Hold on to your umbrellas folks, have we got some news for you! The 1964 classic, Mary Poppins, will be getting a sequel titled Mary Poppins Returns on December 25, 2018. Emily Blunt (Into the Woods) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights) are set to star in the film directed by Rob Marshall (director of Into the Woods). The screenplay, which will be based on The Mary Poppins stories by P.L. Travers, will be written by David Magee (Life of Pi).
Blunt has been cast as Mary Poppins, while Miranda will be playing a brand new character named Jack, who is described as a street lamplighter. The story is set to take place in Depression-era London, and will follow a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by their old nanny Mary Poppins after a personal loss. Poppins will once again use her unique powers to help the family “rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.”
I am truly humbled and honored to be asked by Disney to bring P.L. Travers’ further adventures to the screen. The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an original movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins, and her message that childlike wonder can be found in even the most challenging of times, to a whole new generation,” says Marshall.
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel sealed this for me. Manuel is brilliant in everything I've seen of him from Hamilton and like Kronk Blunt is one of my favorite leads currently in Hollywood.

I'm in wait and see mode. It could be great, it could even be the best movie ever, but it still somehow feels wrong without Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.

"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks
to be asked by Disney to bring P.L. Travers’ further adventures to the screen
Didn't P.L. Travers hate the Disney iteration of her book(s)? I know there was a movie a year or two ago Disney made about the situation that (supposedly) altered history so that eventually she was cool with Tom Hanks', Disney's version of Disney, version of it but there were stories about how in reality that never happened.

Well yes, of course, but there is no way Andrews and Van Dyke are walking through that door!

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.
