Hi all, I usually do not ask for help with lists, I usually figure I could do it myself but I have not seen any threads going into detail of these guys.
I always wanted a codex for these guys but they seem like just an expensive option to my normal marines.

Some of my thoughts:

Corvus Darkstar: Looking at the rules, as a transport this vehicle is... ummm... garbage. I think I will leave it empty but tool it for blasting the heck out of troops and some sky control. It's ability to repeatedly bomb is not to be underestimated.
Auspex Array allows "Strafing Run" which could augment the fun.

These guys are basically a Sternguard army.

Drop pods are looking the usual choice transport, 3 of them, 10 man squads for the first two and combat squading out of the pod.

Is it just me or are those shotguns interesting? I am tempted to tool-up a fair number of them and put them in a Rhino or a Drop Pod for giggles of how many templates you can use.

The stalker pattern guns.... fair bit of utility but completely static. With the access to "hellfire rounds" there is little point for snipers other than to assassinate specific models in a squad.

The special rules seem to me like a weaker version of the Imperial Fists shooting.

I am tempted to add some gravity guns to some bikes and they can pretty much hunt down anything they want. (<edit> Remember they use special ammo).

Is it just me or do the Dreadnaughts and Terminators have little different than the normal SM units?

Really a coin toss to me for Infernus or Frag Cannon, I am tempted with the Infernus having a longer reach but the Frag "Template, S6 A2, Rending" is awfully fun hopping out of a pod. The Infernus would cost the same if you add Hellfire shells.

The heavy Thunderhammer has me wondering who I give it to who can survive all the attacks first before "the hammer drops". We may have to rely on burying the guy in a group.

The Dominus Aegis looks like a nice way to get a 4+ Inv save for the more shooty squads if they do not need to move.

This whole army reminds me alot of a more shooty Grey Knights with much less psychic dice to throw around.

I am assuming I will need Allies with these guys, as a stand alone group they would struggle.

<edit> Main reason for posting this is I am putting these guys together as we speak and I have a few tough choices to make for load-out of the troops.
Thanks for any thoughts or tactics you can bring forward!

Hey
I'm planing to ally with Guard, a blob platoon with the Dominus aegis giving the whole group 4++. I've also started magnetising my deathwatch so I can change their load out after some trial and error

Holy crap.. I didn't even think about that... You can get a DW librarian with Dominus Aegis for 90 points. The rule also states that it's dependent on the model moving, not the unit. So stick him in the front of a blob and you can keep him in place and leapfrog the squad past him.

Ha! That is evil applying that to a blob!
BUT a bit of a problem: you cannot move to use it.
Hence why I said for my more "shooty" squads.

At least someone seems to be interested in this army.

Imperial Guard may be the very thing,
I have a ton of these guys.
A fair bit of armor never hurt.
It would be about right too: if there is a major Xenos problem, the IG/AM is probably dealing with it in quantity, DW comes in to cut off the head.
That is EXACTLY how they would be used in a game.

I am unsure I will magnetize other than when I do the bikes: there are many options with them: grav-gun then using the special ammunition on the bike you can do anything.
BUT you may want some combat weapons to hop into melee (Oh! I need to go back and look if I can grab a normal thunderhammer).
The Darkstar can be easily done for the options it has.
I find for normal troops the weapon and stance is integral to it all so magnets are not as great for them..
I think I may stick a magnet in the Sgt for the combat weapon, due to special munitions I do not see a need to use anything but the bolt pistol.
For the Jump troops, the mix of all the pistols will be amazing, I will have to think hard on what to do there.

Wish they had a Deathwatch attack bike... it would be epic.

Ran out of the Terminator Deathwatch boxes here, too bad since it comes with some 30 normal marine shoulder pads.
(3 deathwatch upgrade sprues 10 each and 2 Term pads each).
Got some on order but I have a fair bit to put together yet.

Holy crap.. I thought about the Aegis but not the "stick in front then leapfrog", THIS is why I post stuff like this: to get ideas that I would not have thought of otherwise.
I am giving an Exalt just for that.
Nevermind the evil a Librarian can do, he is no Tigurius but good enough!

Hate to burst your bubble but I'm pretty sure that Deathwatch Bikers can only take Power Weapons. No other wargear allowed. So they're strictly 30 or 35pt models. Check your codex again to be sure but those are the only wargear options.

Will do.
Silly me to think they would allow other options.

The model equipped with the Dominus Aegis can't move in the movement phase if you want to use it. Which means you can Run, Charge and Pile In whilst still gaining the effect. And with a 50man Guard Blob, you can basically string coherency out across the entire board if you wanted to. Even if you just have a Guard Blob with 5 autocannons sitting out in the open pinging away whilst getting a 4++, and then when something gets close you can move everyone forward but the Librarian and charge into close combat to lock something up with a re-rollable 4++ (you did add some Ministorum Priests in there right? ). Hell its not even really a tarpit, because when you consider 'Fearless', 'Hatred' and re-rolling To Wounds and Saving Throws from some Ministorum Priests then its practically a deathstar.

Not sure if its better than taking Azrael for 215 pts, he can also give the unit FNP if near a obj and stubborn and +1 to seize for that alpha strike.

+1 Seize is handy and FNP near an objective is handy too, but Stubborn isn't particularly useful when you can effectively be fearless from a Priest. I'd say a Deathwatch Librarian at half the price of Azrael is definitely worth it - the Librarian still gets to roll some Psychic Powers too which could buff out the unit. Much easier to fit a DW Librarian into an army too, rather than a Dark Angels Lord of War.

You could always add in an inquisitor as well taking servo skulls to reduce the scatter of your first wave of deathwatch. If you wanted to spend som more points on him to you could give him a conversion Beamer for anti tank sniping or make him a psyker for more support.

agreed.
Allied detachments can't take LOWs, so for Azrael you're looking at the cheapest as CAD of 1 HQ, 2 troops and a LOW. the cheapest would be 1 naked Librarian, and 2 squads of scouts. plus Azrael for a total of 390 points.

meanwhile the death watch can get it simply by deploying a stragetium command team of 5 veterns and a Libby with the relic for about 200 points.
and that formation'll net you stubbron and adamnatium will on the formation members.

Not to mention that the Librarian can contribute Warp Charges for the Psykers you bought. Roll on Biomancy of course.

Truth be told I still haven't bought the codex yet because of how many options there are.

Probably have to take the Libby in an Allied or CAD though. The Kill Teams don't let him leave. (Don't have my book to hand though so could be wrong.)

it can't leave as part of a kill team. which is why I suggested the stratigium command team. which could be built out of a libby and vet squad, but without requiring the libby to merge into the unit. as said team isn't a kill team formation

Yes, started looking at the book a bit harder last night.

Interesting how the bikes work, only power weapons as pointed out.
I can have 5 of them, the split fire could be interesting.
I could imagine using these guys for cleanup or dealing with those irritating small units you do not want to waste a squad shooting at them.

I am intrigued with the Terminators and getting 4 heavy weapons on them: assault cannons or the missile launchers would be fairly crazy but big points.
Nevermind even getting one of them in a kill team.
I take-on orks a fair bit so they are looking really good for the insane amount of dice needed to chew those 30 man squads.

I am still confused how they insist on putting a bike in a kill team, it is just odd, it does give the option of him shooting somewhere else however.

I was hearing some odd choices for the shotgun earlier, I am pretty sure the rules for the ranged weapons you have to replace the bolter and special ammunition with the shotgun.
I did not see anything that allowed the combat weapon to be traded.

Drop pods are looking like the way to go for shock and awe.
See any use for a Rhino or Razorback?
Two frag cannons in a squad assigned to a Rhino could be fun for drive-by shooting especially since they are assault weapons: it would work well.

If I was going to use a land-raider, the godhammer may be the way to go since I am not too keen on hopping into melee, no matter what is said DW seems at its best shooting.
Heavy vehicles look to be the only thing that would give them a lot of trouble so twin linked lascannons or the terminators with the missiles look like they would do well.

Only the boltgun can be traded for the shotgun (you still keep the special ammo) you can then swap your CCW for a weapon on the ranged list which has the bolt gun for free

That is a rather roundabout way of doing things.
And what does a model do if it gets grabbed in melee and has no combat weapon??

A model without a CCW is treating as having a CCW for the purpose of attacks. BRB.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Thanks, not near my books till later.
So a bolter AND shotgun it is... that is evil in the extreme.
