Funny that you say it makes more than one game when new magazine seems to have forgotten half the miniature games they release...

That's my frigging point. They have 2 miniature games. Yet WD is all over one of them with very little for the other.

Balance too much to ask for? Seems so.

Space Hulk has a new mission in which the BA must scupper a ship and recover data from a CAT, also with rules for the Stealers moving across/hiding in ventilation shafts which can be added to any mission.

Quest gets Grombrindal and Slaughterpriest rules.

And for the sake of completeness, the other box game features are:

- New Deathwatch profiles for DWOK
- Alternative force setups for the BaC missions
- Terminators in Lost Patrol
- Demons in Assassinorium
- Skarr and Valkia in Gorechosen
- Corvus Blackstar in Stormcloud Attack

You're acting like you've never read an imbalanced WD before. It happened all the time back in the day. Just don't buy the issues that don't interest you. It is not a big deal, and certainly not worth complaining about.

They also happen to have released a significant amount of board games in the last year and a half, and every single one of them has content in the new issue. Pretty sure that means they have something other than being all over one and not the other, but I might be wrong

I hope this stuff makes it into compendium packs at some point. I like the sound of most of that, but don't currently play any of those games (I'll buy them all when minime is old enough to get into gaming).

Too be fair to the guy, that's all he has said he's going to do, he's seen the contents of issue one and decided to skip it. Fair enough really isn't it?

I think it's the incessant bleating that's the issue.
Looking forward to this Friday, will be picking up my copy!

My copy arrived this morning. It's fine. I'm neither impressed nor underwhelmed. I was hoping to be wowed, but wasn't.

Same here, got mine today. Good quality paper, though some of the photos seem a bit dark. Plenty of content in terms of games covered, though nothing in depth - just one or two pages for most of them. Another example, the Tale of 4 gamers thing, each guy has one page with 2 or 3 paragraphs of large letter text plus a photo. I don't expect a Shakespearean effort, but it seems "light". Still, got the free mini, which was the main reason for getting it, hope you enjoy your copy.

Well, I guess, if nothing else, I can offload the Slaughter Priest on eBay and make a few bucks. I was hoping for more to do with Deathwatch Overkill than just four marine profiles. That is a shame.

I think that sums it up perfectly. They have tried to make it look like the golden age of the mag, but without the depth of content to deliver the quality that made it what it was. It feels like a bigger version of the weekly mag still. Hopefully that will change once they get into it and the new editor is settled in place.

He's said a lot more. He hasn't abated from the endless and rather childish bitching and AoS-bashing for over a month in this thread, including about how the free miniature offends him because it's "useless' (apparently he lacks the creative means to glue a backpack and pistol onto it - or he's trolling - and badly) and why it's a bad thing that he can't even make a profit from the freebie cover mount(!) If it was that one post it'd be a different story. Click "filter thread" under his name for context.

Just got my copy. It's HEAVY. It's a nice non-glossy stock that makes the photography pop, especially on the gatefold of the huge triple-Titan Eldar army. And the photography is bloody lovely.

All-in-all, it's pretty much monthly White Dwarf and as I expected, with the main change from days of yore that 'hobby content' is limited to conversions and painting guides, vs 'make Ork huts from Pringles tubes'. Will be interesting to see how that content does or does not develop.

There's lots of 40K material, so ignore the ALL AOS cries. But ultimately it's a pretty mag to try and get you to buy Gee Dubs toys, so if that puts you off don't buy.

Free dude looks nice. Will have fun 40K-ifying him, or maybe making him a Necromunda leader.

All in all, happy with issue 1, lots left to read. YMMV.

Complaining about "too many articles" is the new "too many advertisements" ?

I play zero GW games outside of 40K and Blood Bowl, and I'm still excited about the content of this issue, because, simply put, it is content.

The tale of 4 Warlords I take it is about 4 guys building their collections, but what game ?

Still waiting for my subscription to arrive.

I'm really pleased with mine, everything I wanted really, loads of content, and even the things I'm not interested in were worth a read (the Imperial Knight stuff)

Free mini is a bonus, not a chaos player but will be cool to paint.

I'm very excited to get mine after seeing the TOC posted. I think my last issue of WD was the first issue after the switched off the big square spines. I saw the email about bringing back a proper format and the free mini, and it was enough to sucker me in. Free model looks like a good time, too!

Anything that makes Gorechosen seem like a decent experience instead of just saving money on some Khorne dudes? Gameplay examples or a rules preview?

And does anyone know about the German launch date, website says 2.9., but subscriptions are supposedly delivered later rather than earlier? I'm itching to buy a second copy to give to my nephews (and pocketing the mini ), but I'd have to know the release date for sure, the news vendor won't reserve it more than a day.

Don't you mean The Hobbit?

My brother got his this morning and having a flick through it I have to admit it looks fairly decent.

A lot of content, while it seems to be word light and a lot of it isn't exactly stuff I'm massively interested in, as someone said in an earlier post, at least it is content. I do think they would be better having fewer articles of greater length, the articles I feel would be more useful that way. The pictures are good quality as well. It's good to see the battle report back, I would have preferred a 40k one to start with, but that's just a matter of personal preference with me not being a fan of Age of Sigmar.

All in all, it's a solid start. Let's hope it gets better as they settle into the monthly format again.

Got my copy today. The range of content is good but the articles are a little light and I hope for future editions they have more detail.

I think with this first issue, it's just a case of throwing some stuff out there and seeing what works. I imagine early on we'll get lots of short, light articles until they can see what goes down well and what people don't like so much (they're actively asking for feedback on the letters page, I believe), then they'll start expanding what's popular.

To be fair, regarding a slightly heavier nod to AoS in the new White Dwarf, the mag is basically a big catalog promoting their products...with a few articles to make it look like they are at least trying to give you some usable content for your $9 US. AoS isn't selling nearly as well as 40k, from what I understand...so trying to drum up more sales for AoS makes a lot of sense.
