One of my lists has 18 boyz, a doc and warlord in a battlewaggon and iv got points to be picky about what upgrades and weapons to give it so in your experience what the best load out you have success with? 4 rockets?4 big shooters? let me know!

If you want to to make it to your objective, then extra armour or anything you can to up your ability to weather fire would not hurt you.
That and get there faster.

Cheap as possible. Reinforced ram is a must-take. One or two big shootas/rokkits, but to be honest, the only reason to take them is because if your wagon suffers a weapon destroyed result, and has no weapons, it gets upgraded to a immobilized. So, the only reason to have a weapon is to prevent this.
Boarding plank deserves honorable mention, as +2 to your charge distance isn't bad. But, in general, with 6" move from the BW, disembarking another 6", a likely run from a waaagh, and 2D6 charge, rerolling one, 2" give or take usually doesn't make a big difference. But it's not bad for 15 points.
Past the RR and a couple token guns, I don't take anything. BWs are basically just tougher trukks, and consequently generally worthless once their passengers have gotten out.
Back when deffrollas were actually threatening, battlewagons actually could be effective post-disembarking, but not anymore.
Kilkannon BWs are not a terrible unit, but are better for smaller, shooty units like flash gitz or tankbustas. But for a transport-only BW? Keep it cheap.

Sweet cheers guys think i might take 2 rokits and grots! extra armour seems to be a bit costly at 15pts.

The best loadout imo is Ram, Rokkit and boarding plank. This +2" to charge ranges is golden, trust me. If you're not taking someting melee, than just rokkit and ram. If you're planning to use it as a bunker, than either 4 rokkits or bigshootas and still ram just in case. You could also use it with a s7 ap3 cannon if you're running blitz brigade - it's a ton of fun.

Ram and rokkit has got to be the best load out. Ram, rokkit and boarding plank is good too but very expensive and I don't generally find myself failing many charges to warrant paying for the planks. With how ineffective tanks become at shooting after you move them I don't see the benefit of purchasing more than 1 weapon. 5 points gets you a bosspole, a bomb squig, a grot orderly to help a tanky Warboss etc - all much better value in my eyes. As noted already I only get the single rokkit to reduce the chances of being immobilised.

Yes, as others said, keep it cheap, and don't take a lot of weapons.
Use it just as an armoured transport, not a combat tank, and it will do its part.

I like loafing them up with 4 rokkits, ram, and the grabbin klaw so that you can grab the enemy tanks, walkers, knights. I grabbed a knight from behind and since it can't move it couldn't hurt the battlewagon and it eventually died to it.

My Armies:
Orks about 15000-16000 mostly unpainted but slowly being worked on
Militarum Tempestus about 2000 points just built
Inquisition about 2000 points unpainted
Officio Assassinorum 570 unpainted

I know that this is no longer even an option, but does anyone else remember the "bolt-on big shoota" upgrade from the past? You could put up to 5 extra big shootas on a Battlewagon, but they had to be shot by the passengers.
My trick, 5 bolt-on big shootas (manned by grots, so BS3) 3 twin-linked big shootas, and a lobba. That thing was crazy good against horde armies.

I fully agree with this statement. Just to add Blitz Brigade lists can get away with not taking boarding planks because they can get so far up the table with their scout move. Killkannon is useful when transporting things like Tankbustas, Flash Gitz, or Meganobz (although I prefer putting MANz in trukks).
Personally I am not a huge fan of grot rigs on battlewagons mostly because my battlewagons are there to get the boyz from point A to point B and after that they are there to usually ram things or tankshock. They don't really need them to regen hull points once the boyz hit the ground. Maybe on bunker style or "Git Wagons" that are parked in cover.

A bw with the full amount of rockits a kannon and filled with tank busters can become a mobile meq killer bringing 20 str 8 ap 3 shots.

That sounds like a lot but as soon as you move the battlewagon you've got to fire 4 of those as snap shots so you probably won't hit a single one of those shots. Snap firing 4 rokkits and firing one at BS2 isn't worth 25 points to me and it's a rare turn when your battlewagon doesn't move at all. For those points you could almost have got two tankbustas or a deffkopta etc which have more utility. I can sort of see fully decked out battlewagons having a place in a scouting dakka blitz brigade but even then I think the points are better spent on other units.

The problem with adding extra weapons to your wagon is that they won't all be able to fire at the same target, due to the way the model itself is built. Which is a shame because a kannon and loads of big Shootas would gel well with shoots boyz otherwise.

The Battlewagon has loose standards for where weapons are suppose to go and what type of mounting is has. There isn't even a model for the Rokkits so who knows where they are suppose to go.

The sneaky option would be to mount all the weapons on a rotating turret, but you might get some grumbles and dark looks
