What gives GW? Shouldn't Nids have the absolute most units that have the "Beast" unit type?
Raveners seem to be the only unit, yet at the very least Hormagaunts & Rippers should also be Beasts.
While were are at it, let's make Trygons & Mawlocs MC Beasts
Anyone know why these units aren't Beasts? Is it a balance thing?

GW being sloppy. The little bugs are WAY too slow. Go play starcraft and see how fast speedlings are. Hormagaunts should move at least 12", and Tyranids should have a unit that moves 18" and rerolls charges.

Because bugs are not demons or space mummies. On top of that, like Orks, Nids are slated to forever be an Imperial foil.
That said, I absolutely love raveners. Gobbled down a 6 man unit of DE bikes and some grotesques yesterday

When you think about Necron having MORE beasts than the entire Tyranid faction (including Forgeworld), then you realise how bad the codex is and how much we need a decent one as soon as possible

Most Tyranids existed BEFORE the beast subtype was a thing, and just mostly get copy pasted over, with slight changes, between editions.
Hormaguants would be an excelent candidate for the beast subtype.

Nids just need their special rules and pts sorted out i think. Funny how the new MCs ended up at the same pts cost but lower Ws/T/Sv

Incorrect, they had the Leaping Biomorph by default which allowed them "to move as beasts" and also, meant that the engaged range in CC increased from 2" to 3".
Raveners were the only beasts in the Nid dex since 4th Ed. I'm looking at 4th, 5th and 6th Ed now.

Then some day, some wonderful day, when a new book comes out that will realize your armies' potential, come out from hiding. Everyone will have thought you had left warhammer 40k for good, but no, you had been training, preparing, and brooding for this moment. Return with such vengeance and hatred that you will not hold back, and you will destroy everything in your path. Like a true chaos crusade, wait for the right moment, then burst forth from the Eye of Terror and unleash your pain on the whole universe. And when they cry and complain that you are OP and that it's not fair. Reassure them that it's true. It isn't fair, but it's what they DESERVE. All of them, each and every one of them deserve to be obliterated into oblivion. And if they ask you to play with a fluffy army, tell them you will do so. But on game day bring the meanest nastiest, ugliest army you can. Give them no opportunity for victory, give them no opportunity for enjoyment. Your only goal is to inflict as much pain and suffering as possible. And when they cry, and they will cry, laugh at them, drink their salty tears, and bath in their sweet, sweet blood.

It's more likely thay you just made a mistake, as it's in mine, but to answer your question, yes they have a couple of times, but last time was 3rd to my knowledge.
The real question is though, why isn't every nid a beast.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

GW has been crapping on Tyranids for many editions now . . . and they are crap rules writers.
What do you call a giant robot covered in guns?

What do you call snake bodied alien with six blade arms that burrows?
- Not a beast, that's for sure!

You know, I've been wanting to mention this for a while. In response to the " NPC race" argument for Orks, Tyranids, and Chaos Marines being underpowered, how do you explain Daemons and Necrons being among the stronger codices? The Necrons are definitely an antagonist race, and are you going to tell me Chaos Daemons aren't part of the "greatest threat to humanity"?

Why can't it be both? No one thought Cavalry could be Jet-pack, but Nurgle Plague Drones changed that. Tau have Jet-pack MCs. Jump MCs exist. There is nothing preventing a unit from being MC-Beast. None of either unit types' rules conflict. You would simply be adding a 12" move (ignoring terrain) and Fleet to the MC profile. Both already have MTC. -

Because Jump and Jet aren't a type, they're a prefix. Jump and jet adds the jump/jet rules to the unit's existing type, but its still effectively a(n) Infantry/Monstrous Creature/Cavalry model that can choose to forgo using its Jet/Jump rules entirely if it chose to (as it still has the option of walking, for starters)
Beast is a seperate unit type of its own, it can't stop being a beast.
Its the difference between
" Jump Infantry " and "Jump-Infantry."

An in-game unit's type does not describe what a unit is, it describes what that unit does.
Despite being a ravenous creature with not brainpower to speak of, a gaunt moves, shoots or charges more slowly than a ripper swarm.
Despite being a metal construct with a pilot sitting inside it, a battlesuit moves, turns, and fights in a way that's more like a space marine than a dreadnought.
Despite being a mass of soulless robots, scarabs rush in in a manner comparable to a wolf monster.
They're just labels you can group recurring collections of rules under.

Simple answer. Beast is better then Infantry.
And since Nids are not allowed to be better then Spehs Mureens or Spehz Elvz they can't be beasts.
