We're restarting our Mordheim warband, and I'm getting tired of my Maneaters warband. We're playing Border Town Burning, and I've borrowed some Orcs... But not a lot, so I've had to compromise, as I don't have a lot of models for Orcs. I've never played Fantasy Orcs, but Orks are my favourite 40k race, so I know a bit about how they play already.

My warband don't need to be completely competetive, but I'd love to not constantly lose and die.

We have some house rules, most notable that armor costs half price.

Here it is:

- Boss: Light Armor, Shield, Axe, Helmet, Dagger.

- 2 x Big Un': Axe, Shield, Light Armor, Dagger.
- Shaman: Dagger, Axe.

- Boy: Bow, Dagger.
- 3 x Goblin: Short Bow, Dagger.

- Ogre Bodyguard: Sword, Club, Light Armor.

Price: 445 (so I can at least pay the Ogre if I lose the first battle.).

How does this look to you?

Do you have a 'Hired Swords at warband creation' house rule too? I don't think that's allowed normally.

I'm skeptical about the small model count and the shooty henchmen/melee heroes approach, I'd recommend taking more cheap models to put in between your heroes and the enemy.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I checked the rulebook, and it says I can hire Hired Swords at creation, it's apparently allowed

The problem is that I don't have more models than this. It's very scarce, I know, but I don't want to rely on other's models, so I'd rather use what I have. I definately agree, though, I'd want more models! I just don't have them.

I just checked and my confusion on Hired Swords appears to be the fault of poor rulebook organization. Nothing in the 'creating a warband' section suggests you can and then one sentence over in the 'Recruiting Hired Swords' section says '...or at warband creation'.

Well I'm playing for fun most of the time, so that's good! I'm used to Maneaters, who aren't very effective in a regular battle, so I'm not that scared of Orcs. My mission for this campaign will be to get my Ogre Bodyguard as a Hero for gaks and giggles, but if I implode after the third mission, I'll live with it.

I'll get back to you when everything goes south
