Every once in a while I dump out all my bits, and start looking for something cool to convert up. Every once in a while I come up with a cool idea that is super-easy to convert, but the rules don't go that way.

One thing I'd love to see (I hope GW or FW is listening) is a Razorback variant that gives up all it's transport ability for the addition of two Hurricane bolter sponsons. I honestly think the vehicle looks good, and would be a low-pointed alternative to a Land Raider Crusader. More dakka than a Predator, but with far less protection and less anti-vehicle ability.

Does anyone else have one of those moments?

Well, not sure if it counts, but i'd build a warmonger class titan if it had 40k rules, although i dont think they will ever make rules for it lol.

I wish there were a few Ork vehicles that had were designed to be scratch built and had various options and rules that reflected your choices.

Likely would be too complicated to do but...would be cool of them to at least try.

Actually.... there are official rules. Or at least there were. GW had rules for a you-build-it Emperor Class titan with arms weapons, and carapace weapon options. The correct arms were there, as were the carapace cannon and defense laser. You'd have to "counts as" some mega bolters in place of the anti-aircraft guns, but it would work.

Leman russ annihilator with lascannon sponsons.

I'll second the ork vehicles. There used to be looted wagon rules to let you nick enemy vehicles.

I'd love a SM captain who was running around with a relic heavy bolter. Would be so cool.

Yes! Same for chaos lords. I love the idea of a leader carrying a massive gun around, picking off enemy characters (which is easier with their superior BS) and laughing maniacally.
Chaos used to have the kai gun, but it's no longer in the codex, I believe.

I have an answer to your problems linked in my signature.

It will allow you to make any vehicle or monstrous creature your heart desires and will be costed in an agreeable manner.

Give it a go, and have your opponents take a look as well. If everyone gets cool new stuff, it makes it easier to get them to play your cool new stuff

I actually have a ton of odd conversions from days gone by, each one was either legal at the time but not now, or was a cool use a bits that lost their rules with edition changes. Such as all of my Sisters of Battle with Power Fists (Eldar weapons where exactly the right size!), or my Imperial Guard tanks with tires instead of tracks (old Citadel Journal article). I even have Rhinos converted to look like Land Raiders, from back when the MkI Land Raider was out of production, but the MkIII Land Raider wasn't even a rumor.

These days for me its all about magnetizing to maximize options, so I can stop losing shelf space to short lived conversions. Which helped out big time when my GK went through massive changes over three editions on which melee weapons were worth taking.

1. Reaver with 3 quake cannons (apparently there was a version that had it long long ago in epic or something). I want a Juggernaut from C&C Tiberium....

2. Giant Mega tank the size of a Titan. Like a battleship on treads.

3. Ordinatus Majoris (whatever the plural is for them). With the super sized Sonic Disruptor, and all the other super guns they could have.

4. A lot of my conversions I would love to have crazy rules for. But they usually run as normal units from IG or something.

I'm going to be the curmudgeon and talk about yesteryear.

Tyranids had the awesome conversion parts in the kits to mutate your models. Enhanced senses on a Carnifex is antennae and it gave +1 BS. Add some armor plating and it was Extended Carapace for a better Armor Save. Go more extensive and you had Bonded Carapace for extra Toughness. It was so awesome seeing those conversions because while a few were in the boxes, others had to be done from scratch.. It was an awesome way to support conversions in Nids.

Tau Fire Warriors with special weapons would be really nice. I mean, if Pathfinders can take them, and most races' basic troops can take special weapons of some kind, why can't Fire Warriors, troops of a race known for their adaptability on the battlefield?

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):

I want a Razorback with the Grav Cannon/Grav Amp turret from the Space Marine Command Tanks and Razorback with a Twin-LinkedIn Helfrost Cannon. The models exist, just make rules. I agree with the OP, a Hurricane Bolter Sponson Predator would be cool. I wouldn't mind that being an option for the Baal Predator.

I also wouldn't mind being able to use the different Predator Sponsons on a Stormraven. Lascannons or Heavy Bolterstuff would be more useful for Anti-Air (if Stormravens can even do that anymore).

One popular conversion I see crop up a lot before the Necron's Retcon in 5th edition was the "Wraith Lord". Namely a Necron Destroyer Lord that had the Wraith's tail and (occasionally) massive shoulder blades. Clawed hands were optional but most of them had a Warscythe.

Really wish they had this as an option rather than make Wraiths into Canoptek units.

Currently I'm looking for the parts to make my own, and using the rules for the Canoptek Spyder for it (so that he would "lead" the Canoptek formation)

I have a scratch built imperial Leviathan mobile command centre that is about 14 inches tall and has been used under the old vehicle design rules in apocalypse from time to time.

If I were still playing games like that I'd probably finish up some of the other squat super heavies from EPIC 2nd edition (a land train would be fun to make).

The rules:
1) Style over Substance.
2) Attitude is Everything.
3) Always take it to the Edge.
4) Break the Rules.

Definitely would like to see relic heavy weapons for SM captains. I'm currently converting the cast of DoW2 into Tabletop guys, and have made some house rules for a blood raven's codex to represent them for now, but I've never understood why all Marine captains and chapter masters, no matter what chapter they're from or their preference in tactics, has to hit things with swords and hammers to be effective.

Give us heavy bolters for commanders!

These were originally converted to be Saim-Hann WraithKnights (and had 2 cannons underslung) but then GW made WKs into LoW GCs, which made me not as comfortable using them as WKs.
Now I use GK DreadKnight rules for them, with the fluff that they are experimental Anti-Daemon Wraith-constructs.

But having rules for an Eldar Jetbike Monstrous Creature would be pretty sweet.

A military commander's job is to direct the flow of the battle, not to participate in the battle. The commander's sidearm is for self defense when they have failed as a leader. Space Marine HQs firing their range weapons in combat exemplifies how bad they are as leaders, and way they fail so hard at their job.
