstly, you can't charge a CC unit.. you will lose. What do I define as a CC unit? any unit that is WS5 or higher.. any unit with special CC wargear (like power swords, or special rules etc), a much larger unit that is fearless ala gaunts as an example.

Crisis suits are not bad... WS2 means that against MEQ your hitting on 4s still. S5 means against MEQ your wounding on 3s and against GEQ your wounding on 2s!!! A2 base, means that on the charge a unit of 3 suits have 9 attacks.. that is not bad considering. 2 wounds means your not dieing to a few wounds at the higher initiative then yourself.

Ok now that we covered why the statline is acceptable.

I love throwing dice into space marines wiping out half a squad and then charging them. Two things happen.. Either I finish off the target, or i lock myself for a few rounds but saving my unit from getting shot to pieces. This works even better on a unit that is not fearless. I realize this is all not directly answering your question... it comes with practice.

I would have said haywire firewarriors charge vehicles all day.. but the FAQ looks like that is a no.. in fact it looks like this shouldn't have been happening anyway (based on the brb ahah)
