+++ The Unraveling Of Sepheris Secundus: Ordo Malleus vs Tzeentch Daemons Box Set +++
I have always enjoyed the idea of Box Sets that include two separate armies from a particularly fluffy section of the lore (eg. Battle of Macragge).
The main thing that draws me to the concept of a Box Set is that its like a really fluffy skirmish game that impresses but doesn't drag on.
Therefore, I decided to make my own fan-fic Dream Box Set! Ordo Malleus led by Torquemada Coteaz attempting to quash an incursion of Tzeentch Daemons on Sepheris Secundus, around 500 points a side, featuring heavily modified units with homebrew mega fluff. Eg:
Sepheris Secundus got more than what they bargained for when investigating ruins uncovered in the depths of Fathomsound Mine. Luckily, the interests of Inquisitor Lord Torquemada Coteaz enlivened his willingness to assist the unfortunate mining world.
At the moment, the above is what I have constructed and begun painting. I started these models in February and, generally, have a slow-burn work ethic.
Corteaz and his retinue (plus some help from the Barons of Sepheris Secundus) are on their way in the mail.
The reason for starting this project blog (and making a DakkaDakka account after lurking for so long) is to allow myself to take CC, record thoughts, and fluff about with an enthusiastic community.
So far so the Daemons are as follows...
+++ Ixtl'Xntil' th - Tzeentch Pact-Sworn +++
The silent and deliberate Ixtl is oft seen circling battlefields upon the Warp Gryphonne, Ahn'Llin. Surveying the carnage his constructs create throughout Sepheris Secundus. Only ever engaging in combat when a real challenge approaches.
Ahn'Llin - Bound Warp Gryphonne - A twin-headed griffon comprised of warp energy and clad in a relic mantle constructed by Ixtl. Each head has it's own personality and goals. Ahn is hot headed, often proposing frontal assaults and blitzkrieg tactics. Llin is cunning, known for setting up elaborate ambushes months in advance, accounting for every possibility. Needless to say, the two bicker and row over how best to serve their dispassionate master. In hopes that they may be granted additional power over the other.
At the beginning of the Tzeentchian incursion the Warp Gryphonne manifested itself in the image of a sabre-tooth tiger. It wasn't until Coteaz made landfall that it took a likeness similar to the aquilla, a cunning mockery of the Imperial sigil formulated to stir Coteaz into responding rashly. Coteaz had the last laugh when his cyber eagle removed one Llin's eyes in an aerial skirmish above Icenholm.
+++ Eyatzzin - Demise Construct +++
An engine of desolation that was built by Ixtl in his own image, few could stand against the might of Eyatzzin. Entire households of Sepherii Terminator Knights met their doom at the claws, blades and warpfire of this diabolical construct. Sauntering through the battlefield, gracefully connecting every swipe, volley and lunge together seamlessly as it's visage remains expressionless.
So yeah, hit me with CC etc.
I'm especially keen to hear what people think of the DIY Box Set angle. Thoughts?
Automatically Appended Next Post:
I have been painting the griffon over the past few weeks, but decided yesterday to desaturate the image while there was still grey plastic present.
This is the colour scheme that will run throughout the Tzeentch Daemons force. A teal, magenta, amber triad.
Also, this model has been my first attempt at NMM.
(The original head is shown here)

+++ 2. Warp Gryphonne Paint Job +++
Tim the Biovore wrote:Would love to know the steps in achieving the celestial effect on the Warp Gryphonne too.
Hopefully this picture gives a better example.
While deciding how to paint this guy, I wanted to have a galaxy effect while also retaining the lines of the creatures body. I applied the chiaroscuro effect to achieve this, imagining there was a light source from above. Where ever the light would hit is where I painted nebula, in varying degrees to produce extreme highlights. Afterwards I went over with a fine brush and dotted all of the stars in separately (because the toothbrush flick method can be a bit too much), again, more so in places to achieve an extreme highlight.
Method:
Spray - GW Incubi Darkness
Sponge - VMC Royal Purple
Sponge - VMC Magenta
Detail Brush - Reaper Master Series Pure White
+++ 3. Sepherii Terminator Knights +++
Llamahead wrote:Intrigued by the background of the Terminator Knights I take it their not Astartes but something else?
According to the lore available on Sepheris Secundus the Crown has a personal force of 'Scourges' who enforce the harsh status quo. They're armed with lasguns and chainswords, contrasting with their "gaudy stained-glass-like" armour (stained glass being one of the planet's popular exports).
I've teased this out a bit... to the point of Sepheris Pattern Terminator Armour. Which isn't at all impossible considering how resource rich the planet is.
I imagine a stereotypical Italian suit maker, 100% more grim dark, with at least one mechadendrite. Whom travels around Sepheris, custom outfitting the sons of barons with ornate powered vestments before they are tithed to serve the crown in the Sepherii Terminator Knights Order. Each suit of armour will include the family's baronial crest. Which is a good segue into today's update!
I've bashed together something that sort of looks like a knight. But there is one issue which has been niggling away at me for the past day...
What in all of the Eye of Terror does stained-glass-like armour look like!?
Check out the mock ups I've done so far. I've trimmed the shin guards. Should I make an arch in there with styrene rod and then freehand? Should I entirely free hand the stained glass (a terrifying prospect)? or should I lose the stained glass idea and just go with 'gaudy'?
 *
I slapped this guy together to give another example. Still needa clean up flash, mold lines, etc.
 *
*The heads are placeholder for the time being.

Thanks again guys
You should all give that celestial effect a crack!
I think I've illustrated one of the simpler methods out there, some people go crazy with the amount of detail. It looks mad! but I don't have the patience for that haha
+++ 2. Quick Sepherii Terminator Knight Update +++
I've been getting a little distracted by Dark Souls 3 but have managed to spend a little time on the Sepherii Knights!
With Bretonnians getting Last-Chance-to-Buy'd by Games Workshop I thought I'd pay homage. Mainly by making use of some nifty Knights of the Realm and Empire heads.
I'm now contemplating writing fluff for each knight and their respective Baron/House or maybe opening up the forum for user submitted fluff (any takers? ).
Each knight has a slightly different armour design to reflect the different regions that they come from. Their 'bayonets' will hopefully all be unique as well, eg. glaive, bardiche, bec de corbin, scythe, awlpike, etc. That's gonna be fun to construct out of plasticard!
Unfortunately that's not a severed head, I still need to shell out the helmet under his arm

Maybe have a look at the jade armour from ancient china for inspiration. The Vitrian Dragoons had a similar style of armour might be worth looking at how that s been done. Cool conversion and interesting idea about the terminator armour.

Pinch away! Just don't upstage me
I haven't thought as far ahead as peripherals, but producing an authentic looking box with all of the extras would be the logical conclusion. It might be a thing way down the track!

Cheers guys
Sorry there's been a lull in posts this past week. I've come today with stuff to show!
+++ 2A. Sepherii Terminator Knights - The Crew +++
I managed to give the knights a lick of paint throughout the week and even attempted doing the stained glass on one of them. See the step-by-step below!
Each house of knights has it's own distinctly coloured armour panels. Fluff pending, but each Knightly House should be getting it's own back story
+++ 2B. Sepherii Terminator Knights - Stained Glass Armour Attempt #1 +++
This was a terrifying process. I haven't seen anybody else attempt this method before. So it was like navigating uncharted waters.
At the end of the day I don't hate the outcome, but I'm not entirely satisfied either. Next time I will definitely be attempting dot-work motifs (The Moon, the Sun, etc.).
I'd really like constructive criticism on this process. If anybody else has attempted something like this in the past, please speak up!
I apologise about the quality of some of these photos
1. After laying down a light base, I dot patterned with a few colours. Mostly the colour of the armour. It was hard to get through this first step because I wasn't convinced at all that it would turn out alright.
2. I then tried to bring the colours back towards the rest of the scheme with a sepia wash.
3. Next was the crackle medium, layered on thick. This was done in hopes that it would give a nice and chunky craze.
4. Followed by a black wash to bring the cracks out.
5. Finally a blue wash to bring it back to a colour similar to the armour.
What do you guys think? Is it passable as a stained glass panel?

I hope you're all having a good weekend!
Just a quick end-of-week update. A leader of sorts, local to Sepheris Secundus. A Baron from one of the feudal houses who has had enough of this daemon incursion, travelling to the front line to personally deal with the problem.
I've attempted to make his armour a score more 'gaudy' than his underling Knights. Mostly by adding as much space marine regalia gubbinz as I can
Enjoy!

It's been a while guys! Lets get down to business!
+++ 1. Replies +++
I wasn't aware of the distinction, but I suppose it's a bit of a happy accident.
+++ 2. A Change of Direction +++
I began this project because I thought its small scale would allow me to complete the project and then move on to other things. This was the plan until I sunk my teeth into the Inquisimunda/Necromunda rule books. 10 man warbands!? Best idea I've ever heard of! These allow me to toy with ideas before they become tired.
I've had this change of direction in mind for a while but wanted to complete something before revealing it. Too bad! I've got 5 projects going at once.... oops!
- The Sepherii Knights are to become their own Inquisimunda group, Likely adhering to the Inquisitor Warband list.
- I spoiled myself and ordered a bunch of Spyrers, intending to use the Hunting Rig Spyrers list.
- I really liked the idea of Arbites, so I threw together some bitz I had. They were heaps of fun to convert
- A friend gave me a second hand land raider for my birthday, I've since stripped it along with another land raider I've had for a decade. I plan on converting it into an NPC Macharius Vulcan. Look out PCs!
- Finally, there is also my Tzeentch Daemons which will add PvE elements as these warbands fight.
+++ 3. Arbites +++
The base models were catachans and stormcasts. There is also an original cyber-mastiff coming in the mail
+++ 4. Macharius Vulcan +++
Why such an OP NPC for a skirmish game? Well, I wanted an over arching 'good guy' that less than savoury warbands can go about trying to take down.
I've always loved the Macharius model, but hated the price tag. Hopefully this works out!
If anybody owns one of these radical tanks, can you please provide me with the overall measurements of it's size. I wanna try get it right and using reference images hasnt been the best way to go about it.
I also have plans to make an Atlas Recovery Vehicle to make sure she doesn't get bogged down in the underhive
+++ 5. Spyrers +++
All of my Spyrers are going to be ridiculous colours, I decided to start with Magenta and Turquoise.
I also have plans to convert a Matriarch and Patriarch, because I don't really feel like paying $500+ for a single mini

Managed to do more of the rear panels today. I'd be lying if I said I did get angry at inanimate objects today, plasticard is usually wonderful to work with, bit today it was quite finicky.
Additionally, I made an internal frame to hold it all together. Meaning it can now stand on it's own. My previous update had all the parts blutac'd and resting on things to stay up.
I can't wait to start gluing hundreds of rivets on this thing!
Here are a few photos of progress
