Well.... to be quite honest the Obama administration did suggest a fingerprint identification system for refugees, which by it's nature would be a Muslim registry. I wonder why no one raised an eye at that?

Everyone foriegn who enters the USA is fingerprinted at border control. It's been that way for at least 10 or 15 years. Same when going to Japan.
There is a very obvious difference between fingerprinting everyone and fingerprinting only members of a specific religion. That is why no one raised an eye about it.

If the only Muslims in the country were the refugees that are now arriving then you would have a point.
There is a tick over 3 million Muslims in the US right now. Consider for instance some of the influx of the 1880s, there descendants are now fifth and sixth generation Americans. Under Obama's suggestion they would be treated like any other citizens. Under Trump's (sometimes) suggestion, they would be placed on a registry.
Of course, that's only one variation of what Trump has talked about with this issue. At times he's said it would just be for Syrian refugees, and at other times he's just kind of blathered around the subject, while reporters ask him pointed questions. He's said about a dozen different things, many of which contradict each other.
The bigger question is what such a database would even achieve. It seems fairly similar to a burka ban, does nothing good for no-one, but a lot of people instinctively like it because it gives them a feeling of control over a group of people they've become afraid of.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

A top aide to President-elect Donald Trump says singer-songwriter Elton John will perform at the Republican’s inauguration in January.
“Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the [national] mall for Inauguration,” Anthony Scaramucci, vice chairman of the presidential inaugural committee, told BBC’s “HARDtalk” Tuesday.
Scaramucci added that John, an icon of gay culture, demonstrates the incoming Trump administration’s dedication to LGBT rights.
“This will be the first American president in U.S. history that enters the White House with a pro-gay rights stance,” added Scaramucci, who is also a member of the presidential transition team’s executive committee.
An aide to the performer, however, told the New York Post that John wouldn't perform at Trump's inauguration.
“Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inauguration,” the representative said.
The Post added that Trump is a huge fan of John, often playing songs like the pop star’s “Tiny Dancer” on the campaign trail.
John endorsed Hillary Clinton over Trump during the 2016 race and headlined fundraisers for the Democratic presidential nominee as recently as last month.
The British musician seemingly panned Trump’s candidacy during an Oct. 13 performance, meanwhile, on Clinton’s behalf.
“We need a humanitarian in the White House, not a barbarian,” he said in Beverly Hills, Calif., adding that Clinton embodies “equality, decency, kindness and respect."
"She is, without a doubt, the only candidate supremely qualified to lead this great nation in these challenging times," he said at the time.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Jesus, there's some clickbait journalism at its finest. Headline: "YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS ONE WEIRD THING". Obscure footnote: "none of this is true at all".
There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
Step 1: deport illegal immigrants
Step 2: replace those lost workers with kids
Step 3: Outlaw abortion
Step 4: America is great again
I guess those rustbelt people would have a harder time complaining about their jobs being taken by their own children.
..You could close down the schools too then of course -- big savings there.
Less of those pesky liberal leaning unions too .
how does it go again ?

We have thousands upon thousands of open already but we still have a labor participation rate that is the lowest it's been in 4 decades. We could never deport all the illegal immigrants because we can't find them all, we don't track tourist and work visas nearly well enough to find all the millions of people who over stay them and illegal immigrants who smuggle themselves in are undocumented and off the grid so they're hard to find too. There is legitimate concern over rising youth unemployment as more jobs that used to be worked by teenagers and students are being worked by adults instead and youth who find employment are more likely to find future employment but that's not related to child labor laws.
Clearly the best way to sort that out is to employ 11 year olds in fast food restaurants.
Or mines perhaps ?
With them being shorter you could literally have low overheads.

Personally, I'm okay with it, as long as the funding is actually reacolled elsewhere, without governmental oversight. Then again, the NASA label on science does tend to lend an air of credibility. Then again, anybody who dismisses climate change at this point doesn't read NASA briefings/papers anyways. I'm so confused.
Considering that millions of dollars have been spent getting satellites into orbit precisely to do this kind of research, and those satellites are not anywhere near the end of their lifespan, and Climate Change is likely going to have very serious effects on the USA in a lot of areas (agriculture, water supply etc.) it is a really fething dumb thing to do.
But this is Trump and the republicans who have basically made it their official party policy to ignore and deny any science which goes against their world view. I'm surprised they aren't still arguing against heliocentrism.

The government serves it's people, not the other way around. It should speak the language that the people speak, since that is where the power of the government arises.
Yup. It's basically the bs "He made the trains run on time" argument.
That was Mussolini, and he did. He hung a bunch of railroad employees and suddenly the trains ran on time.

Romney is one of the few Trump cabinet picks I agree with. The Secretary of State needs to be someone intelligent and level-headed. Really, if there is one person in the cabinet who absolutely needs to be part of the "establishment", it's the SoS.

Sorry to slightly change the subject, but this reminds me of another thing that's been a little suspicious. With the Syrian refugee thing going on there seems to be a controversy over discrimination against Christians. It seems that 30% of Syrians that are applying for refugee status to the US are actually Christian, and only 0.5% of those accepted are Christian. This seems a little odd, as Christians are basically priority targets for violence in the area and arguably face harsher conditions than their Muslim neighbors.

This article from the Christian Post sums it up pretty well. Basically, Syrian refugees that are now arriving started the process back in 2011, when Assad was starting his campaign against Sunni Muslims. Christians and Shiites were not fleeing as the they were not targets.
I also read an article from Newsweek that started out with "US bars Christian refugees", then admits in the middle of the article that almost all Syrian refugees are coming from camps in Jordan that Christians don't go to because they will face persecution there, then concludes that yes, the US is de facto barring Christian refugees.

AFAIK, our refugee system is a secular system. I'm not even sure if they record religion.
You are correct, but the DHS does gather info about them from their home country.

I'm unclear what you are responding to here. Are you saying the US is de facto at war with, and therefore should not accept refugees from Syria?
