Subject: Smaller Walkers for Imperial Knight Houses?
|
 |
Veteran Knight Baron in a Crusader
|
I'm currently fluffing out a Dark Heresy campaign that involves the party interacting heavily with a Knight Household and I'm thinking about including sort of Contemptor Dreadnought-sized support vehicles of some kind, and I just want to ask about how possible they are before I go ahead and convert a few.
I've got a few ideas for them, either they are:
a) literal support craft (Ammunition haulers or fuel carriers or something)
b) lesser fighting machines that can be used in greater numbers to support the less numerous but larger Imperial Knights (armed with smaller cannon and something like dreadnought close-combat weapons to be piloted by lesser individuals in a feudal system)
I honestly don't know a great deal about Knight Houses, having only just started my research but I just thought I'd throw this out to see what other people think. Any thoughts of suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Go and read the " mechanicum " novel or listen to the audiobook
Knights are already small machines Automatically Appended Next Post: Forge world used to produce Sentinel Powerlifters.
They could be used as support vehicles and might fit your purpose. The Rogue Trader ( RPG) into the storm book has some stats for them
Automatically Appended Next Post: They look great : )

Of course they're tiny for titans, but I'm thinking of something that would be more of a utility vehicle for those of lesser stature in the house to serve on the battle field. Something that is heavier than their 'peasant' men at arms, but not as large a stature as an actual knight.

I imagine in my own head that whilst they wouldn't necessarily utilise manned walkers such as the sentinel or a dreadnaught, they may use rather specific/larger forms of servitors, maybe from centurion/ogryn size up to dreadnaught size, and not necessarily humanoid in shape either, maybe a the flatbed of a truck (with treads obviously) and then the upper part of a torso and head with two elongated arms the can load/carry multiple amounts of battle canon ammo, or even like the front forks of an american trash truck sort of thing.
Basically, if you think along a servitor sense, the world is your oyster. Maybe it's a servitor base unit that has some sort of turret on top.

Seems to me that any Knight household would use Sentinels for scouting. They're pretty ubiquitous for human armies, like Chimeras.

They use warhound Titans for scouting.
Mechanicum is a must read if you like Titans and Knight houses

While it might not be a thing it would be pretty cool. These planets did live by themselves without the imperium for a while. Without the mechanicus dogma of "NO INNOVATION! " there could be maybe 1 or 2 houses who developed walkers to be used by low house knights, bannermen, and even squires.
How cool would it be if a dreadnaught sized walker carried the chainsword of the houses imperial knight. I would love to see that conversion.

Good point I looked it up again. Seems like both the titanicus and the knight houses where mixed up as one force in my memory. Automatically Appended Next Post: So I have no idea what knight use as scouts.

No Doubt there would be an array of support vehicles, power lifters and servitors. I imagine they would have access and make use of Trojan Support Vehicles for hauling around Ammunition and parts behind the front lines, Atlas Recovery Tanks for well, Recovery of downed Knights, I imagine they are pretty heavy. and Servitors of all shapes and sizes are just about everywhere, and they let you be a bit wild and creative, Sentinel Power lifters are probably there somewhere moving stuff around.
And on the Subject of Scouting for knights, this is probably carried out by the supported armies scouts. they may have their own form of scout teams on the ground, or their own sentinels or similar.

Probably woodsmen raised as part of their citizen levies when operating militantly as their own force. Ordinary squishy humans with cloaks, longbows and micro-bead comm links.

Actually, from Titan Legions:
"The Sentinel walker used by the Imperial Guard is in fact a copy of the tried and tested Drover suit adapted for combat with the addition of basic armament"
Bear in mind that the Knight Worlds were made out to be a lot more technically savvy in Titan Legions than in the codex - at the time, Knights were essentially used for megasaur ranching with a sideline in combat.

I'll echo sentinels and I'm tempted to say rhino variants?
Sentinel power lifters working with supply rhinos to keep the Knights fuelled and loaded in the field, with combat sentinels piloted by household troops guarding the supply lines and consolidating the knight's gains.
Lots of nonstandard stuff like heavy stubber/multilaser cupolas on the rhinos, maybe some whirlwinds.
I know rhinos are boring but they are supposed to be in widespread use as tractors, exploration vehicles etc throughout the Imperium.
I'd steer clear of any weapons that could potentially threaten the knights themselves.
