@ZoBo - this is my fave entry ever. Been watching your plog keenly!
Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts
He was my first real try at shading a flesh head. I was finally brave enough to try to get pupils in his eyes, and I am happy to say he is not cross eyed like the one other model I did a long time ago; he is just looking off to the side (which was also unintentional... but I guess it worked since it implies more motion? ).
Sorry about the pictures. Still trying to fiddle with my camera settings. It did not work as planned.

@ZoBo: That is about eleventy billion different types of awesome! Akka/Dakka has to be the best name for an entry I've seen yet (sorry, Midget Gems! )
Since I'm too busy at the moment to sort a poll (first week back at uni, so limited Dakka time), I'll come up with something Halloweeny as that seems quite popular, and normal poll-based service will be resumed next month!

Hope you get back to your normal self soon BC, yeah give painting to deadlines a break for a bit and come back to it when you want too so you can enjoy it as a hobby and not something that you feel has to be done. I've certainly found myself struggling with time and motivation this month. My 8 month old seems to drain any energy I have left after work (but she is totally worth it)
Amazing work Zobo, not only painted brilliantly but you have created a wonderful scene with some really nice touches, I like an Ork that doesn't take itself to seriously . The spotlights and stage extension are really good.

Aw but my entries are always so well named! .........
I'll second the Halloween theme, its fun. I might do some more Orks in Fancy dress
Some slow process on mine so far, not sure I will fully finish tbh
Not going to be able to finish the full unit this month- too much going on, so this lone Flamer of Tzeentch will have to do. Spoilered for ease of viewing.

The blue and yellow is very striking. A bit of feedback: Drilling out the gun will make a big difference.

thanks! - and thanks for your comments over in my plog too, the early stages of this project had my brain a bit scrambled, and your input helped quite a lot
Red_Ink_Cat wrote:ZoBo that is aweome! It puts my entry to shame.
thanks! - and don't say that! - just because I chose to do something big, wacky and over-ambitious, that, if I'm honest, probably stretches the rules of this challenge a little (I suppose there's technically 7 models, the 4 band members, the wagon, and the driver/gunner...also, I'm probably taking quite a liberal take on the theme ), that doesn't lessen yours or anyone else's entry!...it just means I need to go and have my head checked
I feel like your camera's letting you down a fair bit there, I bet your librarian looks great in person...looks like there's some nice blended highlights on the armour, and as others have mentioned, the eyes! - I'm sure we've all seen numerous examples of guardsmen, helmetless space marines, etc, where the eyes have just gone all kinds of wrong...that's something that a very large percentage of painters struggle a lot with, so well done with pulling that off!

haha thanks man! ...yeah, the "Akka/Dakka" seed has been slowly sprouting in my brain for about 2 years now I think, since I painted my first proper 30-boy mob in faded jeans and black shirts...when they were done, the thought occurred to me that "they looked like they were going to an AC/DC concert", and it all kinda started from there
and yeah, skipping the poll this month sounds fine mate...october is pretty much "halloween theme everything month" anyway, so it makes sense ...I don't think I'll be doing any wacky specifically halloween-themed stuff though, as tempting as that may be...because I've got a load of nurgle daemons that need seeing to...but then, I also have a second hand, still-in-bitz khorne kytan daemon engine thingy (head not included) in the post, should be here by next tuesday...and I was planning on figuring out a new head for it and converting it to a nurgle renegade knight ...ehh...not sure though, I'll have to wait till I get a proper look at it I think, not sure if I'd be able to get that done in a month

thanks! high praise coming from you mate! - I've been a big fan of all your great, quirky ork conversions so far ...I still have no idea how on earth you've come up with some of those ideas! - I can't wait to see what you come up with for halloween! ...and yeah, orks are pretty much the last bastion of imaginative silliness left in 40k...building/painting/playing super-serious deadpan orks would just be kinda missing the point imo! gotta have fun with it!

Finally got around to breaking out the camera and getting stuff I've finished recently photographed. urrrgghhhhhh - not fun
But anyways - here's my take on Eldrad Ulthran for my entry. Hope you likehim as much as I loved painting him
Cheers folks
Ps - Snow is an utter pain in the gakhole to photograph. Utter!
May I ask what painting technique you used for the nebula/aurora on his cloak? I also have this model and would like to take another crack at painting a star-scape

ZoBo, that's definitely my favorite thing of yours I've seen. The idea and the modelling work are amazing. I like how you've painted it too. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but sometimes with your stuff you put so much weathering on, revealing the grey underneath, and often a grey base too, that the miniature can look a little washed-out. It may just be your camera, of course. I love how vibrant and colourful you've made this one.
Januine - That Eldrad is just beautiful. Superb work on the cloak, the freehand, the gems, the colour scheme... It's just great.
I'm going to be bringing the standard down a bit later or maybe tomorrow night when I upload my own burnt offerings.
Edit - and here he is.
Finished Zombicide: Black Plague Necromancer.
He's supposed to have no pupils, by the way. That's part of his whole schtick.
I had to change tack with this one this month, so he was painted in pretty quick time. I was going to paint something else, but I needed reference photos, and it turned out to be impossible to get them (due to, improbably, a lightsaber's batteries running out.)

he looks quality feltmonkey. love the cloak shades. really lush luxurious blues. You might want to zoom/crop those photos though as he's really hard to see properly in the first photo especialy
The further away he is, the harder it is for you to see the mistakes.
It was a nightmare getting even those photos. My wife takes the photos (partly because I'm not allowed to touch her precious camera!) and she's gone to bed now, so no replacement photos tonight unfortunately. We had to hang a pair of blue underpants over a light as it was casting a really orange pallour over the miniature. I hope for the moment you can zoom in on the gallery pic a bit.
Thanks for the compliment though. It's good to hear because I'm very down on everything I do at the moment. Everything I paint looks terrible to me right now.
edit - actually, is that a bit better?

@red_ink_cat - the cloak was done wet-in-wet. Its usually a tecnique used in watercolour painting for painting skies and clouds - well at least that's where I learned it from.
The cloak was zenithal primed as per usual and then lightly painted black just to get some underlying shadows and highlights. Then a layer of thin black (thinned with lahmian medium to keep it from drying a bit longer) while that was still totally wet, nearly undiluted other colours were 'dropped' and painted through the wet black paint. The layers are pretty thin so it doesnt turn into one big muddy mess. The 'clouds' are built up over about 3-4 thin layers of wet\-in-we\t. Obv leaving each layer to dry before doing the next. Highlights to the clouds were done after with a touch of the cloud base colur and some pallid wych added in and blended. thats more or less it. I practiced it on a few balck primed plastic spoons first which really helped get the tech and idea set out in my mind before going anywhere near the fig.
@Januine: Stop making me want that plastic Eldrad model so much! Seriously awesome work!

Well worth the wait, you've outdone yourself this time. Brilliant conversation with a great paint job, lots of fantastic little touches. The spot lights, pyrotechnics and of course the band name to just mention a few.
If we were playing and you put this on the table, I don't think I could bring myself to shoot at it... it would just rove around the battlefield completely unmolested causing mayhem.

Eesh. Lotta nice stuff coming out this month. even more than usual, keeping the number of votes down is going to be hard...
also gotta drop my final for the month. Sadly, this is a lesson in "paint and base separately." Kinda missed with some wash on the down foot and couldn't clean it up enough--almost feel like it'd work better if I hit the other foot with some red wash to match it.. Also playing with dakka's auto-white balance feature.

At least you got a base... my entry is going to be clamped in its work base. I was going to make a scenic base, but I just don't have time... Photos coming tomorrow...
*on an aside, you might be able to clean the red off by using a tan base before going back to your white skin.

Both camera batteries are completely flat and I cannot find the charger anywhere, typical. Took these with my phone however I think they've come out a little blurred, hopefully they are ok.
As for the model, overall relatively happy with it apart from I ballsed up the blends on the force axe so had to paint it all one colour in the end which was a shame. Here he is:
10000 Pts 30k and 40k
2500
