Yeah, but then I'd have to watch Fox News. Besides, I intend on spending the evening with the TV off and logged out of Dakka, some fine Bourbon, a Cuban cigar left over from a recent trip to Montreal and I'll look at the results in the early morning when it's over. Besides it's a beautiful fall day, the trees have turned and I'm very glad this nonsense is just about over.

If Mitt Romney had been on the opposite side of ballot this election...

Speaking of Joe Biden, he pretty much summed this election up with a comment he made during an interview earlier this year when he said, "Decision making in politics and government doesn't usually involve a choice between good or bad, it's usually between bad and worse."

Yup! President (and the accompanying vice president), various Congress critters up for election, local government officials, and so on and so forth.

I had three or four local types running unopposed on my ballot. Get out there and run for office, public representatives!

It Begins...

If you ask me, any state should get to extend polling hours if there are enough complaints from voters about long lines, etc.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/08/politics/voting-polls-irregularities-election-2016/index.html

Trump files Nevada voting lawsuit
In a sign that the legal team for the Trump campaign is aggressively laying the groundwork for potential legal challenges -- big and small -- lawyers have gone to state court in Nevada in an early vote dispute.

In legal briefs filed last night, Trump lawyers are asking for relief in case “the election of presidential electors from the State of Nevada is contested.”

They are suing Joe P. Gloria, the Clark County registrar of voters, over a decision they allege he made to keep polling locations open “two hours beyond the designated closing time.” The lawsuit targets polling places in the greater Las Vegas area that have larger minority voting precincts.

Dan Kulin, a spokesperson for the county, told CNN that no early voting stations extended their closing times. They did, however, process voters who were in line at closing time to allow as many people to vote as possible.

Trump lawyers are asking for an order to have the pertinent early vote ballots not to be “co-mingled or interspersed” with other ballots.

“From the polling, it appears that Nevada is so close that the Trump campaign thinks it’s worth challenging any violation in voting protocol. The numbers that came in could represent several thousand people across the four precincts, which could determine who wins the electoral college vote or change the Senate race,” said Robert Lang of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He said the Trump campaign is “smart to put a marker down for a future challenge, considering what happened in 2000 in Florida."

Officials with the Republican National Committee and Trump's campaign declined to further discuss their action with reporters on a conference call early Tuesday afternoon.

Nevada's Republican Party chairman, Michael McDonald, told a Trump audience in Reno on Saturday that polling locations in Clark County were kept open late so that a "certain group" could vote.

Clark County, which includes the suburbs of Las Vegas, has a large Hispanic population and could figure prominently in who wins the White House.

Correct.

A few state governor spots are up for re-election, along with US Senate seats, US Congress. Then there are local elections like state congresses, mayors, judges, etc. And there are local ordinances and referendums.

That's what's coming out of his mouth, but all I'm hearing is "the only way to get our guy elected to represent the people is if a bunch those people shut up, sit down, and don't vote".

If only people with at least 4 grandparents born in America were voting, Trump would win in a 50-state landslide.

In an astonishing coincidence, under the Nazi Nuremberg laws, only someone with four German grandparents could be considered German.

Oh Ann.. loyal to the last eh ?

It is possibly a wee bit awkward or rude here to mention that none of Trump's Grandparents were american so he wouldn't be able to vote.

or run.

Bless.

Two Florida election clerks fired
Two election clerks in Broward County, Florida, were fired Tuesday after “not working to the level of integrity they were trained to,” and were quickly replaced, Broward County Board of Elections spokeswoman Tonya Edwards told CNN.

Edwards said the clerks were not “adhering to procedures” but wouldn’t say what rules were being violated.

Broward County Sheriff’s deputies were requested and dispatched to the polling site, the Herb Skolnick Center in Pompano Beach.

Voting is back to normal at this polling place, Edwards said.

I think it's a good idea to vote for all these representatives at once, and not in several elections, it's saves time and money.

Are the ballots written in different laguages because there is no official language in the USA, or because there are big minorities in your country ? Doesn't it bother you that people not even speaking english can decide who lead your country ?

Topless protesters arrested at Trump's polling place
Donald Trump wasn’t scheduled to arrive at his polling place until late morning on Tuesday, but the public school in Manhattan was filled with commotion hours earlier as two women ripped off their shirts in protest.

Photos snapped by the New York Daily News show the women had written lewd slogans across their chests, which they exposed in the crowded gymnasium where Trump was to vote later in the day. Some of the messages scrawled across the womens’ bodies appeared to be a reaction to the leaked audiotape in which Trump boasts of his unwanted sexual advances.

According to the Daily News, the protest went on for about half a minute before the women were arrested.

You're not required to have specific standard of fluency in English to be a citizen or resident alien so you don't have to be fluent to vote. If they're eligible to vote they can vote and the make up of the ballot is done at the state level. My ballot was only in English, other ballots in other states can be in multiple languages if they feel the need to do so or are required by state law.

In a similar vein, here in NC convicted felons can vote if they've completed their sentence and are no longer on parole or probation. All they have to do is re-register and they can vote.

We generally vote every 2 years. The phrase mid-term elections, as they are called, are for the years between Presidential elections. The next one is 2018, for example.

Our US Senators are elected for 6 year terms. Roughly 1/3 get elected every 2 years.

Our House of Representatives are elected every 2 years.

Our governors, and most every other elected official is 4 years. About half are in Presidential election years, and the other half is in the mid-term elections.

Edit: As for language, so long as you're a citizen, through birth or emigration, you have the right to vote after you're 18. I don't care what language you speak. However, I personally feel that you should learn English when you move here. Where I to move to France, I'd fething learn French. But that's a topic for another day.

This may be difficult for you to understand, as you are French, and the French have a very strong national character and identity, but North America doesn't really have a culture or shared identity.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

It's funny that the representatives are mandated for only 2 years when the senators have a mandate of 6 years.

And I thought a presidential mandate of 5 years (in France) was short^^
