There is also concern that Prop 60 will also impact the "market" for the films themselves and force the industry to relocate someplace with even less regulation. I feel like we have heard those arguments before though.

We will have to see what happens.

Should they desire to move their industry, I have plenty of room in my basement, which can be decorated as "Office", "Bar", "Library", and a host of other locations.

So would you guys rather have a directly elected senate or an appointed one?

Also, if the Brexit issue over here has demonstrated anything, it's that the vote is only the beginning of the strife. I hope you guys can heal the wounds better than we have.

Donald Trump has sued the registrar of voters in Clark County, Nevada over a Las Vegas polling station that was reportedly allowed to remain open late last week.

Nevada state law says voters who are in line at 8pm, when the polls close, must be allowed to cast their ballots.

The lawsuit said election officials violated state law because they allowed people to join the line after 8pm at a polling location at a Latino market.

I think the question is whether the officials continued to allow people to get in line AFTER the closing time.

Even so... how on earth could that be proven?

Very strange...

Don't know if it's been addressed in the few pages since, but... as the article posted was from CNN, and I happen to have CNN on right now, they were talking about this very thing....

Basically speaking, some states, and apparently Nevada is one of them, they have laws or rules in place for voting that state that if people are in line, waiting before the closing time, then someone has to mark that last person, and they keep the poll location open until that final person goes through.

I think Prop 65 and 67 are not well thought out and are likely to cause more problems then it solves so I would vote No to both.

I saw it, but didn't think much of it (along with the other tax related props) since I wouldn't think there would be much controversy about it. Smoking is already expensive both in real terms and cost to personal and public health. The others were more compelling given they seem to concern individual rights and liberties and environmental issues.

Good post.

I don't know how much info you have on UK politics, but some of our big parties faced the same problem, and faced the same obstacles.

My party SNP (Scottish Nationalist Party) started off as a fringe movement, and was dismissed as crackpots for years.

But they gained traction, people voted for them, and now they are the government in Scotland, having replaced a party (Labour) who were thought to be invincible...

I know the American system is different, but don't give up on third parties.

A long time ago, the GOP were a new kid on the scene....

Thank you! Yes, Abraham Lincoln was a "3rd party candidate" at the time he was elected, the Republican Party was just 4yrs old then. It is not impossible for an upset, there are many uncounted factors, like the polls that failed to use or ask 18-34 voters, and stuck with people who have land-line phones. That there is a major and true anger at the corruption that the primaries exposed, first the ones they fear are blanked in the news, (Bernie and now Jill), the news then goes on the attack making 3rd parties look looney and insnae to the masses so that they can defend the "duopoly" and false choice as of the last few years, both parties have been two wings of one entity.

People here forget we had other parties that came and went to the dustbin of history

Bernie running despite the fact that before the primaries began that Hillary already had over 400 "super-delegates" on her side BEFORE the convention(when they are only then supposed to way in on the primaries), was a smoke signal that things were not good, then the news blackout, then the ridicule, etc. Same has been done with Jill. so they do not like her becoming president or that potent.

Yet when hit with hard questions, Jill rolled with the punches and answered them in clear, intelligent, and well worded answers, same for accusations the media tried so hard to dig and build a "controversy" and failed to do. The whole thing where Time Kaine stands on women's rights is that hew supports abortion ban and other odious issues, so him worrying about women's choices was disingenuous at best, and so yes, Jill a woman, has the right to criticize when Men discuss Women's issues and choices amongst themselves as they have pulled that for decades. My poke at Johnson was due to watching a reporter from the Guardian ask Johnson about his tax plan and other issues and Johnson looked and sounded ready to beat the living snot out of the guy, hence the meltdown remark.

And in the past, despite hard work and efforts, the most I recall of the Greens (with Nader) got was 3% and that shook up the status quo, so 5% is not a "participation prize" as that would be more for the party that got 0-1%, 5% here is tough enough to get, but thanks to the anger Bernie woke up, it may well be the year for the Greens or even the Libertarians to get that 5% they seek, who knows? may be the new blood will be Greens vs Libertarians from 2020-on. People are not just letting slide the Democrats perfidy with the issues of the Primary rigging this past year, they are also aware of the fact that many "New Deal" efforts have been rolled back not by Republicans(when Ike strengthened them in the past), but by those with a (d) next to their name,,,democrats yes, but corporate lap-dogs.

That folks so vehemently support the system that has failed us for decades and did so with gusto says how well entrenched the corporate media has dug the propaganda in their heads, stability? not likely, look t the past few years 15yrs of wars, fracking, trade deals, and other nonsense.

BTW, those who supported Sanders. voting Hillary is not actual faith in his ideals for change, looking at the Green platform Jill is closer to Bernie than Hillary could ever be, she will not listen to anyone if the win is a landslide, she might if she narrowly makes it by a few points, while I would hope the groundswell of anger would help push Jill to the top, I will settle for at least 5% Trump is an odd one, hated him back when he would get himself on the news in New York, and just say the craziest things, getting divorced and bankruptcy of projects he was working on. How effective he would be is an unknown, how bad he would be also an unknown as at times I think like in NYC, he is staging a BS persona to eff with people,m and that the Clintons have been at weddings, parties and golfing with him should set an alarm off to folks.

That some states have voted in celebrities like Jess and Arnie, also says things about how tired of the bull we are.

Hillary is one scary person, she has a track record of wars, regime change, etc, I hate the crap sandwich and crap sandwich with lettuce and tomato they have offered from the establishment parties, and those who may post here who are as well, should help the change as one cannot build something without some effort and ground work, and this is the year for 3rd party ground work, not fear instilled staying the same bad course that has gained little more than some cosmetic frippery as Obama has shown how in the corporate pocket he is, change w can frown at in my opinion.

Having dropped all of the above, here is hoping that the voting today results in some potential changes and does not sink us further down the cesspool that we are already in.

Good luck all.

Gerrymandering only affects the popular vote it wouldn't come into play with state govts appointing senators to Congress if we repealed the 17th amendment. States have distinct and compelling interests in how the federal govt runs the country and having those interests heard in Congress isn't a bad thing at all. Turning the Senate into an extension of the House undermines the purpose of having the Senate. The constitution didn't mandate how states select Senators so states were free to determine that process on their own, be it appointment by the governor or the state legislature holding a vote or whatever.

I'm sorry, how the feth do you think state legislators are selected? State districts are gerrymandered to feth, much more than house districts.

She has actually debunked that anti-vaxxer crap the media had about her,,,,,ON THE NEWS! she stated her actual position regarding holding the pharmaceutical companies that make the vaccines responsible regarding why they push the vaccines at the costs that they do, so that point is utter crap, look it up.

Nuclear power has bad side effects, the waste products are hard to contain, and highly toxic, requiring special facilities, some places just dump the barrels of it in lakes on their sites, Nuclear plants are also mainly suppliers of nuclear materials for weaponizing the stuff, so how is that good? she is aware of the weapons from nuclear material like enriched Uranium. Add in that many of our plants are now over 50yrs old and are hard to "clean up" as the reactors that sit idly in a few cases, are so radioactive deconstruction is difficult?

GMOs are in house short term tested by the makers of the stuff, and so far the GMO industry has not given us more than crops resistant to their own herbicides, the crops still need as much water as other crops, the yields are not greater, and that they tried to make GMOs that needed an expensive hormone reagent to start growth not just water, all points to the corporations stifling the potential benefits so they can sell their seeds and mass quantities of herbicide like roundup which is having a negative impact on the environment. Maybe there are some GMO plans on files or in safes that will do as promised, but so far, it has been just a used car sales pitch to make the money by chicanery.

As for Nuclear power, well thorium plants would be safer and better and easier to deal with, and the US and China have been working on such projects along with molten salts reactors. It is not that Stein is an idiot, it is that you and others are not knowledgeable on those subjects.

It is the responsibility of voters to actually do due diligence on candidates and see where they stand on issues and why, not just vote Party A just 'coz.

Jill; Stein disqualified herself with me when she said in a CNN townhall that she wants to shut down all US military bases outside of the United States.

Then, of course, there's this:

I saw a post that made me think of this thread:

Person A: I'll vote for Donald Trump
Dakka: You can't he's a small handed racist, misogynist, Hitler Jr

Person A: I'll Vote for Hillary Clinton
Dakka: You can't she's a criminal

Person A: I'll Vote for a third party
Dakka: You can't that is throwing your vote away or giving it to one of the above

Person A: I won't vote
Dakka: You have to it is your duty

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Odd, Ron Paul was loved for stating the same thing. something about that constitution and ensnaring alliances.

In my opinion, it's a fatal position to our allies that rely on us for protection and deterrent, and an abrogation of our post-World War II responsibilities.

In any case, she lost me then...it was only after John Oliver's bit that I found out about the gakky music, for the record.

I doubt she would get all closed, but closing bases that no longer serve the function they used to would help our being bled dry to keep them running. But hey, some folks like the idea of maintaining an Empire, no matter how much it hurts, the MIC loves that.

And so she did a song at some party, pretty much a mellow key to it, laid back, not your kind of music, but it is not something to base how well she would do from.

But our allies have grown to better levels thanks to our being so willing to outspend all other nations militarily, they were able to cut their military spending, and use it for many nice things. We are the neo-Roman Empire, and we all know what happened to Rome way back.

And yes, John Oliver has joined the ranks of those who speak to and for power, not against it as many good comedians do. Corporate flunky he is now.
