So, I just had the thought, to kitbash chaos raptors with the GW legion tactical squad box, to create some cheap assault marines. Would this work aesthetically?
I have a force of RG that I'm really wanting to use in 30k along side my IG/SA. I used the BaC set to make my Raven Guard, so I have a fair amount of heresy stuff for them. As I'm still building up my Raven Guard, I'm open to suggestions on how to make them as HH appropriate looking as possible?
This is probably not an original idea, but it did just occur to me.

It'd work but that's a lot of cutting and filing to "de-chaosify" them. I'd go third party if you aren't concerned about playing in a GW store.

I'm interested in any third party recommendations people might have.
Personally for my assault squad I managed to get together enough chainswords and pistols from various bits piles, I plan on getting some Anvil Industry running legs (since jump packs and B@C static legs would look weird). For the jump packs themselves I scrounged some Sanguinary Guard jump packs though I might need to get a few extra from some Chinese friends (if you know what I mean) to get enough for a 15 man unit.

The different jumppacks on here are the closest I have found to 30k.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. This is some good stuff to consider. Right now I have some regular 40k assault marines, but they don't look 30k enough, so that's sort of my issue. I mean I could imagine it being prototype gear but that feels like a bit of a cop out.

I'd bet all my power daggers they're going to be sold out. Breaking up a kit isn't worth it to sell one bit and be stuck with a bunch of Sanguinary Guard torsos and junk that won't sell so I'd think there's not going to much restock on the jump packs.
I used these and the plastic Chaos Marines kit to make my WB AMs.
Thanks for posting that pic, I had considered those jump packs but I worried they'd be too bulky. Those actually look great.

Honestly, the biggest two things that would change the look are the heads and the jump packs themselves. Weapons are pretty generic - bear in mind that assault marines in 30k have chainswords OR combat blades, so you don't have to find chainsword arms. MkIV heads are readily available on eBay from the BaC box, or maybe you could order a set of Raven Guard HH heads from FW. If you really want to be Raven Guard then maybe MkVI from bits sites or FW, but I think they're gonna be harder to find. Lots of companies make alternate jump packs - Maxmini have four variants: http://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/torsos-and-arms/Bronze-Pattern-Jump-Packs http://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/torsos-and-arms/iron-pattern-jump-pack-bits http://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/torsos-and-arms/silver-wing-jump-packs-bits http://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/torsos-and-arms/jump-pack-bits If you want to go further than that, the next step is probably to make sure none of the torsos have Aquilas. Again, you could use bits sites for this (search for either CSM bodies or the plain body from the vehicle upgrade set, they're much cheaper). Or use bits sites - Anvil do some great torsos. http://anvilindustry.co.uk/Exo-Lords/Torsos-and-Power-Plants Out of all of that, the jump packs are the most expensive. Maybe just change the heads and any 'eagle' torsos, and leave the modern Jump Packs - that's what I'm doing with my Word Bearers assault squad.

I used the Maxmini jump packs for my Assault Marines. I did find some Sanguinary Guard jump packs for my Destroyers on eBay, just need to dig around a bit.

There is another European manufacturer of the single thruster packs. Can't remember the name, but I have 20 coming in the mail. Between those and the spare shoulder pads and heads from the BaC set, you should be fine using regular sm b o dies and arms

So considering the OP is american, 5 assault marines from forgeworld are about $47. If you're doubling up on kits to make assault marines, you're not really saving any money (although you will be DROWNING in extra bitz, which can be nice).
I have about 45-ish jump pack equipped 30k marines, and I basically cheaphammered all of them. Getting cheap sanguinary guard on ebay used to be a great source of mk iv jump packs, but sadly, now that they're good again, they're not cheap on the secondary market anymore. I was also lucky that I play blood angels, so my plastic 40k kits already have a lot of armor parts that are very 30k looking, so acquiring the jump packs was the hardest part.
Those maxmini.eu jumpacks look GREAT, so if you can get some, do it! I'm luck that there's a brick and mortar hobby store nearish me that I can buy them at without having to pay for expensive shipping.
Here's an example of a 40k marine I made using a maxmini jump pack:
So yeah, keep in mind, if you're spending more than $47 for five marines, you might as well go the forgeworld route. Cheap sanguinary guard, if you can find them, (some of the breastplates might work well too, raven guard like 'muscled' breastplates too, based on their forgeworld minis, and the feathery blood angel stuff works for them too, just paint it all black!), cheap maxmini jump packs, mk vi helmets off of ebay, and then whatever infantry kit to kitbash them. Don't feel bad if not all of your legs are 'jumping' legs, a few assault marines per squad with both feet on the ground look fine, trust me.

To build on that, the poses for Forgeworld's MK IV Assault Marines aren't that dynamic in the first place.
