The thing is GW are missingg a trick in selling the upgrade sprues separately, the Deathwatch ones are selling like hot cakes on auction websites.

I now have the codex, Neophytes and dice in hand. Beautiful stuff.
Remember when GW put out those Space Marine upgrade sprues earlier and they sold ok but not great... Probably a test run for all these upgrade sprues. Their rationale: if the Ultramarines can't sell well enough on their own, no one can.

Fair call, and maybe they had a load of BA ones left which is why they bundled them with all the Angel's Blade releases the other week. The rrp of £8, and the fact that after a splash release in store they became web exclusive, probably did not help either.

Am enjoying bthe GSC codex a lot compared to some of the more recent releases.

That is what I thought so as well, then I realized as I started to say a few weeks ago. Smoke and mirrors. Smoke and mirrors. GW is still the same, but the illusion of change.

LOL! like when they intro'd the very slightly revamped Landraider for the Deathwatch at 80USD when all other LRs are 75bucks

The DW Landraider also includes both the Godhammer sprues and the Crusader sprue, while the SM kits are one or the other. Depending on the kit, that Deathwatch upgrade sprue is valued at anywhere from $5ish to -$13.

The thing is, it doesn't matter if anything is being added. The prices are going up. We have the illusion that 40K is cheaper now because yes it's easier to get started buy buying a $100 Canadian get started box, which is bearable compared to before but once you want to start playing what other people are playing at higher point games, when you are buying anything that is not a get started box, you are paying too much.

So Mr Roundtree hasn't done anything about reducing the prices of their product. So in the end, yes it's easier to start now, but to keep continuing it's just as expensive as it's ever been, if not even worse now. Prices are still going up.

In the end the only thing that has changed is it's cheaper to get into 40K, but to keep playing it's as insane as it's ever been.

They must be doing something right. I've been a hardcore GW fan since the mid 90's, but I haven't spent much money on them since 2007. That all changed this year. I have so many Deathwatch and Genestealer Cult models now.

Yeah they are doing something right. They are making us feel like we are not idiots. No more Mr Kirby and Mr IP guy knocking us down for buying their products.

Yeah I spend so much money on GW from January 2016, it seems I am not the only one. Will be curious to see what the second half results be for January to June. I think it will be a lot more products sold. Will be surprised if not. Not sure if that will translate to more profits but will be shocked if it doesn't lead to more sales.

Well, I finally went and sold off my 1500-2000pt marine army to prep for this release. Loving the whole thing here. Hopefully 80+ genestealers are enough for this army.

Hopefully in 10-11 months from now when 8th edition hits, you don't regret your decision and Genestealer Cult get's nerfed. Heaven forbid 8th edition becomes even more of a shootier edition than 7th was compared to 6th edition was and nerf assault based armies even more.

It went to a good buddy of mine, so I will still see it on a regular basis. I ran it, but my heart never really went into the army like it did with my Tyranids. Only things I kept were an unassembled imperial knight and my sisters of battle that went with it.

Sorry, no sarcasm in my comment. I do really want a HUGE Genestealer creature to go with my army. I get that from a gaming perspective, it might not be needed to win games, and perhaps it doesn't appeal to everyone. It's just what I really would like to see. I'm perfectly happy losing every game I play, if I love the army I'm allowed to have. I realize many people like to break their armies, and individual figures down to just 'numbers', or W/L ratios, and that's fine, there's room in the hobby to enjoy that and more.

Looks like I'll have to re-purpose some Carnifex, and maybe something else, to fit into the Brood/cult. What would make a good 'genestealery' HQ to my Tyrannid allies? Can I use a broodlord with anything aside from other genestealers? Is it worth kitting out a Tyrant to look genestealer-like? Can a Tervigon work in a genestealer like context? What's a bigger somewhat genestealer-like Tyranid creature aside from the Carnifex (so, somewhat Bipedal/standing upright/big claws/ mostly CC/etc)?

I agree with others that thematically and rules wise a specific Stealer cult big gribbly is not needed. But the odd allied Nid would be fine IMO. It could be an advanced scout or a lone survivor from a nearby Hive fleet. The codex actually has a bit of fluff about a cult that worships a "battle scarred Tyranid monstrosity trapped in ice".

What about the Goliath truck/ rockgrinder?

What are their points?

Are they durable?

Are they worth it?

Do they do anything special?

I really want to know before I pull the trigger on ordering 4-6 of them. I don't have my codex yet.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I adore them too. Out of interest what were you offered for them? A few on eBay are already at £30.

Rockgrinder can still carry 6 but is not open topped and no restrictions on what it can carry.
Hv Stubber, Hv mining laser, 6 fire points, cost another 25pts +1 AV at front only

I was offered £45 which was very hard to turn down, but as I said to the chap I missed the harlequin set and I've just got to keep these (childhood nostalgia and all that)

One source said both cult symbol on 6 and skull on 1.
Others said just cult symbol on 1.
Which is it ?

Yes, there is a lot of that going on. People usually want their symbol on the 6. easier to distinguish.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Actually that is a good thing, having the symbol as a one. Now when we miss and if you get your rerolls, it will be easier to spot and know you have rerolls instead of missing those ones.

GWs fans like their miniatures to be expensive, their products to be Limitied edition, their novels to be as short as possible and their rules to have no balance, is it really a suprise they continue to cater to that audience by putting the symbol on the one?

AM I the only one who is really liking the broodmind powers? Mind Control looks to be a good one, with the only way to stop it being to deny the witch. It isn't even an opposed roll or the target having to fail a LD test or anything. In fact, they all look pretty solid options and only psionic blast seem,s to be a bit iffy (I'm not a fan of having to roll to get the power to go off and THEN having to roll to hit as well!)
