Hmm 65€ (with free shipping) for 12-month subscription, sounds good
I've always been a White Dwarf reader ever since issue 249 I think, immediately hooked me into 40k ^^
I even continued my subscription when White dwarf weekly/warhammer visions came out, but after few months I had to cancel.. I hated the price of the weekly magazine & the size of the monthly one(and the french/german translations, I mean wtf O_o).. Been buying single issues every now and then.
Hopefully this new format will bring back the magazine we all like to read

Where are you guys finding the 3 month subscription?
I'm interested but I don't want to jump right into the 12 month and it's all I see on the US website.

I just moved all my old WD's from my old house into new house (my poor back...) and had a subscription in the past. With the new format they introduced, I quit subscribing as the magazine became an unreadable and uninspiring mess.
Now, with new GW management, and new vibes into online comms etc, I jumped aboard the WD ship again and bought the Year-sub for the € 65 deal. I am willing to give them a new chance, as the old WD's were always very enjoyable to read. The price is nothing to be sneered at either; € 5,40 including shipping per magazine is a great deal imho. And when it still is a unreadable mess, € 65 is not too much of a risk to take.
Looking forward to September!

The return of Painting Masterclasses is great. The old Eavy Metal ones were fantastic, and actually explained how to paint a model to a high standard, not just what colors to use like the current format that just shows 3 close up boxes of an area of the model with the base/wash/highlight colors.

Yeah, the old masterclass compliation book is fantastic, if we get more like that then I can't wait! Also very excited to see the return of (hopefully) full length, detailed Battle Reports. Yes, they're all over Youtube, but the professionally shot and written ones with fantastic models and terrain were always the highlight of old WDs for me.

The painting master classes were the reason I kept getting the monthly magazine even after the quality of the magazine went down hill. I have every monthly issue form 60 onwards (went digital at the end) but only 4 weeklies. I think that says something. I have got a one year subscription to the new mag. (14000 yen or £103 at current exchange rates. And the say the Aussies have it bad!) I am really looking forward to getting my hands on it.

Hopefully they will include maps of the table so I can understand what was going on. I had a really hard time following the newer style of battle reports where it was just photos and text.

I suspect you'd need to order it via your relevant digital platform, not via the physical subscription page? If it's not up for pre order, then I'd guess probably not.

I'm in for a years subscription. Not only does it save me $27 and 12 trips to the LGS, but if the rumors are true that the first 4 issues come with freebies, they'll sell out at the LGS before I get my hands on them.
Not to mention all the times I've gone to the LGS on the release date to get the White Dwarf and they won't have it until 3 days later because someone didn't put it on a truck fast enough. Then having to make a second trip only to find out they won't have it until next week because of another shipping error. Topping it off with it being sold out when I make the 3rd attempt to pick it up.

It's 150 pages isn't it? That's longer than some codexes and only a slightly smaller page format, so 14 pages, assuming there'd be a lot of photos, doesn't seem unreasonable.
Except, you know, Natfka.

White Dwarf Weekly 131 quoted it at 156 pages. That is pretty darn big for the price. Assuming 10% is advertisements, it is still a lot of room for stuff. I am really looking forward to it. I hope they have a fair amount of Armies on Parade and exclusive rules. I wonder if that 156 pages includes the rumored Chaos Space Marines supplement or if that is separate. At any rate, if all of the issues are 150+ pages, I know I will be happy with my $80 investment.

Agreed about the current step-by-step panels in the current WD.
I love their Warhammer TV videos but the 3-4 panels that just tell you what paint they used remind me of How to Draw the Tick.

For being branded "best ever" I did expect something not seen before. Okay it's freebie so hardly reason to complain but again...It's not something not seen before AND it will leave all non-AOS fans not interested.
Again it's not bad in itself but for first new WD and being taunted as "best ever" I was expecting something more inventive. And something that would be usable by either game system players.
This feels like it would be more appropriate as 3rd or 4th freebie(if the rumour of first 4 having freebie). 1st something awesome not seen before type usable by either system that would really fit descriptiona as "best ever", then the cartoon freebie and then free miniatures for AOS and 40k. That's how I would do it. First something big to get fans buy first WD. This attracts fans of one subfaction of game that's not even biggest seller of GW. Very small target.
I'm not an AoS fan in particular, but I'm interested. Thanks for presuming that you can speak for me. As has been said, it's an awesome model in general, has use in 30k, 40k (simple conversions, both), WHFB, (and by extension, T9A), specific use in AoS, WQ: ST, Gorechosen. Mine will be used for several of those, plus my KoW army.

You claim AOS has more buyers than 40k?
Well okay guess it's not useless if you want to go to trouble of dumping it on ebay. Of course that's mostly helpful for brits. For those living say in Finland postage price makes it stupid for buyer to buy or you don't get any meaningful profit from it.
And I guess by extension, you think it should be a Space Marine in order to appeal to the broadest segment of GW's customer base. Sounds exciting.
Or howabout something, shock horror, usable in every game? Such a radical idea!
This is one model for specific army in specific game. Hardly "best ever". There's been plenty of freebie models before so would be nothing new there. What makes this one best ever? That it's AOS? Sheesh at AOS fanboys. Freebie is best ever simply on account of it being AOS model!
Again, ridiculously over-entitled wants for what is a freebie stuck to the front of a magazine. Also a needlessly complex nightmare in terms of logistics, and far, far more expensive for them to implement.
Not unheard though and that would actually be better...So there's been better freebie before yet you claim this is BEST FREEBIE EVER!
Can't figure why free model is better than free choise of model but ah well..
AOS fans!
Problem isn't freebie itself. Problem is it's being marketed as BEST FREEBIE EVER! When it's obviously not usable by majority of buyers and is obviously worse than what's been before.

Yet here's me looking forward to converting it for use with my 40k Nurgle themed traitor guard. I play neither AoS or Khorne.
Calling it worthless to the vast majority is presumptuous and silly.
Whether it's the "best ever" or not is quite simply a matter of opinion. Subjective opinion. Arguing over the notion is pointless.
Personally, I think it's a great looking miniature, and I'll find a use for it (either on the table or on a shelf).
Looking forward to the magazine as a whole.
Johnny's right though, the argument over the merits of the cover figure is going nowhere interesting.

Yeah. It was called Tale of Four Gamers before, and I loved it too. They started one of them in my first ever issue of white dwarf when I first got into wargaming.
I can't see it being the same - it was all about gaming on a budget (visiting store launches for discounts, kitbashing, that sort of thing). I'm expecting it to be more like the last attempt where it was just 4 of the WD crew buying and painting up new armies with critical thinking or discussion.

Iirc they've had...what, 3 of them?
First one was WFB - this was the £50 to start with then £25 a month - where there were a lot of conversions, visits to store openings etc. I remember this fondly cause at one point a Bacon sandwich counted as one of Paul Sawyer's purchases during the month.
Second one was also WFB - I think the budget idea was upped but points became more of a factor in this.
The third was 40k - no budget. All about points with an Apocalypse formation being the final goal in the last month.

Never said that or even insinuated it. I took issue with you attempting to speak for anyone but yourself - as opposed to the "vast majority" of players of GW games as you claimed. As has been repeated several times by several people, that model works as-is for several GW games - and takes very little conversion to work for 40k or even 30k.

I don't buy magazines hoping to make a profit from a cover mount freebie.
But you know what? You bothered to resort to ad hominem straw man arguments multiple times by calling me " AOS fan" and " AOS Fanboy" as well as saying that I have "claim(ed) that it's the best freebie ever" when I've said no such thing. So in light of those comments and your demeanor in general, I'm throwing you on ignore, because I don't have the time to waste. But mostly because of reds8n's red text.
