On3s played in a friendly 1k tournamrnt. I had won the previous couple of tournaments with tau and decided to play my foot eldar. To even asked for some changes to my list(he really dislikes it when I win).

I played warhost with 3 guardians ,war walkers 20 banshees and some scorps.

One guy showed up with double flyrant, bunch of gaunts, biovore and a zoanthrope. Game 2 I play him and to is gleefully hovering around the table expecting my loss. I didn't and won the tournament.

He happily announcd 2nd and 3rd and dejectedly announced I was the winner. Enjoyed that moment a bit too much.

Flew my Riptide across the table and stomped a Leman Rus to death. My opponent would just not shut up about how great they are in fluff and how he was going to wreck me so badly. I had to listen to like weeks of trash talk. This was one of my earlier games when were all just starting.

Went down like a sack of potatoes, and then went down to hunt his HQ.

Farsight would be proud.

I was in a 800pt 1-day tournament that encouraged bringing things from outside the meta. My 3rd game was against some kid who stacked as many grav-cents as he could. He didn't bother to read the mission pack and needed to call the TO over 4-5 times to ask how the mission was to be played. I had read the pack and essentially had the game won by turn 3 due to how the mission was scored. He then complained that a guard army "wastes too much time and shouldn't be allowed". 3 Guardsmen survived and my opponent left the tournament after this, his 3rd straight defeat.

Ah the joys of spite~

I have a fairly well behaved community so the only smug one that springs to mind is from waaaaaaay back in fourth, and it's only memorable because of the accident surrounding it.

My SM vs Major Tyranid Forgeworld junkie generally obnoxious chap with opinions on everything, you know the sort.

Anyway, I had just that day bought the 4th edition rulebook (having borrowed someone else's at every opportunity what with being a broke student at the time) said 'ok let's have a standard game' and laid out my models accordingly.

Chap lays out two wingrants, all the carnifexes and a crapton of genestealers + some other stuff I forget. I lay out my TWO(!) tac squads with double plasma guns (cleanse & purify) in rhinos, a lib, some termies and ASM. Game merges into the center of the table as close wombat starts. Chap goes on about how I don't have a chance since genstealers are the bestest etc.

he attacks my rhino
explodes it
Rolls a 6
fails every single save
300~ pts of genestealers die to a rhino.

SM jump out and plasma all of the synapse in the area, Termies stormbolter what's left causing morale checks

Everything but the second hive tyrant at the far corner breaks, chased after by asm to prevent them from regrouping, termies walk into and over the tyrant. game ends with 3 quarters of the table controlled.

It turned out later that he had heard 'standard game' as 2500, so I ended up flattening him with a 1000 point handicap.

The Best one however was in the days of Farsight the week before the release of the current IG codex.

Big game with our resident That Guy competition player, just so happens not to have brought his own dice with him (to be fair this was when or GW allowed storage of models, and it was a pickup game but it's relevant later) so I lend him my spare set. He's currently the chap who runs forgeworld wraithknights and scatbikes, before that the draigo wing with 'every thing has a different profile so I never lose a model' wound allocation, blood angel nipple wing etc so you get the idea. This was tau as bad as it could be at the time.

Roll off, he rolls first, but we get table corners deploys farsight bomb in exactly the spot that would be able to walk over my army.

I seize.

Fire manticore, 3 on d3 right on farsights head.

with my dice:
Fails *first* look out sir.
Fails armour save - instant death.
3 more dead crisis suits
Fails leadership test
Farsight bomb is pinned with one shot ( barrage weapons forced a pinning test each time they hit in 6th).

after that
Executioner pastes 1/3rd of farsight bomb
Veterans kill all the drones and then plasma another 2 suits.

Multi-tournament champion concedes turn 1.

Those dice are now revered as the tau slayers ;D

This is in part why I generally insist on rolling for deloyment because it mixes it up enough that it genuinely undermines some army builds.

My story is not one I was personally involved with, but involved people playing in a tournament I was in as well ( Just across the room ) .

It was a few years ago, but basically what happened was there was a (I think) 1500pt tournament at my FLGS. The competitors in this were generally decent lads, nothing too over the top and most players just out to roll some dice and have a good time.

Then word goes around that this one older guy decides he is going to bring two Warhound Titans in his list (I think he had the Blast Template loadouts).

Well one of the other players in the tournament, who is known for attending the more competitive events around the state, hears about this and decides OK ! Lets roll !

This legend doesn't care about winning, he just wants to show up the Titan guy.

Using a (If I recall correctly) 40 or 50 man blob of Guard , armed with melta bombs and goodies , supported by a librarian that successfully makes them invisible for every round of the game, he proceeds to melt the two Titans to death over the course of a game.

After the tournament was over and the placements were being read out, I noticed the titan dude was gone. He had pretty much packed up after his game and left.

I won't lie, It made me feel warm and fuzzy inside

People like that guy definitely deserve it. Makes me twitch when I see older gamers ruining it for kids just wanting a fun game. Great story

My favourite one:

So in my local GW we have a pretty comp list environment we're all fairly casual but we all have some horrible lists.

There's a couple of kids (about 11-12) one of which plays space wolves we were in a 1000 point tournament I recognise the kid and immediately go "you got thunderwolf cavalry" he replies "yes". He then started to brag about how his thunderwolves would kill all my units. I inform him that my warlord trait allowed me to fire a vehicle twice (new anvil strike force) I was playing 2 vindicators (instant death on thunderwolves) he was playing a formation which could on a 6 give a unit outflank his thunderwolves and wolf lord rolled this and started in reserves. To accompany my army I had a shadowstrike kill team. He got first turn moved up some grey hunters and bikes killed 2 scouts and glanced my warlord whirlwind. I then demolish one squad of bikes with a vindicator in my turn in his second turn no thunderwolves yet he moves up more does nothing. In my second turn I kill 1 more unit of grey hunters. Next turn the thunderwolves come on and hence commence the bragging he then tries to charge I know you cant charge from outflank and say no. My turn shadowstrike kill team come in (I choose when they do) my dreadnought gets 5 inches away and my vindciators look right at them. Vanguard don't scatter (3 inches away) my vindicators unload 3 demolisher cannons (warlord trait) kill 2 chainsword guys. My vanguard charge (formation bonus) and so does my dreadnought he only had axes left in the unit by this time. My vamguards relic blade and lightning claws shred 1 more thunderwolf and my dreadnought attacks kills his wolf lord and other thunderwolf. He then tried to claim his wolf lord was toughness 6 (again I know this is false) and I asked him to show me and then he said oh yeah sorry he is toughness 5 and removes him. To be fair the kid did keep fighting but was tabled next turn.

Seven squads of Tau overwatching a Firehowlers Jumpguard unit containing my warlord, two of them were marker drones. Desperation move on my part because I needed slay the warlord to scrape a draw.
Only the marker drones passed leadership for the Bloodcurdling Charge so I followed up by slamming Wulfen into his vehicles and Bloodclaws into his gun drones. Got the draw on basic points, kill points got me the match.

Even without the win, watching my opponent's face as each scummy Tau unit proved too cowardly to overwatch made my day.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

After a bit of thought, I think My best game was a 5e nids' vs Blood Angels. I don't recall the whole list, but it had one Baal flamer predator, 2 Vindie and a landraider loaded with Death company. It was a very close game at the end thanks to a brood of stealers that refused to die and spent 4 rounds chasing the vindie around the board.

Final round came down to one stealer facing of against the demolisher cannon at max charge range. Vindie fired hit, and rolled a 1 to wound. On my turn, stealer charges the exact distance to the Vindie, scores 2 hits, 2 rends and 2 explodes. Probably the greats win by a stealer I have every had.

I've had a few moments of glory, not really any cheaters being called out. Guys in my area are pretty good about that.

Back in 6th right after the Deldar book dropped, and I'm on the ropes. The Archon and a pair of Incubi are about to charge a pair of tactical marines on an objective.

He charges. I fire Overwatch. Three hits. Three wounds.

I'm not holding out much hope - Shadowfield is a bitch, after all.

Turns out I was mentally moping a bit early, as he fails the first save he takes, and since he elected to take them on the chin with his Shadowfield, he dies horribly. The Incubi fails the charge, undoubtedly bickering over who would become the new Archon.

I managed to pull out a comeback, after that, no doubt the despicable Xenos were disheartened after such a loss. 'Twas Glorious!

Another game, a lone Veteran Sergeant was charged by a Nurgle Bike Lord, right after the sixth book dropped.

The Sorceror whiffs spectacularly, while the sergeant replies with two hits, and pulls double sixes for wounding with his chainsword. The despicable traitor dies screaming as not even the putrid gifts of nurgle can save him.

Finally, during fifth, again, a lone veteran sergeant, his men dead around him from the savage depravity of the Kroot, stands prepared to defend their gene seed from them Alien's predations. A Horde of twenty charge him, at the fire one of their pathetic shapers. But the Marine had faith in both the Emperor and his power armour.

Blows from crude knives bounce off his adamantium plating as his chainsword carves a trio of Kroot into a so many dismembered limbs. His fury frightened the Xenos, for they turned and fled from his might.

Those whom were not slaughtered as they ran were scattered to the four winds, worthless for the rest of battle. And while the Ultramarines were forced to pull back, the Veteran Sergeant would see his battle brothers bodies loaded onto the Thundehawk before he would rest.

Not so much a moment of bringing down a jerk, my area is very clear of those in my experience, but a moment of total underdog punching way way over her weight.

Playing an Apocalypse game, 7500 points of Sisters (with friends from the Scions and a couple of Knights) vs Eldar. There is a Revenant Titan kicking around and making my life difficult. It was not the super D spam one, it was the version with the Hellstorm templates, heck, it kills Sisters on 2+ anyway, so it was more or less the same.

Anyway, I'm plinking at it with Exorcists, or various shots, hurting it some, but it is so darn fast that I can't finish it off. And then walks up Unnamed Seraphim Superior with her melta bomb, and she is just done with this Revenant. Quite literally sticks the melta bomb up its tailpipe and smokes it. Survives the explosion too. I daresay she didn't even look at the explosion.

MANCHESTER

I've got a few from when I played as a child but having started again recently I've been playing small points games and was playing as Ultramarines against space wolves. Having no real armour on the table apart from rhinos for my tac squads his single twin las predator sat in his DZ proceeded to blow up all but one of my rhinos with repeated, straight penetrative hits and explodes results and the space wolves came in close behind to take out the disembarked troops. He laughed the entire game at my terrible shooting which had put me on course to draw. I only managed to stay in contention with some awe inspired rolling in assault to hold my own against the SWs.
Fourth turn comes round. My last remaining Rhino rolls up on side armour of the pain in the backside Pred. Out jumps my tac squad with melta... "hello" I say, "melta range!". The Pred blows up, kills 2 of the 5 man squad sat on his back field objective and what does he do when it comes to his turn? Rolls for AND FAILS his Assault but loses another 2 in overwatch. Lucky for me it goes to turn 5 and I move in and blast him off the objective and my assault terminators finally take out the wolf lord who's been on one wound for 3 turns now. With slay the warlord and that last objective take I win.
Smiled for days...

I've never been so shocked after seeing six after six after six being rolled in shooting at armour. By the end of the game only my Rhino remained of the 7 vehicles starting the game.

Another such moment, this time my personal experience, also was not against a bad or cheating player, more just an epic unexpected victory against mounted odds

In a tournament at my FLGS , I was playing Grey Knights with my Space Wolves. Both our lists pretty balanced, however I usually struggle with GK in the last due to their force/ AP3 weaponry , nasty characters and Dreadknight shinnanniganz !

So anyway, his Dreadknight who is kitted out, sees my Wolf Lord on Thunder Wolf with his 3 escort thunder wolves running up the board and figures its time for a Warlord Kill !

He makes the charge , and the combat begins. Fortunately for me, my Wolf Lord is kitted out with the Fangsword of the Ice Word (If i recall correctly, its the one with Hellfrost, +1S and a good AP ) , and is also I5 so striking first !

I roll my hits, 1 hit, roll my wounds , miraculously 1 wound !!

He rolls a 1. Fine , takes 1 wound.

Rolls for the Hellfrost special rule (Toughness test or removed from play ).

Rolls a 6.

This glorious Dreadknight had run straight into my wolf lords sword , did get to do a single thing, and got removed from play.

He is a pretty nice guy, but I wont lie it made me a little too happy.

Out of my Mind

3 Stories:
1- Right when the current Dex released, I was in a hurry to get down to a 1500 pt event (Not tourney) that I wasn't paying attention and grabbed one of my other armies cases and not both of my Necron cases. I had received complaints about running my Crons, so I had a fiun list, but didn't have any of the units I needed to do it. So I ran 100 Necron Warriors and Nemesor Zahndrekh. Not a single complaint about how unbalanced Wraiths were that day.

2- Visited a friend and hung out at a store and there was this SW player looking for a Game, but no one would play him. He was running the Outflank formation which was done surprisingly well and pretty effective. I told him I'd play him with my Orks. He looked down and then gave me this lecture for about 15 min on what he was doing, why people don't like it, and that he didn't want me to 'Feel Bad'. 'I play Orks' was the answer to any question he had.

So I dropped 18 Kans and 120 Grots on the table and run them up to the middle, and put them in a 'Covered Wagon' setup. His 2nd turn took about 30 min of him rolling/re-rolling reserves, the rolling/re-rolling his Outflank to get specific units to specific sides of the board where he thought they would do the most good. Only when he got to shooting, did he realize that he was shooting the Front/side armor of any vehicle unit he shot at, making all of his Bolter fire useless, and his AT wouldn't slow down the Kans. He had one Lone Wolf on the start of his T3.

3- (My favorite, 6th Ed, old Dex). My second game against a powerful Demonette army with Hammer n Anvil Deployment. I completely forgot about the bonus run move, and he got the 2+ Invul. Bonus for the turn. He literally had the best setup on his first turn because I didn't deploy right and there was no way I was not going to get my tail handed to me on his T2, with the Demonettes so close, and the Cannons there to give their bonus.

So I did the only thing I could do. I sped the process up and charged him on Turn 1. The 3 Units of Warriors hit 3 Different units of Demonettes, The Immortals hit his Plague Bearers, and Wraiths managed to hit one of his Cannons. Everything was now in Combat. Fortune favored the bold that day. I accepted the challenge, and his lead Demonette got Mindshackled, then managed to kill herself (with the 2+inv). That took the 'banner of ungodly attacks' out before the rest of the Demonettes got to swing, letting me win that combat.

With everything in combat, his last cannon had nothing to shoot, his reserves came in and had nothing to do either. We bogged down for 3 more grueling rounds on CC and I came out on top. Everyone was surprised, but no one was more surprised than me. I didn't get a shot off until T5.

Honorable Mention Just last week, I was playing with my Orks, and my Warlord rolled double '1's with his SAG with the first shot of the game. There should be an award for giving up 'First Blood', 'Slay the Warlord', with the added note that he got a Blood Tithe point for being a KDK player before his first turn.

Maine

I think my finest moment of all was when I played against a Marine player (All primed black, allowing him to be whatever Marines he wanted to suite his needs). He isn't a horrible guy, but he wears his britches a little too high.

I was new to 40k and played Orks. I was playing a Green Tide list with a Weirdboy added into the tide, using the Ork powers. I also had a few other things like Kanz and some Gretchen for back holding, but not at all an optimized Tide/army by any means.

He tailored to try to sit back and just shoot at me from his back field with tanks, cents and the like. He also set up the table with very little terrain in the center of the board. He also fielded a defense line, for some reason.

Anyway, he was acting a little smarmy about the whole thing, saying he was going to have fun killing so many Orks. Well, I got ridiculously lucky. I had rolled not only Da Jump, but also the power to give +1 attack to the unit.

He gets first turn, fires off with his tanks, but surprisingly rolls kinda poorly and only killed a few boyz. My first turn I scoot but mob up 6 inches. Psychic Phase, I pull off Da Jump. Due to the sheer lack of terrain near his line (For better shooting gallery-ness) I was able to drop in the entire Tide right in front of his gun line.

I have the Boyz unload their pistols into the closest squad, and through sheer volume, kill squad of Tacs with flamers. His second turn, he panics and begins to unload everything he can from his tanks, cents and remaining squads of marines. Manages to deal more damage than the turn before, but I'm still sitting at 70+ boyz, not to mention the Nobs with Klaws.

My turn rolls around. He had no where to run. I move up and during the psychic phase, I roll manifest the +1 attack power, he fails to deny. I charge his cents and he instantly gives up on turn 2 as he knows that once I murdered his Cents, I'd just consolidate closer to the nearest unit to continue my rampage, with him having no reliable way to end the unit.

Nothing like 'planet bowling ball' being so advantageous to a rather stupid tactic such as DS-ing a massive blob.

This is honestly one of the best things about the superheavies, IMO.

During that 100th store event day, we had a 2v2 game. The only army I brought that "made sense" to be on the "bad guys" side, were my knights.... So, a deff dread and one of my knights charge another knight.... I take it down a couple hull points, the Deff Dread blows it up, it scatters, blowing up my knight with a 6, which scatters and blows up my second knight with a 6 (it was locked in CC with some infantry.... none of the infantry were harmed, miraculously)

One of the greatest moments in the game for me was when a friend and I decided we were gonna play a game of "bighammer". He wanted to bring his 3-IK list, and I wanted to play my 30k mechanicum with 1 IK and a lot of medium sized robots.

around turn 3, he had lost most of his (40k) skiitari contingent, and I had lost most of my army, couple of beaten up squads and my knight left. A bad stomp had ended the big melee in the center of the board instagibbing two Castellax and nearly everything was bunched in the center.

My knight charged in with 2 HP left, but managed to take down his only knight with more than half its HP as he went down. We rolled the nastiest result on both the super-explosions, which detonated both of the other knights. Those explosions also went supernova, and scattered wildly.

When the dust settled, every. single. model on the board was dead, friend and foe.

We decided both techpriests sitting there in orbit looked up from their screens, stared at each other awkwardly for a long minute, and just flew away in silence.

This is why superheavy rules are just silly.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
