A Pre-Heresy Log Of The 10th Legion

Hello and welcome to this log based upon the 10th Legion, the Iron Hands.
First, A little about myself, I am a young man, around about 23yo. I live in the Sunny South-East of Queensland, Australia.
I got into Hobby the year before Highschool, When A friend Brought in a SpaceMarine. It soon Kicked off after that, building a small 40k Ultramarines Army, Which after a year or so, Turned into a 'Quick and Easy' Dry brushed boltgun metal Space Marine army with a bit of red and white thrown in to add some colour. 40k Dropped off my radar, Painting and building wise, I was always interested in the lore, and universe and ended up playing the Computer Games, like Dawn of War. And then Started Reading the Books for a couple years. Until Semi Recently, with only one friend left Interested in the Hobby, I decided to kick it off again, and have since Started a pure Skitarii Army and Jumped into Painting up a Imperial Navy Fleet for Battlefleet Gothic (which may get it's own Log). This was all now done alongside my main desire of a Horus Heresy Era Army.

Which Brings me to this Log, which will follow my progress Building and Painting A Force of the Xth Legion.
I am by No means a master painter or perfectionist, if miss things, or they get a bit to much of a pain and I can live with it. But I hope my work is worth sharing, as I like to show my work to others, and maybe inspire things in people.
So here goes, for Now I will Start with My First Iron Hand Completed. A Sgt. for some Medusan Immortals, Really blew myself away with the face, and he has inspired my want for a Silver 'Crusade' Era scheme, as I felt there are enough black Loyalist.
Being careful not to get to mixed up with Iron warriors, that's the challenge. No Hazard stripes here. Base needs Reworking to different colours, don't really like how it is, too boring. Please Enjoy. Many more to come.

Looking really nice so far

I've always seen bases as a "frame" of sorts for a model, while you want it to draw the eye to the artwork at first, it's the actual art itself that you really want to be the focus

For me, your base does this just fine and is also in keeping with the sombre tones of the iron hands themselves

If you want to try something different, maybe a snow base would provide a good contrast

Here's Hoping these are working for everyone else. A couple more shots of the Sgt.

The Base Will most likely be Done in GW Steel Legion Drab, with GW Mordheim Turf. might try and include more bits and pieces on random bases, especially characters and what not.



Current Projects are Orth, a Sicaran and a Tactical Squad in MKIII along with the rest of the Immortals I have going on.

Here is A quick close up of the Face of the Sgt. to go along with a quick update on progress.
This is quite an old picture of a few months ago, when I first started, so you may notice the hoses and such lack the gold and bronze looks from the other more recent pictures.



Progress has been a little slow, as I am fairly busy on the weekends with the partner, so I actually get more painting done on week days after work.
So I've only done a little bit this evening due do the long weekend. will try upload so indoor lighting photos next evening,
but I will make sure to get some nice clear outdoor light photos up over the weekend as it is quite dark by the time I get home during the week.

Very nice stuff! I really like that off metallic black and the skintone is very nice as well!

Thank you for the Positive Feed Back so far, I was really eager to share the first finished Tactical marine, so I managed to take a few pictures in the last bit of light in the day.
So they kinda came out a bit blurry and not perfect enough, so Looks like I will have to redo them on the week end in the sunshine!

Moving On, Currently moved onto The Sgt. For the First 20 Man Tac. Squad, Which he will be getting a nice Resin Base which should be coming in a package later in the week,
Also Working on an Apothecary in MK II Armour and Mr. Orth, which is on a bas made using parts form an old 40k basing set. The Idea with him is to look like he has crawled out of a wrecked tank, with chunks of metal and pipes one the ground round him.
He will also receive a slightly dirtier paint job with scorch marks and the like.

That's all for now, but may have another small update during the week, followed by a bigger on either on or just after the next weekend.

Just a small update of things in the Line. Sgt. For the Tactical squad is almost ready for basecoat and his Resin bases.
You may Notice the BFG ships in the back ground, which may get there own Thread.

Also have an Awesome Birthday Gift on it's way for Forgeworld, not Iron Hands Related, but the start of a new 30k HH Army.
Actually have alot planned after my Holidays in a few Weeks, going to be building some gaming boards and Terrain, So lots to come in the coming months.

He doesn't have to be all white, thats more of a 40K codex thing. You could have him be usual black with a white pad or maybe due to their beliefs being tied to bionics, go metallic instead of white. Or change the helix to be have red(blood) and half silver(bionics).

Going for, white helmet, top plate on torso, bolt pistol arm and shoulder pad. maybe white knee pad as well with red Medic thingos.

Have Reference pictures cheers for input.

Another Short Update on a little bit of progress. Base Coated the Sgt of the Tac Squad and done the first few layers of the white base for the Apothecary.

Another Nightly Update, been Working on the Apothecary for the last 3 hours.
Pretty happy with how the white is coming along so far, still needs the highlights and maybe a touch up or two in places, but happy with the progress none the less.

The Shield is apart of the Medusan Immortals kit, pity they didn't have a few options/spares.

Another Daily! Not much in this one as I have been out all night. Received some Resin bases in the mail, so far I will only use them on things like Sergeants of squads and what not.
Pretty excited for my next shipment from Forgeworld, but that lot will probably set aside for now as a later Log.

Here is the set of 10 bases, I like most of these, but at least one of them really doesn't have any space to have a model actually standing on it, maybe the running Legs of some models?



MK III Tactical Sergeant. Believe it or not, I bloody dropped him with my butter fingers onto tiled floor and of allllllllll the parts that could break or be damaged, he loses a damn finger tip of the power fist, so I've just put on some green stuff to try and re-sculpt a new one...

True battle damage. Seriously though just say that he doesn't need that part anymore as it's a jack to connect into his gun, locker safe or other tech device. Kind of like a 40k fingerprint scanner without the finger.

I've Got some more! I'm trying to keep this Log fairly active, maybe not every day, but if I can squeeze something in I'l squeeze it in, that's how I roll.
Another fairly small update today, but update none the less. Bases for bothe the Sergeant and Apothecary are pretty much done, so pretty happy with those so far, the one for the Apothecary I think needs a little bit of work. I have also painted up the Leadbelcher layer on the Sergeant, I was pretty sure I did the Earthshade wash, but he does look very silvery so he is probably going to receive another one to give him that dirty tone. You may notice the Finger tip on the power fist, not perfect but close enough, looks like a finger tip haha. And onto the Apothecary, he has had the red on the shoulder pad done along with the base, but I am feeling that I need to Redo the Containers or liquid on his belt as the don't really look like glass or whatever the 40k equivalent of glass it, probably Void cast Clear warp something something. So those will be painted black instead of the very light grey/ off white they are now, And I did notice I missed a small one, which will be done in a deep red.

Oh, In Semi Related News, received my order from Forgeworld but the "character" I ordered came without his Head and Arms! But as most of you should know, Forgeworld are great in the regards of customer service, and replied within about an hour! As a result they have apologized and are Casting up replacements to send out to me. So it is only a slight inconvenience as I knew I could count on them to sort it out, Love 'em!

Hahaha, No funnily enough. I have actually begun to make my way into a Small All Terminator Death guard Army Led by Calas Tyhpon (Missing Heads and arms Sprue).

I will Start some More Logs of both the Death Guard and Some Gaming Tables I will be making once they get underway, they are still a few months off At the moment as I both want to finish some more of my Iron hands, and need to save up the dosh to buy it all, which is a bit hard at the moment as all said dosh is funding my trip to New Zealand to explore Glaciers and hang out with Family.

Oh I will, I really like sharing my work, I know it's nothing amazing, but sometimes it can be enough to get people interested or think differently, doing the gaming boards will be something new For me and I Love Following the works other people have done and that always inspires me to try new things out myself. So hopefully that will be pretty amazing as I am going to try stuff heaps of extra details into them to bring it to life.
