HAARP is under new management, and the public is invited to get a look at the research facility that, in past years, has been the subject of dark rumors.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks now owns and operates the High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program and invites the public to an open house Saturday. This is interested visitors' chance to learn about the scientific mission and research at the Gakona facility, which was transferred last year from the U.S. Air Force to UAF.
UAF officials are hoping for a high turnout.
"We hope that people will be able to see the actual science of it," said Sue Mitchell, spokesperson for UAF's Geophysical Institute, which operates the facility. "We hope to show people that it is not capable of mind control and not capable of weather control and all the other things it's been accused of."
HAARP, which opened in the 1990s, is one of the world's few centers for high-power and high-frequency study of the ionosphere, Earth's thin upper atmosphere, which gets its name from the high quantities of ionized atoms and molecules that bounce around it. The ionosphere is important because radio waves used for communication and navigation reflect back to Earth, allowing long-distance, short-wave broadcasting.
To study the ionosphere and what is happening there, HAARP uses 180 high-frequency antennas spread over 33 acres.
The antenna field will be available for public tours at the open house, and one of the facility's scientist will be available to explain how it works, Mitchell said.
Other features include an unmanned aircraft "petting zoo" and various interactive displays about space weather and other subjects, Mitchell said. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to tour UAF permafrost and seismic stations that are not part of HAARP but within walking distance, she said.
Refreshments will be served, and the event is open for all ages, according to the Geophysical Institute.
HAARP is a 240-mile drive from Fairbanks and roughly 198 miles from Anchorage.
A related event is a Friday night public lecture on HAARP, to be held at the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Visitor Center, about 30 miles away from the facility.

MINNEAPOLIS - Jesse Ventura is back for another stab at TV stardom, this time hosting a program that digs into conspiracy theories, including alternate views of what was behind the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the purpose of a sprawling research center in remote Alaska.
The former Minnesota governor, professional wrestler and Navy SEAL stars in "Conspiracy Theory With Jesse Ventura," which premieres Wednesday n truTV. The cable network, part of Turner Broadcasting System Inc., has ordered seven episodes of the hourlong weekly series.
The premiere episode deals with the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, or HAARP, a 35-acre compound of 180 antennas near Gakona, a remote village in Alaska, that is used to study the Earth's ionosphere. Ventura and those he interviews question whether the government is using the site to manipulate the weather or to bombard people with mind-controlling radio waves.
"This thing can knock planes out of the air. It can control the weather. And it's a very dangerous, dangerous weapon," Ventura said Tuesday on "The Morning Blend" talk show on WTMJ-TV of Milwaukee. (The HAARP Web site says the research station does not affect the weather and was not designed for military purposes.)
On the debut show, Ventura talks to a team of "Conspiracy Theory" investigators about HAARP and makes an unplanned visit to the research station, only to be turned back at the gates.
"When I get denied something, I do the opposite of getting intimidated - I get angry," Ventura fumes.
HAARP, which is managed by the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Office of Naval Research, is open to the public for one day every other year.
Jillian Speake, an Air Force spokeswoman based in Kirtland, N.M., said Ventura made an official request to visit the research station but was rejected, "and he and his crew show up at HAARP anyway and were denied access."
Future "Conspiracy Theory" shows explore alleged cover-ups surrounding the Sept. 11 attacks and whether there are real "Manchurian Candidate" assassins who are programmed to kill, said Juris. But he said the show is selective in which theories it investigates.
"We're not just running around the country and talking to anyone who has a conspiracy theory. We're actually looking for consistency in the types of stories we're hearing," Juris said. "We're trying to see if there's an element of truth to it."
wonder if he'll go .....
Course if it is a mind controlling device then maybe it works better at close range .......
.... Be kinda cool to have a poke around there though.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

This is all fine and good, but if one is the kind of person inclined to believe the government can control people's thoughts and the weather, then one would also think it's trivially easy to conceal that fact from people, even as they walk around the area.
I am close with several conspiracy fanatics and the train of thought goes paranoia -> conspiracy -> evidence, not the other way around.

But wait... If it is a mind controlling device, then wouldn't it be able to control people's minds into thinking there is no mind controlling device?

And that is why you have to wear something to block the mind rays and make sure to *never* look the reptilians in the eyes. Common sense, basically.

Tin Foil hats should work. However, when within such close proximity to the "device", you should probably wear 2 layers.

You see thats how they get you. They let you in, then use the mind control device to convince you everything is normal. When in reality you're touring a storage unit in the back lot of the complex eating McDonalds laced with hallucinogens to make it all the more real. Then theyll doctor up some photos to hand out to the guests so they have "proof".

Tin foil hats are a government conspiracy. They spread it so that sheeple will wear them, allowing their mind control facilities to better focus their beams. That is why I hang CDs from my ceiling and never leave the basement.

I wouldn't say that tinfoil hats do nothing. The CIA fnord created the idea that tinfoil hats protect your thoughts so that they could use their tfradar echo detectors fnord to identify dissidents fnord whose thoughts most need policing fnord.
