Yes. A thousand times yes. It is one of the best board games period, in my worthless opinion. The expansion is necessary for 5 players.

Relic is a slightly improved version of Talisman. Only buy if that sort of game is in your wheelhouse. Otherwise it will not get much playtime due to set-up time and the length of the games (which can be long without house rules).

Blood Bowl Team Manager is great once you treat it as its own game and NOT a remake of the original Blood Bowl. It took me a few plays to realize this. Also realize that not all teams are equal. Give the Reikland Reavers to a new player and the dwarves to a more experienced one, etc.

My initial impressions of Forbidden Stars were positive. Not too deep, but you still have enough tactical choices to make. Warp storms add a bit of uncertainty. I haven't played enough to know if each race has a specific limited path it must optimize in order to win.

Warhammer Conquest is a fun card game, but if you have one casual player against a player who optimizes his/her list based on tourney lists, it's rough. Players of roughly the same ability work best. That's kind of a thing that these sorts of games run into. Two-player only.

If you only buy one, make it Chaos in the Old World. It is truly a wonderful game.

Oh, the irony of dropping 40K to do Starcraft and Warcraft games instead, given the origins of Starcraft and Warcraft.

And well done Starcraft and Warcraft wargames could very well dethrone GW.

Where'd you get that? I did a quick google and didn't see anything.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

unless they specificly have a clause in their contract they won't be able to. and they're still selling their product on their own website, which is why I wonder if maybe this ISN'T a loss of lisence. could GW and FFG be perparing to start carrying the RPG products on BL's website?

I think there would be some neat opportunities. It'd be an interesting mechanic for a tabletop game to incorporate base building.

It's why when I first heard of the second edition of Dark Heresy I got worried that it was about to have done to it what FFG had done to WFRPG.

Thankfully that turned out not to be the case.

I fail to see how the progression of a super old video game series has any real relation to how good a board game will be?

I swore there was something like that back in the beta, before they scrapped everything and just went with a cheap rehash of only war rules.

Having given up directly paying GW for plastic crack by getting myself hooked on Conquest (which is awesome!), I am seriously fethed off about this.

Maybe I should just go do more exercise and get away from 40k again for a while.

I'd buy the gak out of a Stormwind/Knights of the silver hand/Stromgarde army.

Hell, even if they made it Stormwind rules wise, I'd probably paint it as Stromgarde.

Interesting if true. FFG used to have the *craft licenses a few years ago but dropped them around the time they started to publish GW licensed games. The Starcraft boardgame is quite good.

There were some very nice looking small-scale Starcraft pieces that Prodos did a while back, I wonder if there is any relation? (knowing that most of the work that Prodos does is through their casting facilities for other companies)

It was just a different rule system. 2nd Ed Dark Heresy didn't have any dice or counters or narrative rolling or any of that.

Oh, and:

Normally I'd agree, but they didn't exactly rehash the better parts of it well enough, like the fact that the ammo system changed so that basically every lasgun has it's own type of clip rather then one general power pack , or various rules that seem to never actually interact with anything. (You can brace a basic gun or put it on a Tri-Pod!... Why exactly), Rarity also needed a tuneup, as by rules you could easily get everyone a sentinel before their first mission, GM willing.

Only War had some pretty good rules though, felt the Vehicular combat could be done better but everything else was well enough, pity that the Officers will never receive their splat now.

Where are you getting this Warcraft/Starcraft rumour from?

I'd have thought Runewars would be too close to home for a Warcraft tabletop game, but maybe not Starcraft. Something more along the lines of Imperial Assault seems likely.

Is the Blizzard thing real or just an interweb wishlist rumor?

If they're going for a wargame kinda thing, it would seem silly to make Runewars and then Warcraft right after it.

I'd love a warcraft game though, and starcraft too. if it's true then they just lost a Runewars purchase from me, I'd wait for Warcraft instead.

I agree Wacraft does sound unlikely in the context of Runewards being released.

Unfortunately the person that commented initially (Stormonu) hasn't posted anything further or revealed the source of the rumour.

I'm actually bummed that they're parting ways, if this is true...and most of the evidence points to it.

I was also one of those who wished GW would just hand over game rules design to these guys and stick to making the sweet minis. I'm so disenfranchised with Warhammer Fantasy and 40K right now...mostly because of the bloated mess that 40K has become and because they blew up WFB and the Old World.

Also, maybe I'm in the minority here, but I actually really enjoyed WFRP 3rd edition, and still do...We're about a year and a half in on my current campaign, and I have a party of 5 that still show up looking forward to the games every two weeks.

I'm also a huge fan of their current Star Wars RPG, which takes the WFRP 3rd dice mechanic and refines it a bit...actually would love to adapt the Star Wars dice for my current WFRP game, just cant be bothered ATM. I tried playing D&D 5th after enjoying these FFG RPGs, and although it's the best D&D I've ever played, and the fate point mechanic really does a lot for it, I just feel like I'm missing something with the d20 single axis of resolution, and although it isn't as crunchy as 4th or even 3.5 (Pathfinder), it's still just too much about math and modifiers. I get that some people enjoy their RPGs crunchy, I'm just not one of them.

Never did try out the FFG 40k RPGs, but have heard mixed reviews. I may end up grabbing some of the books when FFG dumps them this holiday season at a huge discount on their website, if for nothing else than the fluff and art.

Edit: Still need to grab Chaos in the Old World and the Horned Rat expansion before they are gone for good.

Yeah, it was excellent. Just before they dropped it, I got into collecting it, as soon as they dropped it I got lucky and picked up several collections for next to nothing. I think I got about 10k cards (as well as tons of extras like deck boxes) for about £50 (and a good chunk of that was the postage on the huge box!) In total I must have picked up about 15-20k cards total for less than £100.

Sadly, I've not had time to learn the game, and I haven't had time to sort them out as they were packed up as soon as I received them ready to move out of the UK.

If FFG are heading to do Blizzard stuff, then it might just be time to finally get the collection sorted in hope that the start up card games again! I have no idea how I'm going to organise so many, but it will be sweet when its done!

This is fine. FFG was kind of done making 40k stuff. They were about out of ideas when they basically just stopped. This means we might be able to get some new people on it.

I'm from the future. The future of space

Is it "FFG loses Warhammer license" or "Warhammer loses FFG game design and production?"

I think it might be the latter.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
