As a CSM player I am eagerly awaiting a new codex and I've been thinking about what new models I would like to see added by GW once they get over their hard-on for the corpse-emperors lackeys. Most (if not all) of the characters need new kits as do a couple of the plastic ones (terminators, I'm looking at you). Without further ado, here is my list, feel free to add yours and comment on mine and others hopes.


Bring all named characters into plastic.

Plastic Warpsmiths, Dark Apostles and Aspiring champions.

New Chaos Lord plastic kit.

New sorceror sans terminator armour plastic kit

New Thousand Sons plastic kit.

New Plague Marines plastic Kit.

New Khorne Berzerkers plastic kit (so you can give your guys the same weapons).

New Noise Marines plastic kit.

New Raptors/Warp Talons plastic kit.

Cultist kit of 10-15 unique cultists with weapons options.

New Possessed plastic kit.

New Havocs plastic kit with more weapons options.

Bring Oblits and Muties into plastic.



Basically bringing half the range into modern times.

Well, almost everything needs to be updated or made plastic basically.

But whats wrong with the raptor/warp talon kit? I quite like it, and i've used it to kit bash several Chaos Marines.

Personally, I much preferred the older Raptor style, the new ones just have too much stuff all over them and look like a CSM with a jump pack as opposed to the older Raptors that looks like a clearly evolved unique cult.

All of that and you forgot the basic CSM kit needing an overhaul to sharpen up their details, give them some better posess and add in a reasonable amount of weapons options?

Chaos Lord/Sorcerer in power armor in plastic, I love the Terminator kit and would love a similar design philosophy.

Non cartoony 'zerkers.

Also, the Raptor/Warp Talon kit is gorgeous.

we need something a-la the Dark Eldar:

- All Cult Troops get their own plastic kits.
- a basic CSM kit that comes with the option to make Chosen as a dual kit
- a Havocs kit
- A plastic Mutilator/Obliterator Combo kit. The set as-is already re-uses the legs and back torso, so it's no that much harder to make them a combo kit
- New Chaos Terminators. One that can at least make a basic squad of 5 with no options (Power Weapons, Combi-bolters) with some options (some combi-weapon options and a reaper autocannon. And some claws).
- New Defiler Kit. The current one still has the boxy aesthetic from 3.5 edition. The newer Daemon Engines are more rounded in appearance and the defiler sticks out like a sore thumb.
- Plastic Character Clampacks (I wish for a combo-kit but GW hasn't done anything like that for almost a decade now).
- Plastic multi-part Cultists. They need to come in boxes of 20.
- New Possessed kit in line with the new CSM kit (basically both should be in the aesthetic of DV)
- New Chaos Bikers.
- Legion Upgrade Packs. At least Black Legion, Word Bearers and Iron Warriors should get some. Night Lords and Alpha Legion are less prominent right now and the other four have the cult marines for their legion-ness.

Personally, I much preferred the older Raptor style, the new ones just have too much stuff all over them and look like a CSM with a jump pack as opposed to the older Raptors that looks like a clearly evolved unique cult.

Fair enough. I do enjoy the older 3.5 raptor kit as well because of it's sleek almost art deco style armour. I still love those jump packs, and I'm glad they payed homage to them with the Horus Heresy Emperor's Children a bit. However, I like how busy the new kits are.

One of the main draws for me aesthetically for chaos has always been how busy and baroque their armour is, and because there are so many loyalist marks of armour out there now I'd like to see chaos get more of the raptor/DV style armour.

I would like to see a new Rhino kit that isn't just the Imperial one with some spikes glued on. These are machines that have been warped by hell itself! Use some creativity.

Its not about the model i want to see. Its about the better codex I wanna see.

I would like them to update all finecast stuff to plastic but in terms of updating existing models I'd say give the cultist box more variety. Nothing like a horde of five guys and their clones!

Kits that are fine and/or can wait for the time being;

Plastic kits that desperately need overhauls;
1. Chaos Marines
- too many missing options, especially when it comes to the Champion's wargear... Give us a Combi-weapon please, since we don't even have a single one yet after only 15+ years of waiting!
But more importantly, the kit is badly showing its age, miscasts and/or bleeding details are annoyingly common, the models are all still in that old late 90's/early 2000's "squatting to take a gak" pose, and the armour makes no freaking sense!!
I mean, we have everyone wearing Mk.VI pants, and then mostly Mk.VII torsos & helmets?! WTF - why can't we have Marine armour that makes sense? Visually these guys are an absolute nonsensical mess.

2. Terminators
- They look fine sure, but I seriously doubt many people have ever tried building an actual squad from the kit... Only 3 combi-bolter/power weapons per box? So we can't even build a basic naked squad from the kit.
As for giving anyone any upgraded gear? Good luck with that, considering there's only 2x Power fist/Chainfist and 2 combi's. (one flamer + one melta) Oh, but wait! We get a ****ing tentacle arm!
Please GW, give us a proper ****ing kit for once... It's not like you can't do a jam packed Termie kit like what SW's, Deathwing & GK's especially have... oh wait, those are Loyalist kits, and we all know that Chaos can't have anything remotely on the level of Loyalists for fear of making us 'the same'.

3. Khorne Berserkers
- Uh, this kit is from 1999 for feth's sake, and it comes with 4 or 6 Plasma pistols, and 4 Chainaxes, and that's it for upgrades!
What a Champion? Too bad, go loot some Loyalist kits since they're the only Marines worthy of having options apparently... Goofiness of the models aside, not other kit outside of the basic Catachan/Cadian kit & Sisters are as lacking in options as the poor 'Zerkers.

4. Predator & Land Raider
- Again, it comes down to shifting us away from just being "Loyalists with Spikes!" and also giving us some proper and unique options of our own...
Give us those lovely Infernal Relic Predators, or at least a couple new weapon options such as Heavy flamer sponsons, etc... Likewise, if Loyalists can have a million or so Land Raider variants, than it's only fair that Chaos can get a second one with a bit more transport capacity, especially since we're supposed to be a predominantly assault oriented army!! (and yet, we have the single worst Land Raider variant, because... "screw Chaos" apparently.)
Oh, and give us back our ****ing Infernal Device rule GW!! Land Raiders are unplayable without PotMS/ID dammit!!


Kits that need actual plastics;
- Havocs
- Oblits/Mutilators
- Plaguemarines
- Noise Marines
*note: we know Thousand Sons are coming, so they get a pass here

For real. It feels like CSM Land Raiders and Predators are things they kind of grudgingly include anymore. I figured by now at least they would have some Chaos-specific Predator / LR variants but nah.

Plastic cult marines and new air superioty aircraft. Some chaos weapons sprue could be awesome too.

I'll add chosen to the list.

They should embrace the Legions again and make CSM sort of the 30k Space Marines in 40k. I don't mean directly importing the rules, but the models and rules should reflect that they're the same veterans from ten millenia ago.

Like, our land raider should be spartans. Predators should be Deimos Predators, and some daemonically possessed hover rhinos.

All the suggestions are great, but personally:

Khorne Lord on juggernaut (40k, not a fantasy version we do our best with)

Chosen on juggernauts/40k skullcrushers.

I repeat these answers whenever possible, just in case I can will them into existence.

Anyway. I'd love to see an updated base CSM kit and an updated chaos termie kit, along with some new possessed.

Clampacks for the major named characters would be nice too, but that's a bit lower priority. I really want to see updated Kharn and Lucius models though.

Also a Chosen kit a la Sternguard would be amazing; the conversion possibilities.

Lucius is technically "updated". In fact I think it was one of the newest character models so far (unless you count Kranon as a special character).

However I know what you mean. If the current CSM get overhauled to DV style, even lucius will need a new look.

Well, I'd like to see Chaos exodites like Chaos Knights, Marauders, and Monsters of Chaos.

Just as long we don't get literally Everything! under the sun done up with the amount of crazy mutation details, etc... that the DV Chosen have.

A new basic CSM kit should still after all keep them looking like 'basic' grunts. Some armour banding, the odd mutation bit, trophies, fleshy 'impurity seals', etc... are fine, but we should not have an entire model range of OTT hyper mutated monstrosities because... "Chaos!lol"

After all, Loyalists don't have their entire range detailed to the extent of Sternguard++.

Leave the 'uber bling for the Cult units, and the 'true' elites such as the Chosen & Termies. Chaos Marines, Havocs, Bikers should be akin to their relevant Loyalist unit in terms of their extra bling vs. Sterns/Vanguard, BA Termies, etc...

It's actually not that hard to paint.

The key thing for me is a new CSM basic troops kit, which needs to stay as a 10 kit with a mountain of options. I'd like to see the aesthetic of the DV CSM used to make them more baroque and characterful.

Having that could then allow sprues like the new SM chapter kits for plague marines, noise marines and 1ksons. They could do the same with the chosen, add in details to make them more impressive looking.

Havocs need a kit.

I'd be amazed to see any more multipose characters, they are all moving to monopose plastics now. I would expect to see a small range like the new harlequins characters - a sorcerer, a lord, etc in plastic.

Mutilators/oblits could clearly go into a combi kit with arms etc swappable.

I would like to see a broader daemon engine kit. A base torso with a big set of options.

Havocs need a plastic kit too but I imagine you could do an add on sprue with arms and heavy weapons. Need to get all the options like the SM devs.

I would like to see multipose cultists.

However, the longer things go on the more I despair. When DV came out I thought it was likely that they had remodelled the whole range and that the rest would appear in the fullness of time. This now looks unlikely and CSM are getting close to needing a DE style rework of the entire range.

I'd like to see kits of Chaos lords on each god's mount (so Lord on Juggernaut, Lord on Palanquin, Lord on Disc, Lord on Slaanesh Steed). Even monopose clampacks of those would be cool. Also, maybe a biker character (that can be a Lord or Sorceror kind of like the current Termie Lord kit, which is a nice kit BTW).

Weapons. New, unique weapons to the faction. I can live with many of the kits as they are, but I just want something that isn't stock standard weaponry for a change.

Ectoplasm guns and cannons. Kai guns. Conversion beamers. Or any of the unique weaponry from IA13, for that matter. Rather than heavy flamers, we get baleflamers. Whips and scourges for melee. All of these weapons already have precedent, just implement them as actual options. Even if it's all nothing more than nameswaps on existing weapon profiles, fine - just make them look warped and I'm happy.

But take it further. There's so much fun and freedom you can have with weapons. How about god-specific weapons? They could all have standard weapon profiles (flamer, assault cannon, lascannon, plasma, whatever). Taking a mark on the unit unlocks the upgrades to the standard weaponry for free. Plague spewers. Blood/skull cannons. A lance weapon that fires a concentrated beam of pure sorcery. A Slaanesh weapon that isn't exclusive to Noise Marines. But they all have that little bit extra oomph. Wound on a 6 and it forces a Ld test at -1, causes a Fear check even if Fearless, unit has to Snapshot on a failed Toughness test, whatever. Just make them something unique for a change.

This is the realm of Chaos. Logic and reason take a backseat to the whims of the Gods. So why is it that are standard arsenal's most exotic weapon is the autocannon? Do whatever you want with the model kits we have, but for goodness sake just include some interesting new weaponry when you do.

Most of the Loyalist power armour is very stripped down and plain. I'm not a fan of it but at least people can use that armour if they don't want OTT chaos marines.

Plastic, multipart Chaos Chosen kit.

Noise marines need a full sett like plague marines and more sonic weapon options for vehicles as well as more chaos specific weapons and vehicles like chaos fliers as well as more units for daemons instead of 3ish for each god they need more giant daemons like fw keeper of secrets

I wouldn't mind at all a new basic kit that keeps the level of bling that the current kit has, but done more in line with the DV style.
What I don't want, let alone think is even appropriate, is to have every last basic trooper, blinged out to the extent of the actual Chosen & characters!

Give us the level of bling that SW/GK/Raptors have on their kits for the likes of basic Chaos Marines & Havocs. Hell, it would be absolutely amazing to see a Havoc kit where the heavy weapons are actually mutating to become part of the actual Marine who wields them! (kinda like how Tyranid weapons naturally evolve out from the critter's arm, etc...)
Put the Cult units, new Termies (who for once come with actual options and not some stupid useless near-mono build BS), and Chosen as the fully blinged out, hyper detailed part of the line.

Otherwise, having an entire army of DV level Chosen will just look hideous and everything will just bleed together on the table.

Chaos ooze pools of doom.

Flat miniatures that have the poison, Slow and purposeful and the swarm special rule and split in half when they get a wound. I want them and I want them now. You could even give them those corrupting objectives rule.
