...wearing Bruce Jenner's gold medal. It's been 40 years since Bruce won that medal in the Decathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
With all of our discussions here about transgenders, I'm curious what people think of this.
I'm confused to be honest. Why put yourself out there like that?

IDC. Honestly. Her medal to do with as she pleases. Her body to do with as she pleases.
My issues with Caitlyn Jenner have nothing to do with her transgenderism.

Why not put herself out there like that? She's allowed to be proud of her past accomplishments. And isn't she supposed to be a leader of the transgender community, at least as far as celebrity goes?

She won an olympic medal. She's on the cover of Sport's illustrated. She's the most prominent transgender sportsperson in the world.
Using her old name twice seems really bait-y, poor form.

Because it's still his/her medal. Even if she has boobs now, he still earned that medal, so it's hers to do with as she pleases.

Money, ratings, controversy. Her family thrives on it, it's the only reason they're still relevant. Automatically Appended Next Post:

I would not go as far as to call her a leader. There are many within the community who do not feel comfortable with the way she represents the community as a whole, partly because she has been quite flip floppy on her desire to be operated on.

That's why I qualified it with the "as far as celebrity goes" part. I could have been more clear, for sure. I don't consider her to be a great role model personally (or much of one at all), but I get the feeling people believe she's supposed to be, simply because she's famous and doing (currently) a controversial thing (being super public about being transgender).

She still did it.
Look at it this way: Should she have things taken away that she qualified for before transitioning?
Exam results? Driving license?
Then why should she throw off something because it is a bit more public?

I find it disingenuous. You don't want to be known by that name or live that life, but you want to be celebrated for what you were. Doesn't make sense to me. That's all. It's not good or bad. It just IS.

This is like saying if a random, non-transgender person changes his/her name to Frank Sinatra, that they would have to take an AIDS test, or re-register their drivers license because it expired 1979. A name is a name. Once a person is born, they cannot change themselves. They can change the way they look sure, but if a male such as myself changes his name to Frank, or Tony, or Lisa, or Megan, it does not mean that all achievements accomplished in the 'previous name' are rendered null and void. I'll put this out there:
Trans people do not all disown their past. It's not like in Hollywood films.
Many do, many more don't.
Some embrace who they were. Some don't.
And nobody else gets to tell them if that's okay.

If it seems "disingenuous", that is due to your expectation of what a transgender person is.
That they must suddenly cut all ties from their previous life, perhaps. That isn't always the case, and it's not up to you or anyone to decide if they will.
If she had won an academic prize, would anyone say that she no longer deserves to be proud of it?

Not at all, but then she can't get on the cover of Der Geek and claim its a medal in a women's event. She especially can;'t come back 40 years later after having done nothing since, and claim the cover like she did something lately.
Plus this is the Jenner family-pure publicity. The US needs to inter the entire family on a deserted island for harming the USA's collective IQ.

That they must suddenly cut all ties from their previous life, perhaps. That isn't always the case, and it's not up to you or anyone to decide if they will.
If she had won an academic prize, would anyone say that she no longer deserves to be proud of it?
If you want to be known as a woman, how does make sense to say "Look what I did when I was a man!!!!"
As I said, it's not right nor wrong. I'm not looking to defend her or denounce her. I find it very strange, though. That's all. Live and let live. Doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about it. Especially if it's plastered all over a national magazine.

Flailing on the beach like a beached whale. While also wearing fashionable panties.

Because...its a sports magazine. If you are going to show women with awards it should be women who competed in womens' events. It takes away from women athletes. For example: If Dale Earnhart changed his name to Darlene, he still couldn't claim he was the first woman to win blah blah number of races or whatever. That is what we call...fraud. Two words: Cheap Stunt Okay, les get this straight. Female gets up one morning; -Huh, I want to do something with my life, I'll go for a jog. Female comes back from jog; -Huh, that was nice. I'll do that everyday! Female continues routine everyday, one day, she feels compelled to do something bigger. Goes competes in a local race; wins. -Huh, that was nice, I want to do that every year! Female continues winning races year after year, one day, she feels compelled to do something bigger. Goes and joins the Olympic running team. Spends the next 5 years of her life training. After two Olympic games pass, she decides that she will join the next one; her running team coach allows her. She runs in the Olympics, wins gold and comes back proud. -Huh, that was nice, but I do not like how I am, I'll change that. Female changes gender. Male loses all amounts of pride that the Female (HE) had earned. Has to restart life anew and try doing something else. Is that what you're trying to say? Just because ones gender and name does not match up with the achievements, that they are not worthy to hold said achievements?

TheEyeOfNight I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes.
Tactical_Spam Vanden clearly loves making sweet sweet love to his school. He is the most passionate, learning oriented individual you will ever meet.
War Kitten You should ask nicely before hitting people with your stick Vanden. We're a polite society after all.
2BlackJack1 Snow is great though. Snowmen, snowball fights, frostbite, snow forts, what's not to love?
Kharne the Befriender It's just the smug look of eternal irony while you wait for Creed to pull out his Baneblade so you can steal it.
War Kitten I love how this has gone from a deathly serious war to a discussion about how Vanden is secretly a whale wearing panties. Welcome to the Crusade of Fury.
Irishpeacockz Well this crusade will be endless then as I imagine Vandan has a large collection of inflatables lying around
