Here's a picture of the first two sergeants (Decurions) I finished for the Crimson Minotaurs army I am building.
The Crimson Minotaurs chapter is my own creation, I wanted to build a Roman themed Space Marines chapter and based it on some of the Minotaurs models. However the Minotaurs color weren't exactly to my liking; too much gold. And so I decided on using red and dark-greys to supplement the gold. Since I use the Blood Angels rules this works quite well. These two decurions (Romulus and Remus) use quite a lot of third-party bits, most of them from Anvil industries, such as the shoulderpads, cloaks, crests and shields.

And some more pictures of other models which have already been finished.

Thats a great looking colour scheme, but the cloak I feel should be a different colour. It just becomes a sea of red and detracts from the model.

I have spread my dreams under your feet;

Those marines are beautiful looking and very unique in a good way. I agree about the cloak, I feel it should be a different color too.

Thanks a lot guys. I am currently painting a Chaplain with a black cloak, just to see how it turns out. On the tabletop the red cloaks are fine btw.

Here's the Dread I finished this weekend.

I use Valejo shining gold followed by a drybrush of light metal and ten several inks/washes.

This particulair one is from Joefix, which I believe is a small Belgian company. They also have tufts with little yellow flowers which are quite nice, altough my ork bikers got the last of these

Interesting take...I appreciate the maze on the Dread's shoulder pad etc. Not overly keen on your sergeants (a bit too leapy/screamy) but the overall composition of the force must look really good on the table!

They look great and I like the background you used for motivation. Painting looks great, and some good converting! I just have to say...Romans with round shields? (I know, a lot of the light troops did, but...)Anyway, those shields do look great, especially the detail laurels and such.

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Have you experimented with deep purples or beiges for the cloaks? Either of those would be suitably 'Roman' providing they look good.

That's what I thought as well. But the large rectangular shields (scutum) looks weird on a jump marine. Hence the round shield of the light troops. I tend to call their sergeants decurion btw, after the Roman rank for cavalry Sergeants. The assault marines on foot will get 30k Siege Breacher shields which allows me to create a shieldwall.

These look really good. You described the colour scheme as "red and dark-greys to supplement the gold", but in these pictures the dark colour looks to me like a heavily-highlighted black. It's a good look, though. Would you mind sharing the paint recipe?

The shoulderpads are a mix of black and german grey. Then highlighted in three stages with a wash for some shadows. For the red I use more steps. After a base of Mephiston red I go from Valejjo Flat red to Scarlet, then use a Transparent red ink and do some more highlights with bright orange and a mix of scarlett and ivory. Doesn't really show on the pics though, cause they are made with my phone's camera.

Here are some more reinforcements. First up are two new assault marines, one with a flamer and his buddy with a Poweraxe. Picture turned out a bit orangy, but they are as red as the other ones.

Accompanying the unit is my first HQ, a Chaplain with a jump pack. This character can also double as Chaplain Ivanus Enkomi of the Minotaurs. Even though he is normally not allowed in a Blood Angels army my gaming-group condones it. He is not as usefull however as he would have been in a Space Marine army. The Crozius is from Enkomi. Then I used Asterion Moloc's massive cloak. Black looks kinda nice for this Chaplain but for the regular guys I'll stay with red cloaks .

One quick question...why the Crimson Minotaurs...red?

Crimson because I didn't like the gold Minotaurs one bit. And since I wanted my marines to look Roman-ish red is far more suitable. On top of that I play them using the Blood Angels rules.

I'm just giving you a hard time. I can see a marine whispering to his buddy just prior to launch "All I'm sayin' is we're not really Crimson, are we? We're just red..."

I'm loving that drop pod, the chaplain looks completely BA too (get it, because blood angels and bad-arse) I'm funny, trust me!

Good stuff!

A well, guess I didn't flip the 'Off' switch of my sarcasm-detector yesterday .

The Drop pod has a base since I managed to drop it from a stairs after constructing and undercoating the model. I can tell you, a drop pod doesn't drop well. The bottom plate was shattered in many pieces and the hinges of three doors were broken off. Decided to glue it on a base in an oblique way and recreated the hinges of two of the doors from plastic and clay. One of the doors was cracked from the impact and thus I burried that one in a layer of clay and glued it shut.

Funny thing is I liked the base so much the next one I 've built also has a base .

Currently working on the assault-marines on foot who will sport big tower-shields (the scutum). From here onwards the look of my marines will get more and more Roman.

Was the drop pod one of the old resin ones? I've dropped various vehicles and never had anything shatter...

Base looks good anyways!

It was a resin one, but probably not an old one; I suspect it is a recast. I bought it with a big pile of bits some time ago. The doors were in one part instead of two with the plastic version and the resin is kinda brittle. I had planned to use it as a scenery piece (drop pod crashed into a ruined building), but when I started out on my BA army it suddenly became useful.

Nice work!!

Wow -- I've never heard of a recast drop pod. At the price the real ones cost, the recast ones would have to be super cheap, lol.

I really like the Roman Army theme..

So Sergeants are Centurions, Assault Sergeants are Decurions,

Captains are Tribunes?

Chapter Master is Legate?
